Kerrang!

Kodama is one of 2016's most arresting releases.

Kodama exhibits all the dreamy and engrossing qualities one can expect from Alcest, while progressing their complex sound magnificently.

Pensive pioneers Alcest weave an immersive spell with new album.

God Is in the TV

Neige once said that he wanted Alcest to realise his visions of otherworldly fantasy and wonder. Much like in Miyazaki’s film, that’s not necessarily a particularly happy realm, but Kodama’s world nevertheless invites you to explore its dark recesses and binary nature.

It's true that Alcest don't really offer anything musically new on Kodama; Neige does that in his lyrics. But the return of more physically intense music is welcome.

Kodama is a definite step in the right direction … Alcest strive for balance once more here, and for the most part, they achieve it.

blackgaze will consume me like a candle holy fuuuuuuuuuck. wish it was more textured, it feels kinda one dimensional for a big chunk of the huge riffs, there is a lack of atmosphere that kinda throws me out the enjoyment the core songs could give me, still a really enjoyable take on the genre, fairly unique and pretty well paced, an enjoyable proyect that could have been so much more

The art style this album cover showcases resembles something you'd see in Mononoke (not the Ghibli movie).

Fantastic series, by the way. ↑

It's hard to describe a dream in any context, but to transport someone into that dream through sound alone is on a totally different level.
