Rose in Harlem clears everything by a loooong shot. In summary, Beautiful vocal performances from Teyana but not enough interesting content within the tracks.
A lil overhyped, I think Thug has strong footing but loses balance after a minute in with his weak verse feeling pretty unbalanced in flow, and uninteresting writing with mediocre delivery. Future comes in and honestly does some saving on a clean beat switch that only enhances his performance. The track as a whole is pretty alright, the hook felt a bit premature at the end and just felt overdone. Future carried, that's pretty much it. Also Thugs autotune feels off key sometimes and ... read more
Basic but has its moments. The first few tracks keep things afloat until the repetition of hell comes to play. Mozzy isn't exactly interesting but songs like Press Play and Death Before Dishonor flow well and show Mozzy in his zone with strong energy and thumping 808s. Honestly not much to speak on considering how one dimensional and surface level it is as a project. Mozzy is one of those turn your brain off and feel the vibes type of rappers. Can't say I'd return really but ... read more
This is probably gonna be my aoty for a while..
Ashanti Mutinta aka Backxwash is a Zambian Canadian Artist with a lot to get off her chest with this new LP. Throughout this entire product Backxwash delivers eye opening performances over rock adjacent production, making enough noise to keep our attention while also giving every line she spits heavy weight. This is more than an alt hip hop product, it's a wake up call, a political movement, and a fight against oppositions.
By no means are ... read more
Underrated to the highest degree! Why isn't this appreciated more?
Serpentwithfeet has a lot to offer in his art style, kind of reminding me of Moses Sumney in certain aspects. Off rip Whisper is a great opening sentiment with it's eerie yet soothing vocals being layered over pretty sounds that come from what sounds like a woodwind instrument of sorts, then slowly shaping into something more with stacked vocal harmonies and subtle drums. Before you know it the intense build up has me on the edge just waiting to be relieved of all this pent up dopamine. ... read more
Why has it taken me so long to give this praise.
It's about time I give Travis his flowers for shaking up the trap game. Utilizing his Kanye/Cudi influences then proceeding to mold it into this psychedelic eargasm of a record which happens to be one of the coolest things to happen to modern age rap. 2015 wasn't prepared for what Travis had to offer from versatile trap production (with help of Mike Dean) to his grasping autotuned voice. I used to stick with the notion that this album ... read more
JUSTIN! YOU DON'T MISS!
Bon Iver making their return in 2025 is quite a surprise. Justin Vernon (the lead singer) has always been appealing vocally, the man has this intriguing way of singing that just completely allures me. There's a weird and unexplainable simplicity in his music yet it feels so full of magic and wonder every album. Some of the best instrumentals that feel so freeing, pretty much defining folk.
Now why did I only give it a 7? That comes down to how much I felt ... read more
It's pretty fun. Definitely a weak point in DOOM's discography, not too much to look into here. Lots of underwhelming performances with some moments of comedy and solid verses here or there.
A slight improvement to Saturation I, grasping even more of a connection with its listeners. The instrumentals on this are commendable between the synths and chord progressions. Completely in love with the sound here and the mixing (while being perfectly fine on Sat I) is even better here. Brockhampton go two for two in the Saturation series so far.
For my 400th review I'm gonna have to give one of my favorite bands a harsh review :(
Radiohead is widely loved for their legendary discography thanks to Thom Yorke and the gang. You have critically acclaimed OK Computer with its outstanding spacious atmosphere, Kid A with its genre-bending prowess, and In Rainbows being such an energetic, power-driven listen. These 3 LPs alone give us all we need from the group, but at the end of the day we have to acknowledge the rest of the ... read more
BRO STOP PUTTING PARTY ON SONGS IT'S PISSING ME OFF! HE CAN'T WRITE! DAMN! LITERALLY ANY OTHER CANADIAN WILL DO!
Overall pretty good, the most hungry Drake's ever sounded. Dude has just gotta work on his track pacing and sometimes his corny lines here and there. I'm starting to think either his ghost writers need ghost writing or Drake just has impulse issues with certain bars. Sometimes things sound better in our head. Good project, not as consistent in the second half but ... read more
Kokoroko is undoubtedly helping the Jazz genre thrive.
Hailing from London is Kokoroko, a septet jazz fusion group that draws heavily from afrobeats. Seven members that unite and create cultural pieces with a widely reachable sound that feels invigorating and full of life. The touch they have in the Jazz fusion world is a notable kind which keeps the genre fresh and leaves a good impression for casual listeners who wanna get into the genre. Now, do I think they have a lot of room to improve ... read more
Knock Knock, whos there? THE CAT!
Loving this Smog record, super simplistic on the surface but is mainly driven by its emotion and heart put into the writing. While feeling bleak in tone, Smog has that raw edge that catches my attention and keeps me running through my thoughts with each track. The outro may be the ONLY time I didn't find myself invested.
This is not talked about nearly enough. Iglooghost brings about so much energy and sets up endless twists and turns to keep you thrilled. The LP feels as if it was creatively freestyled and goes with the flow. Not a lot to break down but it's an addicting in your face listen that wastes no time getting active.
