I saw it coming but it still greatly disappoints me to say that this new Rise Against album is, uh, poopoo. Hot, sticky, wet, stinky, smelly poopoo.
In spite of some surprisingly clean production choices and some very tight performances all-around (props to Tim for what I feel are some of his best vocal takes in recent memory), Nowhere Generation is - as anticipated - yet another bland attempt at recreating the greatness of past accomplishments. While not as directly offensive as The ... read more
No page was made already or this so I had to make one. Listen to it yourself, this is one of the finest noise rock records I've discovered in recent memory. The only reason it's not getting a perfect score is because I've only heard it once
FFO: The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Daughters (Hell Songs era), Intercourse
Thought-provoking, visually rich, and at times hilarious, Serj Tankian's newest record is a cathartic unraveling and condemnation of modern day America set to a backdrop of gorgeous, classical soundscapes. It's incredibly timely and every bit as absurd and eccentric in delivery and prose as some of his best work. Easily one of the best things I've heard this year.
I don't got anything to add to the discussion, but this shit slaps, thanks

Chapter 8: Wolves
Wolves. This is the sound of a band with nowhere left to go. The production is pretty decent, the first album where the mix doesn't seem to be overtaken by Tim's sourly aging voice. The opener is the title track, a dynamic, blistering, "Help Is On The Way" part 2 of a fucker.
Okay, okay maybe calling it a part 2 is harsh. But that pre-chorus is so similar, and the general concept is just more of Rise Against's vague mall ... read more

Chapter 7: The Black Market
Regardless of the execution, The Black Market was the record that Rise Against needed to make at this point in their career.
The album kicks off with the 3 and a half minute bangeroni pizza "The Great Die-Off", complete with the band's usual brand of riffs galore, bass heavy, radio-ready revolution rock. And get this, there's even strings! Even if this track is very typical for the band at this point, the ... read more

Chapter 6: Endgame
"War bad" the album.
For such a generally weak and boring album, Endgame actually starts off quite strong. "Architects" is one of the biggest, hardest, best anthems the band has ever penned - but only if you ignore the fact that the lyrics are just an immature holier-than-thou jab at the classic Against Me! track "I Was A Teenage Anarchist". Despite the direct inspiration behind the opener, it still ... read more
Good News For People Who Like Bad News --- but better
Infectiously energetic, this is Cage The Elephant at their peak
Maybe I'm too easily pleased but I actually kinda like this album.
Favorites: We Are Between, We're Lucky, Walking and Running, Wooden Soldiers, Lace Your Shoes, Never Fuck A Spider On The Fly, Back To The Middle
Least Favorites: Fuck Your Acid Trip, The Sun Hasn't Left, Leave A Light On, Japanese Trees
A beautiful album that helped me calm down during a shroom trip. Thanks John!
Surprisingly decent, considering the abysmal lyrics and generic songwriting

Chapter 5: Appeal To Reason
More than any of the records before or after, Appeal To Reason seems to be the band's most divisive effort. Where some see it as a major dropping off point in terms of quality, others see it as the last great statement they made before their unfortunate descent into vaguely political mall punk. Personally, I fall firmly into the latter camp - albeit, I'm not one to throw around accusations of mall punk like some ... read more
Admittedly I'm not very well versed in jazz, but this album is one of the most entrancing experiences I've ever had listening to music. Perfection, as far as I'm concerned.

Chapter 4: The Sufferer & The Witness
This is noise bro
I know that Rise Against at this point has become one of those bands everyone loves to hate, and while I can understand that if you just look at the later records, this album is truly one of the greatest punk rock records ever written.
While maintaining the bottle-rocket explosiveness of their first three records, this is where the band really started to come into themselves (and ... read more
