"Dusk To Dawn" feels like, for better or worse, an old friend still stuck in the past. Lamp's latest album carries echoes of their brilliance, though it's clear some of the magic of their older projects is missing.

The tracks, as always sound like a cozy, familiar embrace - perfect for a contemplative evening as many of us have come to expect out of Lamp. Yet, there's a sense that they're treading well-worn paths, hesitant to venture just a bit further. Some songs feel like fleeting ... read more

Brief Review: Nearly 20 years into the game, Lamp still pushing out good ass shit. While not as amazing as some of their best material, “Dusk to Dawn” is still a damn solid listen front to back. The vibe is still immaculate as all hell, the vocals are still on point, and generally the production across this whole thing is just pure class. 100% worth a listen, this shit is fire!

The final Lamp project to be released, at the time of me writing this, is their 2023 output 一夜のペーソス (Dusk to Dawn). Even though Lamp has kept a pretty consistent portfolio of work, I would definitely argue this is their most out there and it still feels very grounded in the Shibuya-kei sound they pretty much define. As much as I wanted this to be another win in Lamp's books, I hate inform you all that this is easily one of the band's weaker outputs. This project for ... read more

For me, the latest Lamp album didn’t make any positive impression on me. While I still appreciate what is Lamp doing here, most of the time it feels more like a background music, rather than a complete listen. Of course, the classic Lamp vibe is still here, but for me it gets lost in this huge amount of songs.

It’s not bad, but I guess it’s just not my cup of tea this time

My fucking god 20 tracks? Damn lmao. Lamp is an artist I’ve been meaning to really check out tbh. I’ve heard some of their earlier material and I thought it was amazing, so expect some Lamp reviews soon ig lol. This album, isssssa pretty good. Definitely a bit bloated imo, but I thought I was gonna enjoy it and I did. The songwriting picked up quite a bit towards the end especially. Autumn letter is an absolutely fantastic acoustic/folky cut. I tended to gravitate to the ... read more

While this album doesn't exactly open new sonic doors for Lamp, who can complain about a (hefty) serving from one of Japan's most beloved contemporary music acts. You could argue that it may feel a bit bloated in size, but nonetheless "Dusk To Dawn" is an incredibly warm and easy listen that wants you (and leaves you) feeling at peace.

I think it was pretty good. This album seemed to me quite contradictory. On the first hand, I didn't like it at all, it seemed that Lamp had completely lost their ability to immerse in the mood and the location of their album, I was a little disappointed. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by how detailed this album is, and even for such a long run time, the record doesn't bother at all. Background listening was also a pleasure, I like that at different moments of the record I can ... read more

Dusk To Dawn is far away from Lamp’s best efforts but it’s still better than anything else in the genre.

I love that Lamp still got their magic after 20 years but relistening to this you understand that it's too bloated and sometimes it became just background music...there are some fantastic cut tho!

A very sweet, but tame, return from the Shibuya-kei legends.

Another Lamp release, another sweet, comforting & delicious pop album coated with a winsome jazzy overtone... that lasts way too long. I would've preferred a more concise experience, as the overtly lengthy tracklist is honestly this album's biggest drawback — don't get me wrong, I love a chill album, but this just blatantly doesn't have enough substance for over an hour of music. Luckily the enchanting sound somewhat makes up for that, it's a rather unchallenging formula and very hard ... read more

you can’t go into a lamp album and expect a lingua ignota, most of lamp’s albums are tame, they’re meant to ease you. this is their style (coming from someone who has yume as aoty). this is exactly what i expected so im grateful🤷✌️

Longest 74 minutes of my life

Lamp's latest album as of writing is not even that bad, but holy bloated, this did not need to be 1 hour and 14 minutes long, especially for a group like Lamp, an album longer than 40 minutes is very uncommon. And I think that's for the better, because I think this album is genuinely their worst. Very uninteresting instruments, I've heard all of it by now, yet they barely change anything much. A lot of songs here feel empty and are basically just ... read more

Doing homework with Lamp hits different.

I fully understand the people who aren't into this project as much as Lamp's previous outings, like "For Lovers", as there isn't much of that charming playfulness present in these tracks compared to then. But man, I feel like this came out at the right time for me.

I had a really pleasant time with this album. It's hard to believe that they still haven't lost their touch 20 years after their debut.

edit: (95 --> 98 --> 100) gave a few relistens, no problems with it at all

dusk to dawn is so fucking good dawg holy shit

the dusk part of the album (tracks 1-10) are so good the standouts are the last dance (2nd half of the song is just so good)
august calendar's drums is just mesmerizing, late night train's transition into her watch (like the album in 2018???) is so abrupt

the dawn part of the album (11-20) starts off so strong with autumn letter the demo on yt pales in comparison ... read more

Def some songs are forgettable but I mean come on the magic of their music is still present. Some people are saying it's not as good as their older works, I could understand that on a level of streaming the discography all at once, but when you think about how Lamp is 20 years into their career, the album feels like it has matured with them while playing with some of the same youthful feel to songs like The Last Dance. Overall, hit or miss for some, but I really loved this one.

2 Decades into the trio’s career lamp is consistent as all hell continuing to put out beautiful tracks while also pushing their level even this late into their careers! This album is a bit of a titian at 1 hour & 14 minutes with 20 tracks but don’t be mistaken, nearly every track here is quality. Especially in the 2nd half surprisingly. Just as I thought the album was winding down we got back to back standout tracks like Winters Day, Moonride, & Autum weather. For me, this ... read more

¡Vaya que regreso de Lamp! Después de 5 años de silencio, vuelven con un disco de 20 canciones: 1 hora y cuarto de Lamp que se disfruta y se contempla como un calmo atardecer en la playa.
