as a Scot, I've not found much from our nation that I've enjoyed in terms of music, maybe I'm not looking hard enough. However, Idlewild was a surprising find a few years back and this album, in particular easily stands out, the first 4 tracks are such an incredible start to an album with just back-to-back favourites. Everything else following is also very enjoyable but to have that start almost slows it down for me and I became less engaged despite everything after not sounding bad either. It ... read more
I think this is an album that has aged wonderfully, again a classic aoty clash of the track ratings being overall high but then the actual user scores of the album being lower than what they should be. Is this his weakest album? Yes. Is it bad? Hell No. To compete with his other albums is no easy work especially when he was no longer around to finish it, also they are some of the best albums ever, across music. Certainly can be a favourite for those who enjoy the more jazz side of Nujabes's ... read more
A Strong album from Joey, while I don't think it delivers the constant flow and vibe that 1999 did, while it captures and expands upon it in certain aspects of this album, in many places it also loses itself pretty heavily, a slightly bumpy listen with some great to alright, to one being very awful to end tracks delivering home. If you enjoy 1999, you'll enjoy this more in certain parts and less in others.
An absolute hard hitter, everything from start to finish on this is powerful and hard-hitting, it holds a unique vibe never felt on another album before and it's fantastic, a favourite constant listen of mine back on its release and it remains just as addictive to listen to. I can hear the productive help and effort of BADBADNOTGOOD in here too, it's got that crispness in its instrumentals that only they can deliver. Wonderful album.
I find it quite funny this is lower rated than Yesterday's Gone for a lot of people, despite the tracklist rating being consistently higher across the board here, Yesterday's Gone has some magical songs in it but as does this, far more often, this project offers a far smoother ride of Carner's defined sound, everything across it is extremely wonderful work and awesome to chill out to. Maybe it doesn't go as strong on the deep messages with only a couple of tracks doing so but there is no ... read more
a relaxed album with beautiful messages about life, and how it goes on. Jazz'd and Lofi'd out with smooth and calm lyrical flow. I remember listening to this one frequently as a younger teen. Could be the starting point of my love for this type of chilled-out hip-hop. Extremely solid and great album that Carner leaps from to only get better after. Not everything stands out but there are some great songs in here.
Nothing has felt more special than coming to own this on vinyl, this may be heavily nostalgia carried but I do not think it is, great memories from long ago 100% help the music to bring me such peace but there's a huge reason it's an ost that lives on in peoples memories a decade and more later, it is beautifully handcrafted and Minecraft would not be the game it was if it I didn't have this line up of songs playing alongside it helping to bring a feeling like no other game. Often music like ... read more
The whole album is a trip, it flows extremely well song after song, and it all sounds top-notch. It is pure high-quality consistency from start to finish and becomes just that reliable album you can pop on without much hassle on most days. It's become a staple for a lot of people myself included, it's not leaving me with a huge impactful feeling and has its moments that stand out negatively only because 90% of it is just straight flow it pops out more. But it's never left me unsatisfied at any ... read more
I've found I'm quite the sucker for Math Rock, which is a lovely genre, Chon has been one of my go-to's for it and I wish we'd hear from them again. Without knowing if they'll ever make a return I bought this on vinyl just for a keepsake in case they do not, it's a lovely LP and while what it is, is never going to blow me away it is relaxing and enjoyable. On the nice artwork that keeps the vinyl inside, It has text messages from two of the band members, the final text reads "Let's keep it ... read more
My favourite Kendrick album. Perfection is a beautiful story told through some of his best music ever. It's a special listen. Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst is quite possibly my favourite song not just from Kendrick but ever, across the board, and despite that level, the rest of the album has to live up to it, all of it does. It's phenomenal.
This album despite not containing Charming Man is my favourite Smiths album. If it did have Charming Man then it'd be even more cemented. In comparison to The Queen is Dead, I think this album delivers far more consistency and has far more enjoyable tracks overall, Tracks 6 to 10 are some of my favourite tracks of theirs ever and they all come one after the other Is fantastic with the other tracks beforehand also being great listens as well, there is not one song on here that I do not enjoy or ... read more
Strange one to do, but this is easily one of the most overrated albums ever. This does not mean it is a bad album, this is a fantastic album but is not even close to the perfection it is perceived at, it is, without doubt, full of many fantastic tracks. But to listen to this and hear certain tracks like Vicar in a Tutu and Frankly, Mr Shankly and say yup this deserves to be called perfect is wild. Most songs outside of that are very hypnotic and phenomenal but aren't blowing me straight to the ... read more
Shouldn't have taken me this long to review this album, full of some of Nujabes best work it is also full of maybe some of his more lack-lustre stuff, lack-lustre at Nujabes level doesn't mean bad songs either but certainly the contrast to the absolute masterpieces like Feather and Luv Sic pt 3, to maybe less enjoyable sounds in my opinion in the likes of Thank You which in all honesty may be my least favourite track ever of his, I find it quite obnoxious personally, as the instrumental and ... read more
I can't say I've dived too deep into Red Hot Chili Peppers' discography, I just remember listening to Can't Stop, absolutely adoring the song and deciding to listen to the LP it was a part of. I find this LP to be consistent and enjoyable listening, not blowing me away but this thing had zero skips, and every song is well produced with some being extremely to fairly catchy, it's energetic yet relaxing in a way and it's just a very pleasant listen. I can comfortably come back and listen many ... read more
What an almost nostalgic return this song gives, truly recreating that Trench feel to it, goosebumps giving but you also know it's going for something a little bit different but not too much, really letting you still know and feel it is part of this Clancy universe. This is how you start an album and I hope the whole thing delivers.
It was a long long wait for this album, and while it contains so many enjoyable and exciting songs, I personally feel like it just barely has not beaten out the first glass beach album, I felt more of consistency and enjoyment from it, while the sound of some songs swerved me in an exciting way, sometimes plastic death swerves you too far out and disconnects you for awhile. It was more than worth the wait for this album to come out with more great music to enjoy but not worth it in terms of ... read more
