Marnie - Strange Words and Weird Wars
80

It's a pretty standard synth pop album. Doesn't do anything particularly interesting but still has some bops!
TOP 3 SONGS: Lost Maps, Heartbreak Kid, Electric Youth

Björk - Homogenic
86

It's dark, but incredibly passionate. Everything else I could say has already been said.
TOP 3 SONGS: Pluto, Joga, All Is Full Of Love

Teenage Bad Girl - Backwash
81

It's a pretty standard synthwave album that leans into experimental tendencies, and literally one rock song "Keep Up With You" which is pretty handily the best thing on the album. But still, pretty groovy, pretty fun!
TOP 3 SONGS: Keep Up With You, Fast Blood Delivery, Hold Me Tight

Lorn - Ask the Dust
83

LORN does not miss for me. Their ability to capture these dystopian and malicious vibes is unmatched.
TOP 3 SONGS: Diamond, Weigh Me Down, Ghosst

Baths - Romaplasm
84

This album and baths as an artist is controversial for a lot of people because of the vocals. Personally I compare them to sufjan stevens if he did a lot more vocal effects everywhere. There are falsetto's galore in this project. And honestly? I like it! It's unique to me, but I understand if it's offputting for some. Then comes the punchy production both resulting in extremely exciting songs and also slower quieter driftier ones, which honestly both work quite nicely.

Nosaj Thing - Fated
82

I actually really like this album! I feel like over time nosaj thing has kind of drifted away from his experimental nature and just created more dry music but this is the one exception to that because I find this heavily enjoyable despite the short length.
TOP 3 SONGS: Let You, Don't Mind Me, Sci

The Voidz - Tyranny
85

I'm not the kind of person to enjoy rock music. If you peruse my profile you'll find mostly electronic, experimental, and synth pop albums. But this album is an exception for me, probably a lot of that due to the experimental nature of it. Especially the song Human Sadness, it is 11 minutes long but is one of the most warpy, wild, and soul crushing songs I have ever heard in my life.
TOP 3 SONGS: Human Sadness, Take Me In Your Army, Xerox

Röyksopp - The Inevitable End
87

Whee! It's the 3 year anniversary of when I discovered this album, and it has a special place in my heart, so I want to edit my review of it because the old one was not very great.

This album is my favourite Royksopp album. And by that I mean, this album has my favourite Royksopp songs of all time. Several of them. But the album itself DOES have some major pitfalls. But first let me get into the positives.

This album has, in my opinion, the hardest hitting material Royksopp has ever put ... read more

The Knife - Silent Shout
86

This is such a rich experimental pop album. It's manages to do a bunch of really unique stuff that both satisfies people who want relatively easy listening and also satisfies people who strive to find really unique and out there experimental stuff. It's just wildly good.
TOP 3 SONGS: Marble House, We Share Our Mothers Health, Like A Pen

공중도둑 [Mid-Air Thief] - 무너지기 [Crumbling]
85

Yeah this album is truly something else. It takes the acoustic guitar and absolutely PUSHES it to it's limit and that results in some absolutely incredible and unique stuff. The fact that it's a home-made album and not studio produced is all the more impressive as well. Absolutely stunning and gorgeous sounds.
TOP 3 SONGS: These Chains, Why, Gameun Deut

Dan Deacon - Gliss Riffer
86

This album is interesting to me because it contains my 2 absolute favourite dan deacon songs, and then literally the rest of 3-10 are all on his other album "Mystic Familiar." The other songs are great too but man, When I Was Done Dying is one of the most electric and exciting tracks I've ever heard and all the unique assortments of sounds on "Meme Generator" make for an incredibly unique listen through. It sounds like a Pogo song.
TOP 3 SONGS: Meme Generator, When I Was ... read more

Four Tet - Pink
86

It's a compilation of singles rather than a cohesive album, which at times makes some of the songs fall flat for me but the songs that hit are among some of my favourite four tet songs of all time. Specifically Locked, which I unfortunately think I am alone in overdosing on that song.
TOP 3 SONGS: Locked, Pyramid, Lion.

Slow Magic - Float
91

My favourite slow magic album! This one took me a bit to really get but after a couple listens through it really resonated with me. The songs with guest features lean in a more synth pop direction and every single one hits. The songs without lyrics are also extremely captivating and intense at times.
TOP 3 SONGS: Drum, Mind, Shivers

Laurent Garnier - La Home Box
85

Bloody amazing house music. The builds on this thing are absolutely amazing. And do not count out that remix added on at the end because that is the best song on this thing and one of my favourite songs of all time, it sounds NOTHING like the original.
TOP 3 SONGS: The Rise & The Fall Of The Donkey Dog (Husbands Remix), ENCHANTé, The Rise & The Fall Of The Donkey Dog (Original Version)

Laurent Garnier - 33 tours et puis s'en vont
64

It's really good background music and I'd enjoy listening to it while I'm doing something else but it doesn't stick out much other than that. It is nearly 3 hours long though and every song is like 10 minutes long so if you've got an assignment to finish and you want something to vibe out to this is the album for you.
TOP 3 SONGS: Reviens La Nuit, et puis, s'en va!, Sake Stars Fever

Purity Ring - shrines
83

There are no individual songs that REALLY struck a chord with me but there are no misses either. Fans of Crystal Castles who want something a little bit more chilled out, this is the artist and album for you.
TOP 3 SONGS: Lofticries, Obedear, Fineshrine

Gorillaz - The Now Now
91

This is definitely my favourite Gorillaz album. It was a result of the hatred on Humanz (which honestly was not all that bad I think people were just disappointed after the absolute whopper of plastic beach and such a long hiatus) but this album just has a melancholic but beautiful vibe that has always struck a chord with me.
TOP 3 SONGS: Humility, Sorcererz, Souk Eye

Four Tet - There Is Love in You
89

This is the magnum opus of four tet in my opinion. It actually does not have any of my top 3 favourite songs by him, but it has the consistency that the other albums do not. It's just really, really beautiful all the way through, which makes up for the lack of standouts for me.
TOP 3 SONGS: Circling, She Just Likes To Fight, This Unfolds

NERO - Between II Worlds
91

I don't understand the hate for this album, and the love for their debut album. To me, this album is far better than Welcome Reality. It feels like a more polished sound and honestly has a better consistency for me. The songs on this album that individually I do not think are that impressive, sound much better with the context of the album which I cannot say the same about welcome reality.
TOP 3 SONGS: Circles, The Thrill, Into The Night

Toro y Moi - Outer Peace
90

Really groovy electro pop, a different direction from his other work but honestly one that works incredibly well for him. Pretty standard electro pop beyond that.
TOP 3 SONGS: Freelance, 50/50, Who I Am

"absolutely stellar review"
On Sega Bodega - Dennis
"Yeah exactly. In Sega's music, he tends to embrace a really feminine side of being a man through both the production and the lyrics, which is much more typical of LGBT artists since this music and the themes tends to habit a more gender fluid space associated with the LGBT (part of the reason why I like it cause I'm gay lol). Ultimately to me it doesn't really matter if he is straight or not, the music is incredible, it was just kind of surprising lmaooo"

"no problem and ofc yeah, she was one of the first queer people that I really looked up to and made me feel comfy in my own body as a queer person so it hit really hard but I take solace in the fact that I am not the only one she impacted in that way with her work"
On BaddieBaphomet's review of SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
"god when you talked about the day sophie died it brought me right back to that too cause that was also the very first thing I saw when I woke up. I remember back then it was the height of covid so I was sleeping in absurdly late so I woke up just to go to the washroom and checked my phone and that was the first thing I saw and I was so shocked to the core that I could not fall back to sleep whatsoever. Also glad you mentioned Um Um as that has become one of my fav songs of all time and is one of the only ones that is able to consistently make me tear up LOL. Also want to mention Lost Everything by A.G. Cook & EasyFun (and Remi Wolf on vocals) off of their latest album cause that was also dedicated to her, it's another one that really hits me to the core. Really loved this writeup thank you a ton, from one queer person to another <3"
