I'm probably gonna be adding points to the rating over time, this is such a hard record to wrap your head around and yet it's easy to understand it's a fucking masterpiece. A beautiful, chaotic, heart-wrenching masterpiece.
The second half is better than the first for sure. If the second disk were a standalone album it would probably get a 80. I still appreciate the way the album presents two differents perspectives on slowthai's character.
EDIT: 75 -> 80 okay I think I was a bit harsh. Have your 80 Mr. thai.
MF DOOM & Madlib are a match made in heaven in this album, which flows so smoothly you might not realise when the next track begins.
Granted, I haven't had the chance to expose myself enough to Cudi's other stuff, but for now this stands as one of my favorite albums of the last few years.
Oh hell yes. Oh fuck yes. Ye & Scott sound so good throughout this whole album, and the production is crazy good. Overall a great record.
This album is so ground-breaking and it means a lot to me emotionally. SOPHIE was truly a legend and her legacy won't be forgotten.
Not his most interesting album ever, but I still enjoy it quite a bit. And Ghost Town is perhaps Ye's best track ever. I also love how he explores mental health.
This thing has grown on me like crazy, and while it's very messy, it's a very enjoyable mess. Another album like this and I might become a christian myself.
P.D. I feel like God Breathed and Junya are very unappreciated in the tracklist, these are the 2 songs that have grown on me the most personally.
Not as high on the ratings as Veteran or LP!, but still a very solid album with lots of detail and a very homemade aesthetic that I dig a lot. Free The Frail has to be Peggy's most emotional and vulnerable moment in any of his more recent albums, Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot is as crazy as the title suggest and yet it has some of the most gorgeous moments of the year it came out, tracks like Grimy Waifu are also among my favorites, overall Peggy's discography is so fucking stacked that while ... read more
This is Ye's most experimental one to date. And I love experimental. So I love this album.
Edit: somehow I used to be totally indiferent about Blood On The Leaves, but I revisited it today and I had the biggest smile on my face as I was headbanging to the beat drop, so that alone bumped up my rating a couple points.
This shit GOOD! Like GOD DAMN!!! I wish I showed more interest in rap back when this record came out because oh man, this is the kind of music I needed back then and I didn't know it. The album isn't without it's flaws, but when you have songs like POWER, All Of The Lights, Monster and Runaway in the same album, you know you got something special in your hands. One of Ye's best albums, no doubt.
I'm not super into Death Grips as a whole, but damn, this album is something else and it deserves huge credit. I have yet to find another album that is this abrasive and yet catchy at the same time. I got like half the hooks from this album stuck in my head right now, my mind is full of "GET GET GET GET GOT GOT GOT GOT", "I GOT THE FEEVEEER", "I'M IN YOUR AREAAA", "I STAY NOIDED I'VE SEEN FOOTAGE", "SO YOU REALLY WANNA KNOW, DOUBLE" and so ... read more
I used to not care about hip-hop that much. My taste was very narrow and niche, only really listening to electronic music, especially dubstep, which honestly is pretty embarassing to admit. Throughout 2019 and 2020 I started trying to expand my taste a bit more, and I found JPEGMAFIA. After listening to some of his more recent singles at the time (especially BALD!), I found myself listening to this album.
Long story short, it blew my fucking mind.
The production of this thing is among the ... read more
This album is probably Peggy's best. Back when I listened to Veteran a couple years ago (which, as weird as it may sound, is what got me interested in hip-hop as a genre after only being interested in electronic music) I didn't think he would be able to match the beautiful chaos of that record, but holy s@#!t he definitely outdid himself here. This album has since taken Veteran's place as my favorite album of all time.
Containing some of the best tracks of the year in my opinion (HAZARD DUTY ... read more
