Chance the Rapper - Tree

60->50 | Yea even a 60 feels too high

I am so indifferent, I'm not a big fan of the pop direction here. Something about Chances vocal inflections on the chorus creates a discordant listening experience. Smino and Lil Wayne don't add much to the song either in my opinion. Honestly I'd make the argument that I'm not a fan of any of the vocal performances on this single, it feels all over the place. I mean I'm sure as an idea it seems pretty great but seeing the ... read more

Saba - CARE FOR ME

As solid of a project as it is.. I think "From the Private Collection" LP takes things a step farther.

Miley Cyrus - Something Beautiful
80

Damn near a 9 in my opinion, however there are some more formulaic tracks that hold back its flourishing potential as an overall LP. Miley truly has made her mark as an underrated pop artist with a lot to offer after this project. Where do I start between the overwhelmingly exceptional production or vibrant vocals that echo throughout.

So many different paths that I can't even keep up with what genre direction she's taking yet it doesn't throw the album off its tracks. ... read more

Lorde - Virgin
70

Great to see Lorde really pulling off a strong return with an electronic synth pop twist. Pure emotion is clearly placed into this project with the intent of giving insight to what her corrosive relationship with men has been like. Things are lightly touched in production but heavy handed in writing. I cant get enough of how explosive man of the year manages to be while Lorde pours her heart and soul into the vocal performance. In the grand scheme of everything some tracks leave less of a mark ... read more

Beach Bunny - Tunnel Vision

Honestly the first beach bunny album I've thoroughly enjoyed. They've always been a very simplistic pop rock band with bubbly atmosphere. No need to dig deep when listening to Beach Bunny, I do like the surface level aspect of their music because it's a rejuvenating listen when I just wanna relax and enjoy an easy listen after a long day. However, you shouldn't let the cutesy feeling distract you from the more personal topics they touch on.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Phantom Island

Never been disappointed by King Gizzard and never will be. Some very underrated tracks here that get me up and grooving. Love the instrumental work, especially from the guitar. Super consistent in orchestration, some pretty weak moments that don't hold up the energy but I'm happy with the takeaway and will always appreciate the versatility King Gizz offers.

Infinity Knives - A City Drowned in God's Black Tears

Plenty of bold statements being made throughout this LP which gives it this unapologetic edge that I respect. Pushing along a lot of poetic lyricism with some smooth instrumental choices to tie it all together. Very raw, very remorseless, and sometimes precarious. Some remarks I don't really align with but I respect the idea behind this project.

Lorien Testard - Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (Original Soundtrack)
NR

One of the greatest ost's over one of the greatest games of all time. I genuinely suggest everyone to play this masterpiece. The storyline mixed with this elegant soundtrack made me cry again and again.

Lil Tecca - DOPAMINE
40

Digging into pockets already seen before with no new twists or anything interesting really.. Tecca has a decent flow and a few moments of satisfying production but the guy is tasteless in writing. It's like listening to a blank slate sometimes, casual fun moments here and there like on Dark Thoughts being his most entertaining with west coast inspiration and plausible lyrics overall. Owa Owa is also one of the most overrated tracks here. The sample usage is pretty boring and underwhelming ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter VI

Carti dropped a better project than Wayne? What a timeline...

It is excruciatingly angering to see someone as highly regarded as Lil Wayne tarnish his legacy not only by getting too comfortable with experimentation but also by pandering to the mainstream radio with pop adjacent garble on what's labeled as a HIP HOP PROJECT! This is like listening to Pink Tape all over again, too many directions throughout the track list that it just feels like an uncoordinated mess. Baiting us in with ... read more

James Blake - The Colour in Anything

Love me in whatever wayyyyyy 🤧

The voice of an angel, I can't get enough. James Blake has me in a chokehold with these layered and strenuous vocals, I pray he fights off whatever heartbreak has him digging this deep in his bag. James Blake just feels like a prominent artist that one can always return to during hard times, this man has felt true pain.

Tom MacDonald & Adam Calhoun - The Brave II

Bro I'm cryingggg😭😭, I ain't ever seen someone consistently score THIS LOW in my life. HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO SUCK THIS BAD THIS OFTEN!?

Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes

IDGAF HOW HIGHLY RATED THIS IS, IT NEEDS ALL THE APPRECIATION IN THE WORLD! May not be game changing but you couldn't name me a single weak performance on this LP. Black Thought just continues to solidify his spot in my top 3. Danger mouse is a name I will be looking into after this, great production all around.

PlaqueBoyMax - Five Forever

Either I've set my standards for music too high or I'm getting old (19 btw). I like my fair share of mumble rap but this is painfully lifeless and unoriginal. I didn't have high expectations for Max but that didn't stop me from losing interest quickly. I won't give this a zero because it isn't the worst thing ever, I can see certain audiences liking it but this just doesn't strike me as anything interesting. Even a 50 feels to high for this project, I can hear ... read more

Aminé - 13 Months of Sunshine

I swear I started falling asleep halfway through, maybe I'll give it more credit when it proves to be anything more than boring. It's so obvious he wanted to make a SUMMER album but ended up creating bedtime stories instead. Literally not much to discuss.

"Cuz the writing is unbearably horrendous lmao. How could you possibly take her seriously? She tries so hard to create a serious atmosphere with thought provoking undertones but ends up writing some seriously goofy shit. I can drop multiple lines from almost every song that are super cringe."

"@Bandia If I don't mention a song sometimes it may mean that I don't really feel much for it therefore I don't have anything to really speak on but I can understand where you're coming from. I see the appeal, both picnic in paris and stargazing have great vocal performances I don't mind plus the atmosphere is very soothing. However they just don't stand out too much compared to the higher highs he's had on the album in my opinion but that's personal taste."
