i felt sincerely mesmerized listening to some of these tracks. the eerie synth interspersed throughout the record combined with the intentionally overdone repetition gave it a depth and a hypnotic quality that i haven't heard from alex g before. i loved the dark blues/country influence too. all this & it still doesn't lose the lyricism or atmosphere that typically defines good indie folk for me. i'm really impressed!!! ♡
favorite tracks:
- walk away
- southern sky
- gretel
1000 hurts is dripping with this egotistical antagonistic misanthropy that is just so fun to listen to. it's powerful and belligerent without being unhinged - everything about it feels intentional, even in its loudest and most raging moments. the album seems derisive and ironic but somehow that makes it even MORE evocative. i love it
favorite tracks:
- prayer to god
- canaveral
- new number order
consistently engaging with lots of variation throughout, still flows very nicely. i'm impressed with how well the coarser & more aggressive tracks complement the softer, sweeter-sounding parts of the album. the genre switches don't feel forced at all or even particularly polished, and the genuine sense of experimentation i get from it makes it a lot more interesting, endearing and fun to listen to ♡
favorite tracks:
- beta male strategies

this soundtrack is so charming and sweet!! it ranges quite a few episodes and maintains that sweetness and sparkle throughout even though some of the songs are a lil darker

the songs on the party are simple, but shauf's compelling storytelling keeps this album from feeling boring to me. i find it really easy to picture all the songs, almost like i'm watching a movie!! i feel invested in the characters and situations shauf lays out in this album & his soft voice compliments it well ♡

i had high hopes and this bored me. as aggressive as some of the tracks were it still felt kinda hollow. outside of the stronger tracks the album blended together for me without quite creating as overwhelming an atmosphere as i would've liked
