songs this short, this hilarious, and this devoutly grassroots punk are impossible to dislike and the Aussie accent (I think...?) just adds to the enjoyment of it all
though the band's music is classified as "indie rock", this is as clear an example as you're likely to find of "Americana", the kind that sounds like it was dreamed up in a farmhouse near a cornfield and a big red barn...it's not my thing, especially the twangy vocals but that's no comment on its quality because this is really an exceptional album with great song structure, outstandingly layered instrumentation and solid story-telling
better than her debut, with an outstanding opening track, but too much of the same overall ... strange how she reminds me simultaneously of Liz Phair and Kurt
Why must so many bands have such amazing instrumentation and such terrible vocals?!
Is it very good? Probably not. Is it a hell of a fun listen? Absolutely.
I am with you USER RATINGS! I have never understood this band's appeal and no matter how many times I try to go back and try again, I always come away disappointed (and rolling my eyes about their lyrics)
Proof that you don't have to like or enjoy an album in order for it to still be good...
Instrumentation and sound = 80%
Vocals, especially the painful and constant repetition = 40%
Everything Shauf does is pointed in the same direction, making solid, warm, reflective music
Ultimately, a bit of a letdown, especially the back-to-back songs about his penis...
holy crap this album is good...the definition of "authentic" hip hop, unlike most of the crap filling the airwaves (and air pods)
