Dispirited Spirits - Fragments of a Dying Star
86

Woah, I just realized that I am essentially the same age as Rodrigo and I also want to make music but I am too f-ing lazy to even learn just the guitar and I realized that I have achieved nothing while this kid is making waves with some space indie rock lol.

But yeah, to senselessly compare it; it's like Julian Casablancas of The Strokes singing Will Toledo/CSH lyrics if they were about space with psychedelic pop punk-influenced Pink Floyd instrumentation with some dream pop or shoegaze ... read more

Duster - Stratosphere
92

A fantastic, slow, soothing and atmospheric lofi rock album that is a perfect example for the phrase "Easy on the ears, heavy on the heart."

While yes, there are harsher passages in Stratosphere, Duster brings the dreamy sound to the table that makes the occasional louder and heavier sound of the album feel like a little detour in a gloomy, sad but beautiful dream. I don't think this is the most focused or sharp album ever made, and I feel like there is room for improvement on some ... read more

Kamasi Washington - The Epic
84

The title really is fitting for this one.
Extremely long and exhausting, but also incredibly powerful and well crafted.
I significantly liked the second half or 3rd third of this album more than the other parts though. It gets better and better, and I think the final hour of this is masterful. But the beginning was not that impressive which weighs this album down. I still liked it a lot though.

The Alchemist - This Thing Of Ours
81

Just a really short but really strong EP.
It isn't incredibly focused, nobody either on the beats or on the mic did their best work ever or anything, but this was just strong. Not one track out of the 4 was bad, I especially loved Earl and Sideshow's appearances and I thought (although it isn't focused), it did have a somewhat dreamy or hazy feel to it.

It is really hard to pick favorites because all songs are almost equally great songs, but if I gotta pick, then;

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END!
80

Very well made, well composed and interesting record. It's obviously not as great as GY!BE's earlier stuff, but I do think there is a whole lot to enjoy here. Stylistically incredibly cohesive and thought-provoking. It just sounds like a very elegant, smooth and connected piece of Post Rock and overall definitely one of their best in the past few years. I do wish it went a bit more out there though, as well as I wanted some more intriguing stuff conceptually.

Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
100

(A lot of people do perfect score purges, where they downrate albums they gave a 100/100 to, but what I'm doing right now is the reverse of that, imma be more charitable and give albums 100/100 that I originally didn't believe to be perfect.)

Probably my second favorite Dylan album, and my third 100/100 rating for him during this reevaluation. Yes, this is in a completely different pocket than stuff like Highway 61 or Blonde on Blonde, but I would lie if I said I didn't always get emotional ... read more

Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde

(A lot of people do perfect score purges, where they downrate albums they gave a 100/100 to, but what I'm doing right now is the reverse of that, imma be more charitable and give albums 100/100 that I originally didn't believe to be perfect.)

My relationship with this album has been so weird. At first, I was a little disappointed how this album paled in comparison to my first Dylan album Highway 61 Revisited, as this album is undeniably less focused and more goofy than that masterpiece of an ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
100

[Previous Review Below] 97--->100

It was kind of inevitable, but yeah, this album is a ten. After going through a lot of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's discography this album still really stands out from all of them. In terms of individual movements and composition, this album isn't like miles above anything else they've ever done, but Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven is something greater than a sum of its parts. Not just is this one of the few albums of theirs where it really ... read more

my bloody valentine - loveless
100

After many months of listening to this nonstop, I think I can safely say that this is a masterpiece and one of my favorite albums ever...which is something I never expected to say after my first listen of Loveless. For me, every My Bloody Valentine record takes many listens to finally click, but when it does, it really does resonate with you so much. At first I kinda thought the walls of guitar noise were just an aesthetic choice, but there is so much incredibly songwriting in the MBV ... read more

BROCKHAMPTON - ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE
79

Brockhamptons follow-up to the pretty fantastic (in my opinion) Ginger, doesn't have their best songs but it is certainly a pretty great collection of tracks. Sadly, the album continually grows more and more into a confusing mess. Not necessarily on a sonic or songwriting mess, but more a pretty weirdly contrasting mess tonally. Hear me out:

The album starts off with Buzzcut, which is a great psychedelic banger, then Chain On is just a really solid Hip Hop Track, Count on Me is just a great ... read more

Can - Tago Mago
95

First half is some incredibly funky and enjoyable Kraut- and Psychedelic Rock while still being a little experimental and freaky, but then the second half hits you right in the face and says:

"STOP JAMMIN' OUT! WE SAYING *ABLALBALBALBAALBBLBLABLALBALLAKAHAHAKAHAHAKLA*, *UUUHHMMM-OOOOHMMM,AUUUMMMGH* and *Halalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalaluwahalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalaluwah*!"

I see some people on here saying the first half is ... read more

Black Country, New Road - For the first time
94

An album that might be seen as a milestone in the future, or at least as a big "cult classic".
With a fantastic mix out of Post Punk, Post Rock and Experimental, "Black Country, New Road" releases an album that impressed me more than a lot of other works in the genres rock or punk nowadays, to the point where I literally can't wait to see what they are going to do next. I love the straightforward poetry by Wood and the incredible music backing his spoken vocals up...or is he ... read more

The Velvet Underground & Nico - The Velvet Underground & Nico
93

[EDIT]:
The older I get, the more I fall in love with The Velvet Underground and the more I appreciate this album. The first time I heard it, I loved it but kind of shrugged it off as being more of an experiment that was influential rather than a great album in and of itself, but it truly is. I think it has a lot to say thematically, it is undeniably cool in stylistic choices and experimentation and the energy is so unique on this. Groundbreaking stuff. It never ceases to be interesting. Nirvana - In Utero
98

In Utero is a confession of Kurt Cobain's personality and psyche. If their debut Bleach is a great raw Punk/Grunge/Metal record and Nevermind a softer, more accessible but also incredibly catchy and iconic record, then In Utero is a culmination out of both of these albums, but with improvements on every front, therefore genuinely making this THEIR masterpiece.

A lot more personal, varied, experimental and emotionally heavy; their final album brings what the band can do best and a lot more. ... read more

There we have it!
One of the most iconic albums ever!
And it was.... good!
Pretty good!
Although it might not always be my cup of tea, Nirvana's Nevermind is easily one of the best Rock or Punk albums of the 90s. Standout is Kurt Cobain here obviously, and it feels like, after his already pretty good Debut Bleach, he finally found his sound and the band did as well. Is it a perfect record?

You know what? in a way you could say so! It is pretty much perfect "mainstream Grunge" if ... read more

Nirvana - Bleach
84

I'm trying to get a bit into Nirvana, so I thought I should start with their debut, and yeah, it's pretty good Grunge. The songwriting, instrumentation and singing is nothing that really stood out to me, it was all good but nothing that blew me away, you know? It is all just pretty good. I obviously haven't heard a lot of Nirvana (yet) but it already feels like something that has potential but at this point still is kind of underdeveloped, derivative and ordinary. Like they haven't made this ... read more

Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure?
79

What's Your Pleasure? is a pretty great Disco/Dance Pop album. There is a lot of great songwriting and some good production as well. I also like Jessie a lot as a vocalist. Sadly, the album at parts gets almost too smooth, to the point where it feels a bit shallow or boring. It is still great, especially if you hear any of the songs on their own, but as an album it didn't work too well for me because I just became really tired of the same instrumentation all over again. I still overall went out ... read more

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION
86

It's not perfect, it gets a bit repetitive and stale at parts (specifically a few songs in the middle and end), especially structurally. But the best songs on here are perfect Pop songs. Love a lot of the production, singing and lyrics on this album. Carly has such a great personality and it shines in these songs. I am actually kinda happy that I didn't write this off instantly.

Best Songs: Run Away with Me, E•MO•TION, Gimme Love, Your Type, Let's Get Lost

Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
85

umm alrighty

Girl With Basket of Fruit has is extremely unsettling and disturbing, no doubt about it, especially when you consider the lyrics and the subject matter but...yeah.

I feel like it has some phenomenal moments, especially when it goes into these slower... idk what to call it... orchestral pieces or something?

But at some parts it just feels wrong. But Maybe thats the point. This was definitely an interesting listen for sure.

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
98

Okay, f*** my original review. This album is fantastic. I always loved it, but this time, it finally took my heart over. The lyrics (maybe) are the most relatable and heartfelt I have ever heard from Thom. This is so personal yet universally understandable. The beautiful strings and soundscapes....aaah. Such an incredible piece of art. On even more listens, it might change, but right now, it's my third favorite Radiohead album. I love almost every song equally, they are so beautiful.
