Calvin Harris was literally everywhere in the 2010s. One of the biggest EDM/house names out there, no doubt. And man, the hits on this album are straight fire. You got Feel So Close, We Found Love, We’ll Be Coming Back, I Need Your Love, Sweet Nothing, Let’s Go, Thinking About You. All pure party anthems. Like, these songs were the soundtrack to so many nights out.
The rest of the album is mostly alright. Nothing too crazy or groundbreaking, but it gets the job done as a solid ... read more
After the somewhat decent debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans, and already being all over the radio with pop hits, Bruno came through with a better album with Unorthodox Jukebox. Again, full of radio hits, this man was everywhere. Locked Out of Heaven, Treasure, When I Was Your Man… you literally couldn’t escape them back then.
But even outside the hit singles, he delivered some solid tracks. Gorilla, Moonshine, If I Knew are all pretty good stuff. Bruno’s voice has always ... read more
We all know Rihanna ruled the 2010s party scene. She had hit after hit, no doubt. But when you actually dive into the albums... there’s just not that much depth. Same goes for Unapologetic. Besides the big singles like Diamonds and Stay, which are still solid tracks, there’s just not a lot going on here.
Sure, I liked Pour It Up, Loveeeeeee Song, What Now, Nobody’s Business, and Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary, those tracks had something. But the rest is either super ... read more
First of all, RIP Brian, you’ll be missed. You were an absolute inspiration to all of us 🕊️
The long-lost Smile project is one of those mythical “what ifs” in music history. The album that was supposed to take The Beach Boys to the next level and maybe even out-Beatle The Beatles. And The Smile Sessions gives us the clearest glimpse into what that could’ve actually looked like. Just imagine if this had properly dropped in 1967... it probably would’ve gone ... read more
Miguel is a R&B legend, simple as that. While The Weeknd was out here flipping the genre on its head in the darkest way possible, Miguel was innovating it from another angle. He didn’t completely abandon that smooth, classic R&B vibe, but he built on it. He gave it a new twist.
Kaleidoscope Dream is that perfect blend. It still has those familiar (and bit cliché) R&B themes of love, desire, heartbreak, but there’s something more to it. There’s this deeper ... read more
So yeah… Macklemore won a Grammy with The Heist.
Lol. I mean, let’s be real, the album isn’t bad at all, but when you’re going up against Kendrick, Jay-Z, Kanye, and Drake? You weren’t supposed to win. That still feels kind of wild.
But alright, credit where it’s due: this album had its moment. Tracks like Ten Thousand Hours, Can’t Hold Us, Thrift Shop, Neon Cathedral, White Walls, and Wing$ were all bangers. Very 2010s energy. And, Macklemore had ... read more
I still can’t hear Some Nights without thinking of my high school music teacher making us sing it every damn week. At some point it honestly felt like musical torture. But hey, that’s some real nostalgia.
And yeah, fun. lived up to their name for a bit: We Are Young, Carry On, Out on the Town, those were bangers. They had their moment. But outside of those tracks, I don’t really care much for the rest of the album. It’s fine, it’s listenable, but nothing on it ... read more
Barely a year after Axis, Jimi Hendrix drops Electric Ladyland. And, this is probably THE magnum opus. I’ve heard people hype this one up for years, and honestly, everyone was right. It’s exactly as good as I expected… maybe even better.
Like the first two albums, the guitar, drum and bass work is next-level. Everything is so tight, so layered. The song structures feel like they belong in a whole other universe. It’s immersive as hell.
What’s wild is how this ... read more
He was only 17 man… How could anyone be this good at only 17? Like seriously, what the hell. Joey really just showed up with 1999 and made a statement. This is how you debut. The confidence, the flows, the beats, the lyrics, it’s all here. And not just a solid debut, this is like instant classic type of debut.
1999 is full of bangers. From start to finish, no skips, no filler. The rapping is so sharp, so smooth, and the wordplay simply insane. It’s lyrical without ever ... read more
One of those rare cases where a band peaked with their debut. And even then, Night Visions isn’t great. It’s just… the best they ever managed to do before completely falling off into hot garbage territory. Everything after this album? Completely unlistenable.
Night Visions itself is already filled with that over-the-top, wannabe bombastic stuff. The kind of music that’s trying so hard to be epic, but just ends up feeling corny. The lyrics are mostly trash. The ... read more
We really got to be thankful for this album. Flo Rida ran the 2010s party scene, no doubt about it. But let’s keep it real, because musically it’s kind of garbage hearing it now. Like, they’re care-free, fun, party bangers. Whistle, Wild Ones, Let It Roll, Good Feeling, I Cry, those still hit when you’re in the right mood. They bang, sure, but is it quality music? Not really.
But maybe it doesn’t have to be. It’s not deep, it’s not innovative, but ... read more
This one’s rough. It’s like Karol G wanted to throw every possible flavour of Latin pop, reggaetón, ballads, and tropical vibes into a blender, but forgot to check if the ingredients actually worked together. Most of this album just feels painfully generic. Same recycled rhythms, predictable hooks, and way too much overprocessed, robotic autotune. It’s kind of exhausting if I may be honest.
That Be My Lover interpolation (or whatever it is) in Ivonny Bonita, pff.. ... read more
What? I’m really just sitting here like: what even is this. This one's just a meme that didn't really need an official release. I mean, cool that he’s having fun and all, but this sounds like something you post on IG Stories after a couple caipirinhas, not something you actually want to show up in your discography right?
Ummm… it’s exactly what you’d expect from Ed Sheeran at this point. Another super clean, ultra-safe, painfully polished track that doesn't go anywhere. You can tell it’s made for a soundtrack because it has that background music energy (not that his other music isn't background music, lol). Which, mission accomplished I guess?
But, it’s just so painfully dull. There’s no nothing interesting happening, sonically or lyrically, at all. Not offensive, ... read more
Sheeeeeesh, now that’s a fucking banger. Offset back at it with a fire single which seriously might be top 5 Offset for me. Maybe even top 3. This is right up there with Say My Grace, and honestly… might even go harder.
Offset just goes crazy on this on. His flow is so sharp, he sounds hungry again, and that infectious beat gives him so much space to just go crazy. And then JID slides in like it’s nothing, bringing that usual wordplay and energy like only he can. The way ... read more
So yeah... the sophomore album test. And well, Benson Boone is yet another artist who failed it. To be fair, I wasn’t a huge fan to begin with. I always found his stuff a bit generic and overly theatrical, and this album doesn’t change any of that. If anything, it leans even more into those same problems.
The moment I saw Jason Evigan on the credits again, I already lowered my expectations. That guy’s involved in so many safe, radio-friendly pop songs, and you can really hear ... read more
Daft Punk before Daft Punk were Daft Punk
Coming right off the greatness of Trans-Europa Express, Kraftwerk just kept going. No slowing down at all: Die Mensch-Maschine is another influential banger of an album. This one sees the band leaning a bit more into pop direction, with some clearer hooks and inclusion of more vocals, but still holding on tight to that hypnotic, robotic, electronic sound they’re known for.
The synth work is again, just brilliant. Super precise, melodic, clean. ... read more
After already putting out those beautiful ambient synth albums like Autobahn and Radio-Activity, Kraftwerk just went all in on Trans-Europa Express. And this might just be THE electronic music album. Like, the blueprint. You hear this influence everywhere — from techno to synth-pop to even hip-hop, it’s insane how far this thing reached.
Compared to their earlier stuff, this one leans less into ambient and more into those sharp, hypnotic electronic patterns. And it works so well. ... read more
After Pacific Ocean Blue, which was already an incredible record, Dennis started working on Bambu, and he just kept that same ambitious energy going. You can hear it right away that he was still in that creative zone, and again, these songs prove how talented he really was. The album still carries that signature melancholy, but also with a funky, raw, and emotionally intense edge. It’s all very much Dennis Wilson.
Even though not every song was fully finished, most of them sound pretty ... read more
