Aries - BELIEVE IN ME, WHO BELIEVES IN YOU
85

Aries is just one of those people that I want to see succeed. I've been listening since the very beginning of his professional music career and I just love to see the guy improve and get bigger. His debut album, Welcome Home is one of my favorite projects of last decade. A great mixture of sounds which can go from indie rock to hip hop, and to sometimes even folk or pop punk. All of these aspects still apply to this record as well. However, I think I got a lot less out of this album ... read more

Mitski - Be the Cowboy

I started listening to Mitski, and yeah, holy fuck, she's amazing. She's easily one of my favorite songwriters now. I listened to all 3 of her newest albums and here are my thoughts on them.

As much as I love Bury Me At Makeout Creek, I think Be The Cowboy is Mitski's best album. I don't feel as emotionally attached to it, but she perfected it here, kinda. A big criticism of hers is her short songwriting, and I agree with that, but I somehow think even that works on this album. It's very ... read more

I started listening to Mitski, and yeah, holy fuck, she's amazing. She's easily one of my favorite songwriters now. I listened to all 3 of her newest albums and here are my thoughts on them.

Puberty 2 has a few incredible songs. Like, half of this album is seriously pretty great. But then there's like the other 50% of songs that just didn't work all too well for me. I don't really know why, but I feel like Puberty 2 shows Mitski being stuck between the sound of her previous album and her next ... read more

I started listening to Mitski, and yeah, holy fuck, she's amazing. She's easily one of my favorite songwriters now. I listened to all 3 of her newest albums and here are my thoughts on them.

Bury Me At Makeout Creek is the first record of Mitski that I listened to and I instantly fell in love. I think this is why this album means so much to me. I don't think this is her best project, but I think it has some of my all time favorite songs of hers on it. Mitski presents this very angsty, very ... read more

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85–92

[ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW]
I severely underrated this thing the first few times I listened to it. Maybe it's just because I'm not that familiar with what makes IDM music so great yet, but this album took me a few lessons to entirely appreciate. This is just so intoxicating, hypnotizing and soothing. Like, one moment I'm having a certain melody or beat stuck in my head and dancing to the imaginary song that I'm remembering, but then I can also just listen to this while studying or just relaxing and ... read more

Slowdive - Just for a Day

I don't really know. I already wasn't the biggest fan of Souvlaki and this album just kinda confirmed to me that, yes, I like Slowdive, but they aren't really peak Shoegaze like some people think for me. However, the songs that I loved off of Souvlaki are some of my favorite Shoegaze songs ever, it's just that the rest wasn't all that interesting. Songs like Alison, Machine Gun, 40 Days or When The Sun Hits are super important to me though.

But let's get back to their debut, Just For A Day. A ... read more

The Smiths - Meat Is Murder

Fuck Morrissey. I just want to clarify that because otherwise you can't start discourse about The Smiths online.

I listened to this back in the summer nonstop for like a few weeks and I really like this album actually. The guitar work is amazing, I really love the drumming and yes, Morrissey's vocals and lyrics are quite good as well. It sounds just so very nice in the ears, everything on this album. Everything just sounds so soft and... Idk how to describe it. Is it an amazing cohesive piece ... read more

Radiohead - KID A MNESIA

(Review of just the third disc/the new content)

This was unexpected. The singles prior to the release made me think it's gonna be a disc of new, unreleased music by Radiohead from that time. Kind of like whatever they did with Ok Computer OKNOTOK2017, which had an INCREDIBLE third disc filled with new songs. But instead, we got like 2 or 3 original and new songs, and the rest are weird mashups and manipulations of songs from Kid A and Amnesiac. And I think I actually really liked it. I didn't ... read more

Infinity Frequencies - Between two worlds

I watched Pad Chennington's video on the album, and he really made it seem a lot better than it actually is. I think the concept is pretty great as it is, but it doesn't really achieve anything past the conceptual stage. The songs don't sound interesting, it's boring (but in the bad way for ambient music) and there isn't really much to explore. I didn't mind while I listened to it, I love the concept and I still had a positive experience, that is why I give this a positive rating, It just ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - My Back Is Killing Me Baby

I personally think that this album is a much less special release in Will's discography than a lot of other work he has put out. I think that his lyrics are really great for the most part here, and the songwriting itself is also not bad at all, it's just that this album kind of has all the great aspects about Will's music, but just to a much lesser extent. Lyrics are great but not amazing, the melodies are catchy but nothing that'll necessarily be stuck for days in your head, the emotional ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Making a Door Less Open

Although overhated, Making a Door Less open is definitely not one of Car Seat Headrest's better releases. It is definitely a bit more experimental and electronic, and I like that sound, but the album overall leans a bit too much into the indietronica side of things, and sadly, Will Toledo hasn't really perfected that side yet. I think if they go further into this direction, maybe keep a bit of the lo-fi and rock aesthetic, they could make a record down that line that is one the same level as ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)

I have been loving and listening to this album for a while now (had originally rated as 97), but especially for the past 2 or 3 months I have fallen in love with this album as a whole and not just individual tracks. Especially in a phase that started at the beginning of July and ended in like the last week of July, where I listened to it at least like once a day. It almost became unhealthy. But there was a slight thing that I changed in the tracklisting: I switched Beach Life-In-Death with the ... read more

Sonic Youth - Goo

[Original Review Below]
UPDATED REVIEW 81---->93:

I really don't think an album has grown on me THIS much in a long while. Don't get me wrong, I still liked Goo when I first listened to it, but even though I relistened and relistened over and over again, I couldn't really feel myself getting into Sonic Youth ESPECIALLY on this album (considering i had already listened to Daydream Nation which I also liked but couldn't entirely get into either). When I went to the mall yesterday though, I ... read more

Kanye West - Donda
92

Imma leave my initial listening party reactions under this, but first, here is my first listen review to Donda:
Donda is a MASSIVE album. I feel extremely exhausted after my first listen, and I think this will also be the only time that I actually listen to it in one sitting. Yeah, I think 4 or 5 tracks could have been cut, but-most songs on the album are too good to be cut or too essential to leave out. I think it has the same problems that some of his other long albums have. The Life of Pablo ... read more

Kanye West - JESUS IS KING

[Revisiting Kanye Albums]

At the point of writing this right now, the Donda listening event just started, so I'll do this quickly; I loved this album when it came out, and I personally don't hate it now either. All I can say is, that the new one is even better. Yes, it's a mess, and a few tracks don't hit, but I don't know what it is, but this album has such a distinct tone that I really love, and I'm not even Christian. But he created a sound I had never heard before on this thing. And some ... read more

Kanye West - ye

[Revisiting Kanye Albums]

This is really fucking good. I don't care what others think. Very vulnerable, very emotional and catchy. Great production. Short, maybe a bit thematically inconsistent, but otherwise, just amazing. I actually own this on vinyl. Great features and tracks like Ghost Town and Violent Crimes are some of my favorite songs ever. It's not as influential or grand but I love it personally so much.

Favorites: Wouldn't Leave, No Mistakes, Ghost Town, Violent Crimes

[Revisiting Kanye Albums]

This is one of the biggest messes in terms of contrast in quality in style, but I think how this album was rolled out was incredible, and it is super catchy, mixing the trap aesthetic with some oldschool soul samples etc. I think this is kind of like a longer, maybe a bit too long, version of Yeezus, but being a bit more fun and less dark. Ultralight Beam is literally in my favorite 10 tracks of all time, not just Ye but every artist and genre. So for that reason ... read more

Kanye West - Yeezus

[Revisiting Kanye Albums]

Yeezus might be my favorite Kanye album. I'm not kidding. Its crazy, almost manic, experimental, catchy but also features important subject matter while perfecting Kanye's signature funny writing without actually loosing any quality (at least to me), because it is just so careless. He Kanye doesn't care what you think about this album. It's Ye at his wildest, he's so out there, so raw but still flawlessly produced. It has so many great moments of these experimental ... read more

[Revisiting Kanye Albums I didn't actively listen to]

I actually listened to this one much more than a lot of Kanye's other albums that I recently revisited, but I didn't really listen to this album with my complete attention and never really looked deeper into a few things, but here we are. And to be honest, yes, this has some all-time best Kanye tracks, beats and verses, and I understand why this is his most beloved album, especially with the context behind it. But damn, some of the mixes ... read more

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak

[Revisiting Kanye Albums I didn't actively listen to]

I don't think we need to talk about the influence. Probably the most important moment in Hip Hop of the 21st Century. Also, stylistically, it is one of the most distinct of Kanye's career. Personally, it is probably one of my least favorite Kanye Records though. It seems much more sparse than a lot of his other work, the features are really weak on this record (except for Cudi) and while I personally love it when Kanye tells personal and ... read more
