Pretty good album. Its score would've been much higher if the whole album had been on the level of standout tracks Over Everything, Fear Is Like a Forest, and Continental Breakfast, and On Script.
A cover of Peepin' Tom was a nice surprise, but only because it's a great song, and tbh I prefer Kurt's original recording more than Courtney's cover. Going back to listen to it now.
Seems not to be the best-loved Silver Mt. Zion album, but for me this contains some of their best ever tracks in God Bless Our Dead Marines and Mountains Made of Steam.
When it's good, it's really good!
But too often it is just kind of okay. Shame.
I don't know the last time I was so underwhelmed by an album. This was just so boring.
A real No Wave/Post Punk throwback, which is definitely not a bad thing!!! I can't stop listening to this.
Never liked him much as a rapper, so this is an improvement to my ears!
I wasn't a big fan of Das Racist nor am I a big fan of Riz as an MC, but the production on this record is so good that it all just works. I can't even explain it but I like it. (For the most part. There are a couple of very skippable tracks)
Another insipid trap album.
Only achieved a score as high as it did due to some good feature spots by other artists.
I feel like I'm gonna be upgrading my score for this album every time I listen to it.
First listen - 85
Second listen - 88
Third listen - 92
...
Started out REALLY strongly but couldn't maintain the quality after the 3rd track. Disappointing.
Willing to admit that I had never heard of this guy before. What a brilliant surprise this album was. It's a great fusion of classic soul with modern influences.
