Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High
92

This album fucking rules. Been in my favourites since I was like 14, and unlike basically every other album that has come and gone with time, only this one persists. It blasts in my car on every 8-hour road trip (believe me, I do a lot more of these than the average person, lol), it makes it into every playlist. I wouldn't have the taste I have today without this album. I wish people had more love for it like I do, but oh well. Doesn't change shit for me, cause like I said, it fucking ... read more

Fall Out Boy - Infinity on High (Deluxe Edition)

This rating is purely for the 2 singles.

GINASFS is fucking awesome. Personal favourite FOB song, and it's not really close. The riff is fucking awesome, the lyrics are clever and just cryptic enough to have that FOB flair. There's one part in the second pre-chorus where you can hear this faint descending guitar riff that follows the main track, and it's one of my favourite moments in any song. I look forward to it every time I listen to it.

It's Hard to Say is... good... ... read more

Paramore - This Is Why
92

Banger alert. Are you kidding me? Paramore still got it after all this time. While everyone else from their generation seems to have carried away with the wind somewhere, they adapt their sound and somehow remain relevant even now. Love this album. Been listening to it since shortly after it dropped and it still routinely makes its way into my rotation. Only complaint is that I wish it was a little bit longer. Crave could be 10 fucking minutes and it would make it into every playlist I ... read more

The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
94

Smoked a j, did the dishes, this album fucking rocked my world that night. One of the only albums, besides AFUT from BCNR, I have ever listened to and ordered the CD the same night. I swear to god I had this album on repeat for months after that. What an album. First, I got to say, the production on this is phenomenal. Sure, the treble on the drums is a little washed out, but the rest is so buttery smooth it is eargasmic for real.

Cherub Rock? Banger. "Let me out" section of the song ... read more

Elliott Smith - Either/Or

Man, it's felt hard to write. Overwhelmed with albums, exhausted constantly, whatever. I only write for myself, really, to get my thoughts on the metaphorical page, but it's really tough to bring myself to do. I never feel like I know an album well enough to do it a decent enough service in my review, and once I've listened to it enough that I think I understand it well enough, I don't know what to say anymore. Oh well, guess it's time I actually review something.

Jamiroquai - Travelling Without Moving
79

Jamiroquai is one of my best friend's favourite bands, and it took me a little while to realize how right he was. It definitely isn't breaking any new ground, but I'll be damned if this album isn't silky smooth. Though it isn't my favourite of their discography, this is an underrated gem of an album. So underrated, in fact, that I often hear people say "who?" or "I haven't heard that name in 20 years" when Jamiroquai gets brought up. Unfortunately, for those not in the know, ... read more

Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters

Wow. What to say? Every single song on this album has the potential to give me incessant chills. God, the passion put into this is so palpable. I won't lie and say I LOVED this out of the gate, but I'm sold now after a few listens. This was my intro to Fiona Apple and goddamn I will be going back into the rest of her discography 100%. Major highlights of this album are the vocals, the lyricism, the production, and the percussion. DAMN the rhythm section of this album goes so dummy fucking hard. ... read more

Billy Joel - The Stranger
83

This will be a shorter review because I really don't have a ton to say about this one. This is a classic album, and there's some true masterpieces here. Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and Vienna are undoubtedly the best pieces that Joel has ever written and as such are some true standouts on this album. While I've always had a soft spot for Billy Joel even as a kid, I've grown a bit out of love with his music as I start to expand my musical breadth.

This album starts to drag a bit by the ... read more

The Tragically Hip - Up to Here

Dude I miss Gord Downie :(. Canadian icon forever.

I have such a distinct memory of my cracked out gym teacher in high school blasting this EVERY class. And as a naive, stupid ass kid, I hated. I doubted. I called him weird.

I was wrong. I should have believed. I'm sorry Mr. Bell, I didn't know we had it so good. If you're looking for some good 80s/early 90s rock, you won't be disappointed. Were they reinventing the wheel on this album? Hell no, but they did a damn good job at what they did. ... read more

Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane
78

In stark contrast to anything that Maroon 5 has released in over 10 years, this album is pretty good and is by far their greatest release in their discography. In true Maroon 5 fashion, there's some stinkers on here, but otherwise there's really not much to complain about. I think the track list goes pretty strong until the last four songs, where it takes a bit of a decline in quality, then ending on a really solid final song.

My biggest question when listening to this is what in the fuck is ... read more

Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long.

This album is 100% over hated, but it certainly is not a great album. I find this one to be simply okay, even considering the slight nostalgia I have for this album. I used to think this album went so hard as a teenager because I found the CD in my parent's old collection and kind of fucked with it. Years later, some of these songs hold up, but I'd be lying if some moments here didn't make me cringe a little bit. Unfortunately, this is the last enjoyable Maroon 5 record, and they went out with ... read more

Fall Out Boy - Folie à Deux
94

I've had a weird relationship with this album. Having been an Infinity on High fanboy for years before listening to this, I was initially thrown off and disturbed. Until... I don't know. I just kept giving it chance after chance because something was hooking me. Fuck. I love this album. This has surpassed my love for Infinity on High at the most unprecedented level. I could gush for thousands of words, but I'll keep it as concise as I can.

If you're a fan of FOB's first three albums, this one ... read more

Wow. Just Wow. There's so much that I can say about this collection that I don't even know where to start. I know I won't even get to everything I want to talk about, so I'm likely going to come back and edit this whenever I think of something else that I feel needs to be said.

First of all, it's important to acknowledge that Carlos is working with some absolutely stellar source material here. Nostalgia is an extremely powerful factor when listening to music, and I believe that Carlos has ... read more

Stevie Wonder - The Definitive Collection
85

I've always been a fairly big fan of Stevie Wonder's music, but I had never really gone beneath the surface of his absolutely enormous discography. So happy I found this CD for cheap on a trip to LA, because it showed me a glimpse into what I was missing out on. Happy to say that I absolutely love this collection, despite there being a few tracks on here that I could really do without (I am also not sure about the incorrect track rating listed here. I will list the tracks of the version of the ... read more

Paul Simon - Negotiations and Love Songs

Fun collection of Paul Simon songs. I picked this CD up for $3 at my local used record shop and surprisingly, I have had a lot of these tracks on very frequently. However, there surely are some songs on here that I could do without. This was my true introduction to Paul Simon and I am excited to dive a bit deeper into his discography.

Track ratings:
1. Mother and Child Reunion: 6.5/10
2. Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard: 7.5/10
