I totally get why this album is one of the least beloved things Radiohead as ever put out; I mean, it is mostly repetition, electronics and subtle progressions, but that's exactly I have have fallen even more in love with it now, years later. It took me a while, but this is easily Radiohead's most interesting album in terms of structure, instrumental palette and concept. The only thing it lacks is really that climactic emotion and immediate pay-off that their other albums offer, but once you ... read more
If this concert would have been one year later, everybody would have freaked out about them playing Ocean Man, you know it!
This was my first introduction to Ween (with the exception of the masterpiece that is "Ocean Man"), and well; this is one hell of a way to make a first impression. Now I just wanna listen to more Ween :)
This concert captures some great energy, a lot of awesome guitar solos by Dean Ween, fantastic drumming by Claude Coleman and some really great singing and ... read more
I've been interested in LCD Soundsystem for a while, but always was "repulsed" by the "dance" label. But thank god this album is more punk, with a lot of danceable grooves. THIS ALBUM IS SPECTACULAR. It's honest, explosive and for the love of god, it makes you want to move your body so bad. The best thing in my opinion here was James Murphy's voice. This was the thing that REALLY PULLED ME. He isn't a perfect vocalist, but you can clearly hear the passion in his singing and ... read more
There are albums that I would call poetic.
There are albums that I would call ethereal.
There are albums that I would call a masterpiece
There are albums that I would call milestones
Joy Division's Closer is all of the above, but it does one thing that I maybe never heard from an album ever in that capacity. Closer is an album that is philosophical. Through the bleak lens of Ian Curtis' eyes, we get his dark and hopeless philosophical opinions conveyed with his lyrics that are placed on top of ... read more
Turn on the Bright Lights is definitely very heavy lyrically and somehow
sounds very ethereal, even though it doesn't necessarily have big and
complex compositions. The poetic, but nowhere near beautiful lyrics
capture the themes of the album pretty well. It is cryptic but somehow
still really, really honest. I don't have a lot to say, just a great collection
of songs. Nothing groundbreaking; nothing that I really have an issue with.
My dive into Post Punk surprised me with this rather "normal album."
Sure, it ain't the most normal thing I ever heard but it sure as hell was
a lot more accessible than Joy Division or Talking Heads. I don't really
know why this is so acclaimed as being so artsy and "post", because
it kinda sounded like a lot of other stuff that could have been in the
mainstream. But maybe these guys started it (?)
But my confusion of that doesn't take away from my really big enjoy-
ment ... read more
I wanna get into Post Punk and this is obviously one of the most important record.
I love its very moody, atmospheric and ambient influences in these very bleak and
dark songs. Ian Curtis (May he rest in piece) brings some heartbreaking poetry to
display here. The guitars on this are insane as well, maybe my favorite aspect of
the entire record. The only things that bugged me were the lack of structure in a
lot of these tracks, and Ian's almost deadpan delivery at parts. I am not the ... read more
Except for the appearances of Juice WRLD and Kid Cudi, nothing other than boring psychedelic trap.
So yeah, best tracks No Bystanders and Stop Trying To Be God.
Who would have thought that Travis Scott was actually interesting and making awesome music at one point?
Why am I not surprised that Ride is a David Lynch fan?
This might just be Death Grips' best album.
In comparison to this, Exmilitary and The Money Store sounds like normal Hip Hop.
Holy Hell.
I will give it 98, same rating as The Money Store, for now but after multiple listens it might change.
This is easily one of the weirdest, craziest albums of all time. From concept to instrumentals.
WHAT ON EARTH. THIS IS SO AWESOME. AH AH AH AH HAHAHA BIATCH.
Favorites are pretty much all the songs ... read more
This is my second exposure to Swans after getting introduced to them in 2019 with their record (which I probably like just as much) leaving meaning.
'To Be Kind' is one of the most eclectic and grand rock works I have ever heard. I do have to say that this type of rock is not necessarily my thing, but I still got a lot of technical appreciation out of it, together with, although a bit simple and repetitive, great poetic lyrics. YES. It is too long. Way too long and way too repetitive. But I ... read more
Jake's lyricism and songwriting is pretty great on this, although I gotta say that his weird spoken word passages aren't my thing. Slaughter Beach, Dog's Birdie is one of my favorite albums of all time and I like that they go into a different direction with this album, more of a wintery feel rather than this late-summer vibe that Birdie gave off. He is definitely a lot more poetic with each release but with that, it looses a bit of what I loved so much about Birdie: the relatability. Sure, I ... read more
Connor Oberst brings a great collection of emotionally resonant and beautifully poetic songs. At first I wasn't sure if I loved it, but right when the 4th track, Lua, starts, the album gets incredible.
EDIT: Over the years, I've come to realize that this album is really not THAT good, but Lua, First Day of my Life and Poison Oak are 3 of the greatest tracks of the 2000s, exceptionally good songs. The rest is just sort of okay/good to me.
Dylan's return is probably the best lyrical work this year. And the lyrics are what matters the most here. He writes some good tunes on here but his work on the words that he says is magnificent. I am a new Dylan fan, and I have only heard 2 or 3 Albums of his but it was still an incredibly touching listen, especially in the more personal songs. And its only gonna get better with time and with more experiences with Dylan I will have.
"christmas song" is an incredibly emotional opener, making Christmas songs sound the saddest they ever have. The beautiful repetitiveness of "the reaper" with its soothing guitar loop makes it a perfect follow up to that instrumental opener. "billy" and "haley" both tell a nostalgic childhood story of alicks about a childhood/adolescence friend, beautiful simple yet emotional storytelling, as well as "these were the days" which brings sad ... read more
Beautiful pieces. The few vocal performances are fantastic and the finisher is definitely the best classical/ambient track I've heard this year. And also, the best modern classical album of the year. What a great album! I already loved Ólafur Arnalds' "...And They Have Escaped the Weight of Darkness" so much and this has a lot of the same fantastic elements about it.
Damn I really love this. Not only is this one of the best album covers I've ever seen, but this also has some of the most emotionally impactful pieces I've ever heard. A few bits in between are kinda lame but the incredible ones are seriously some of the best classical and ambient music I have ever heard.
Very great lyricism, interesting and unique production, some pretty great vocals...
but, for how much it is "inventive" or "progressive", its kinda boring, repetitive and
not that innovative in the first place.
I still enjoyed it a lot and I think it deserves to have a high rating but cmon...10/10?
I love it when she is more aggressive and emotional on here, and when the production
goes more into a rock feel I really enjoy it but half of the songs on here are "just ... read more
oh geez, im so euphoric about this album.
This album might contain my favorite vocals of all time.
Seriously. Maybe not the best vocals that I have ever
heard technically but what Julian does on this album
with his voice works pure wonders. So exciting to listen to.
And I think this might be my favorite Strokes record.
The only one I listened to yet is Is This It, and I love that
record with my very heart but this is probably technically
better and it has so much more variety. Is This It ... read more
Wind on Water and Evening Star are INCREDIBLE. The rest is just so boring. Obviously there is always "a sense of boring" in ambient works but what I saw here and in Music For Airports by Eno is that Brian Eno's shit is cool, but just a bit uneventful to really hit me. Love Fripps guitar on here tho.
69/100 for the year that Fripp made one of the best albums of all time.
