Madlib and MF DOOM craft arguably the most “classic” classic in hip-hop. The vibe of cartoon superheroes is crafted perfectly, creating Hollywood scenes as you are listening to the tracks. Listening to this legitimately feels like a movie.
A daring and ambitious project for one of the most promising up-and-comers in music, and the gamble succeeded, Quadeca crafts a nostalgic feeling yet fresh project with very little flaws.
Has a hit (Bank Account) but lacks an entire project, and even if there was some cohesion, it wouldn’t be too impressive anyway
Not the biggest fan of pop, but this is a big exception. Tame Impala crafts a wonderful listening experience from top to bottom.
The soundscape is so distorted and psychedelic and it is done so well, Lonerism is Tame Impala’s most developed and realized to date.
Kendrick killed it here, it’s so good I can’t put into words, that’s all I can say. (Update- just wanted to say how this is the most creative project Kendrick has ever made, the whole collectors edition and the Kung Fu Kenny stuff is so amazingly done.) Is this Kendrick’s best album? No not really although it is close, but it’s easily one of my favorite albums ever.
Used to love this album, still like it a lot, helped me discover BigX, this project showed how good BigX can be and that he’s not just a meme because of his weight.
This is why we consider Denzel one of the greatest rappers of the modern age, Imperial helped him achieve that status, songs like ULT show Denzel’s ability to rap and challenge the beats he’s given, and he murdered almost everyone of the songs on here.
There is decent stuff on here, buts it’s all stuff we’ve heard before, and the quality of the project as a whole is just not there, a big disappointment as a sequel to Donda.
Drake continues to show his obvious decline on “For All the Dogs” Mid everything, mid lyricism, mid beats, and all of this together makes for an incredibly stale listening experience.
Never thought I’d see Peggy and Danny create a collab album, but it works so well, Danny is his usual self, delivering effective bars over great beats. And that is what I’d like to talk about next, Peggy’s production went absolutely insane on this thing, songs like “Garbage Pale Kids” just blow me away, taking as random of a sample as he possibly could, JPEGMAFIA crafts an absolute masterpiece that he and Danny can rap over. That was just one example of why ... read more
A very good EP for both artists that would help catapult both other careeres, Black Milk’s great production assisted by the classic Danny Brown voice makes for an overall enjoyable listening experience
The greatest debut project known to hip-hop, Rocky and his producers go absolutely ballistic on this thing, showing both of their high potential and their chemistry together. This has surpassed ALLA as my favorite Rocky project, everything is so amazing and this is probably the greatest mixtape ever.
The Roots have been doing it for a while, and now they reflect on where they’ve been, as the title suggests, with uplifting verses and classic and refreshing production throughout, songs like “The Fire” will bring you out of some the darkest places in the world.
