Don't know much about this band but I somehow came across it and even though it's not the most mind blowing metalcore track you'll hear, it's just hard as fuck

#497: Various Artists - The Indestructible Beat of Soweto
Some of the tracks on this are the happiest sounding stuff ever. Instantly puts me in a great mood and is so insanely catchy.
Some tracks get a little stale at times and don't really go anywhere and the first half is definitely better than the second half but there's still some high points throughout the second half, but man that first half is undefeated.
I'm ... read more

#498: Suicide - Suicide
This is the first album so far I had actually heard beforehand doing this list and I really enjoyed it then but man I really love this record. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea and "Girl" and "Frankie Teardrop" can be a little off putting for some people but I just love the sound of this record, and how they tackle each theme on this.
"Girl" does make me feel a ... read more
I love the different dynamics on this lyrically, and they're pushing boundaries instrumentally whilst still being goated as fuck
Another great posthumous record from Mac, but damn it really makes you think just how talented he was. He was a great musician and had so much more to offer.
I can only say so much about the album, it's great on all fronts but especially from a production standpoint. Some of the lyrics on this though are especially quite hard to listen to, it shows he was really hurting and struggling, and it just seemed like it was fate for him to pass.
It's so unfortunate but his music has been ... read more

#499: Rufus & Chaka Khan - Ask Rufus
A very solid Funk/Soul record from the late 70s. Has a sensual nighttime feel to it with so many catchy, danceable tracks throughout which is backed up by great performances all across the whole group.
I can feel the songwriting a little stale at certain stages but not enough to put me off an entire song or anything.
Also I recognized the song "Hollywood" straight away as J. Cole ... read more
Probably my least favourite of the 3 singles, but I still enjoy it nevertheless.
I must say the other 2 singles have grown on me loads, can't wait for this new record.
Holy shit what a way to start off the year...
FKA Twigs continues to be one of the best artists in the world right now with what feels like her magnum opus, Eusexua is incredible on all fronts and shows FKA Twigs at her most personal and upfront with her struggles, but this brings out her best in my opinion.
The production hits you hard in the chest and has the hairs stand on the back of your neck. Her vocal deliveries are obviously beautiful yet chilling in some ways.
I literally ... read more

#500: Arcade Fire - Funeral
I mean wow what an incredible album. I've always known about Arcade Fire and how loved they are as a band but especially their debut (insane to me how this could be your debut album and be this good) but I had never given it a spin surprisingly enough.
Immediately when I first heard this record it just made me think that Black Country, New Road are very obviously influenced by these. The influences ... read more
Perverts is an EP (somehow not an album) that obviously deals with themes of sexual exposure, pedophilia, death, personal problems (whilst not directly being linked with Ethel Cain) and many more lighthearted themes! An incredibly dark, uncomfortable and an anxiety ridden listen all round, Hayden has a successful switch up to a more drone like record. For a lot of Ethel Cain listeners, this is quite a different and tough listen and understandably so, but I was lucky in having listened to plenty ... read more
Have been visiting this album again recently which I've always loved but my god is it hard as fuck. Only slight criticism I'd have is maybe the production/song writing can kind of get predictable/repetitive at certain parts, but it doesn't take away from that record as a whole all that much.
It was nearly impossible to rate each song because of certain tracks being quite short but I tried my best. If you're just wanting a hard-hitting, rough and in your face metalcore ... read more
Catching up with some releases from this year, this being one of them.
Just a very solid hard hitting punk record that stays consistent in its energy and themes but I feel the songwriting gets slightly stale at certain parts throughout. Definitely worth listenting to though if you're a punk fan!
An alternative dance EP that I thoroughly enjoyed! I'm trying to get into more alt-dance because I know it's something I enjoy but I'm just trying to find more artists/albums in this realm that stand out to me. I've listened to the likes of Aphex Twin, Bicep, Matmos, Autechre, Baauer, Blanck Mass, Model/Actriz and MANY more but I would like to of course get more familiar with these artists and just other artists in general, so that's my mission for 2025. But I must say ... read more
A surprise album out of nowhere from Kendrick is welcome every day of the week, and this is different to his usual project as it's a very fun laid back record that he clearly had a lot of fun with!
And there's no real downside to the record, it stays pretty consistent throughout with some variety which is expected. Even "gnx" which a lot of people seem to dislike, I actually have a lot of fun with it.
"hey now" as of now would be my favourite. It's hard ... read more
EDIT: So listenting to the record again, I noticed that the tracklist is basically "banger, filler, banger, filler" like it stays like that for the entire record which I mean I can't say I was overly surprised by, I'm just glad there's some good tracks on here. Obviously banger is a tad bit exaggerated but you get the point I'm making. Album I'd say overall is okay, nothing special and it's very harmless in its songwriting. Like even if I like "Heavy is ... read more
There's still so many records that I've to catch up on, this being one of them. When I seen it was an album that dipped its toes into the genres of industrial/gothic/trip hop, I knew I had to give it a listen as there's so many incredible albums out there in that realm that I'm a huge fan of so this was a no brainer to me.
The journey Chelsea Wolfe takes you through this record is something special. The mood and tone of each vocal delivery, each instrumental and all the ... read more
On his most mature and personal record so far, Tyler proves he is easily by far and away one of the best artists in the world right now.
Incredibly consistent on all fronts whether it's production or lyricism.
We see Tyler as open as ever talking about the ideas of fatherhood and "taking your mask off", peeling back the layers to who he truly is as a person in amongst all the fame.
The visuals are at the highest they've been for a Tyler record too, just obsessed with ... read more
#3 Discography Dissection: Brockhampton
So the last BH record, "TM" is by far and away, easily their worst and most disappointing release ever.
To quickly summarise it, it's the most careless, unambitious, bland BH record you could come across.
There isn't a single good song on the entire record, not a memorable instrumental or verse from anyone, it's just incredibly phoned in.
And "GOODBYE" might just be my least favourite track ever by them. ... read more
#3 Discography Dissection: Brockhampton
An album I at first strongly disliked, I liked maybe 4/5 songs originally and that was about it but I was pleasantly surprised relistening to it again. I actually don't mind the majority of the record now which again took me by surprise.
Even at the time, I loved the idea of this being a solo Kevin project and the other project being a full group project, I think it was a smart way of doing things for the record deal but obviously in hindsight the ... read more
