The plethora of things to occur at just the perfect time for this record to exist is just astounding in itself, the 70s sound and the want to refine it, the bands experience and the creative drive of Fagen and Becker all culminate into this absolutely mesmerizing piece of music.
The playing is so clearly tight knit yet carries an unmistakably relaxing groove, transitioning from song to song, that at most occurrences it cant be helped but to play it in its entirety due to its seamlessness.

No longer is this being seen as some parody message of the times, from start to finish it is clear that Damon wanted this to be a far more cohesive piece with the energy he had captured in this group than the debut with the more radical genre blending at play.

The start of one of the great unintentional musical acts today.
Possibly due to the conceived idea of the time of this being a one off, a few of the tracks here feel a bit too primitively loose to ever consider real return listens, but when the album kicks into that next gear, especially with its singles, it gives hints of whats to come with its chaotically charming atmosphere.
A fine gimmick record better than some acts entire showings at the time.
