Not even a hint of the dreaded sophomore slump. She's an artist to be treasured.
This album is so much more than a collection of songs. This album is a time and a place. I can't speak highly enough of this music; beautiful, truly beautiful.
Just saw the movie which featured the singer on backup vocals on 'Gimme Shelter'. Seeing and understanding the process of backup vocals adds so much more depth to the song. Classic rock music would have had far less of an impact without the 'colored' girls.
Over the years, there have been many attempts to fuse many music genres. A couple names that pop into mind are Tom Waits and Ween. Few were as successful as Beck. Odelay was a strong follow up to a couple smaller scale released albums, including Mellow Gold which yielded his first hit "Loser". This album allows Beck to enter the studio with a vision and take guidance from one of the smartest production teams of the current day, The Dust Brothers.
Magnum Opus
This is an amazing, personal, emotional, and wholly satisfying album. Frank Ocean absolutely killed this album and I don't think he'll top this album for a while.
Radiohead has been called many things.
Hype for Hail To The Thief was massive, as is the case with every Radiohead album.
Oddly, Radiohead doesn't go forth with this concept and make another concept album.
One of the most notable things about Hail To The Thief is the return of electric guitars.
The issue I have with these unnecessary dabbles in the weak is that they drag down the album from being a complete classic.
Hail To The Thief is an interesting album. That is, of course, until the next ... read more
The new Bowie is eventually recognized, and sets out the blueprint for electronic music for the next decade.
Ziggy the alien had come smashing down to earth in the previous album, Low.
Seizing the throne of symphonic black metal.
Among the number of symphonic black metal firsts that Emperor logged on their debut LP In the Nightside Eclipse, perhaps the most important is how they managed to so masterfully weld together a seamless bead of harsh second wave black metal and massive keyboards.
It is easy to look at all of this in retrospect, because over 20 years later there is little doubt that In the Nightside Eclipse is the symphonic black metal record that everyone turns to ... read more

Q: What's up with Portishead now...are they on hiatus or something? They haven't been around recently.
A: Yeah, they are. Although Beth Gibbons freed an album with Rustin Man from Talk Talk last year. It was completely terrible. Got rave reviews too. Oh well. Mysteries was a great song though.
But it is still a classic. Anyway, I know their are other reviews of this, but I found them all rather inadequate.
Your "Best Albums of 2014" list was made prematurely. This album is fucking magnificent. That is all.
This album is the amazing follow up to their great debut album Led Zeppelin I.

THE SONGS
1.) Whole Lotta Love
This song begins with an opening riff that I think everyone has heard at least once.
2.) What Is And What Should Never Be
The song starts out with Plant singing, and the rest of the band playing a soft, mellow ... read more
Has there ever been a band with as much hullabaloo around them as Radiohead?
Amnesiac's ghostly ambient music is rarely found in pop today.
So, you could say, Amnesiac was made by madmen.
Now wait just a gosh darn minute, here.
Sounds like this dark collection is perfect for your slightly off-the-beaten track mind?
Oh, and we finally come to the ever-burning question people who read reviews seek the answer to. If you were to follow Morning Bell's advice and "Cut the kids in half", you ... read more
Jimi Hendrix- Are You Experienced?
#15 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums
When a musician writes a piece of music, they keep two things in perspective- sound, and silence.
It should not be unfamiliar to you when I say that Jimi used a lot of guitar effect pedals, stomp boxes, and voicing modulations to craft the many unprecedented guitar tones that he is legendary for.
When people hear Jimi's name, they most likely think 'Guitar God'.
While my liking of 'Are You Experienced' may be a bit ... read more
So the e.p. is out, and those of us who have actually heard it now know the truth:
1. Ni ska. 2. No humor, except of the very, very dark variety. 3. Only one song.
But that one song-- all eighteen minutes of it-- is a doozy. It has peaks and valleys, climaxes and resolutions and codas. It's a long form composition in punk, "The Grand Wazoo" for skaters. It's ambitious and political, and above all, very good.
Amazingly, even though NOFX seems have gone all prog-rock on us with the ... read more
I love this CD. LOVE IT. LOVE IT. LOVE IT! The second "Playa" came on (which is such an infectious jam) to "Africa," I danced around my apartment and sporadically stared at my stereo thinking. "My God, this brother is brilliant." And bear in mind, I was not that deep into D'Angelo before this album. I mean, "Brown Sugar" is fine, but it didn't rock my world. But this did. Across the board, the songs are rich ("Spanish Joint"), full of ... read more
