The production might be slightly too overblown in the chorus, and I don't like how they mess with her vocals near the end, but Caroline's vocal performance is still amazing and the track features fun melodies.
I didn't think I would love this EP as much as I do. The first time I listened to an Intercourse project was their 2023 album "Halo Castration Institute." I didn't really care for it though as I found it to be too simple, too repetitive, and derivative of other sludge metal projects I've heard before. This EP however... slaps and leaves the band with a more identifiable presence.
It features dissonant riffs that are accompanied by these manic vocals that come together really well. ... read more
This is my first time listening to Mk.gee project. While I had an overall pleasant time listening to this, most of these songs sound like they need something else to have them stand out. Like they're presented with 'what you hear is what you get' and it leaves the songs don't really feel eventful or able to be differentiated. It makes me feel like I'm on a train that is stopped instead of moving towards something. There's some good performances like the guitar solo on "Candy," but ... read more
Really good death metal track. Features strong performances throughout its runtime.
This is my least favorite of the singles leading up to "Clancy." I still think it's a solid track that features a good chorus. Though I wish it had more genre blending elements to it and wish it was less simple sonically.
The intro reminded me a little bit of the atmosphere off of "A Different Shade of Blue." This track also features one of the more unique breakdowns from Knocked Loose and Poppy does a great job of adding to the track.
I decided to check this out randomly and I found it to be very compelling. It features some deep lyrics that I haven't heard executed in this way before. The atmosphere of this album feels like I'm sitting next to a campfire in the middle of the woods and on the other side is a woman, that may or may not be a witch, venting about the wrongs of the past and present. Meanwhile in the darkness of the trees, you hear noises ranging from human to siren head. The lyrical delivery makes it hard for ... read more
I didn’t really care for this track on its own as I found it to be too tame for grindcore standards, hopefully it sounds better on the album.
One of Memphis May Fire's most generic and forgettable tracks they've made. The cha-cha-chaotic backing vocals is terrible.
The production on this track is good and I think Jake's vocals work well with the song. When it comes to the djent instrumentals, they are fine but not incredibly innovative on this song. The song doesn't really grow and I think that would've made it better if it didn't follow a simple song structure. Plus Noah gives a pretty lackluster performance in the chorus and leaves it forgettable.
Full Of Hell improve their sound and add creativity to their sophomore LP collaboration with Merzbow. I found this to be a great listen and featured a lot of memorable moments that separate it from normal grindcore. Merzbow's noise inclusions complimented a lot of the tracks on here and gave them another layer of atmosphere. After constant listens, this has became my favorite Full Of Hell project.
On "Stereo Grief" I've found that Greyhaven have made their most interesting release to date. A reason that I've always struggled to enjoy Greyhaven is how a lot of the songs feel the same and have similar progressions. That's why I didn't really care for the single "The Welcome Party," cause it felt to similar to a track off of "This Bright and Beautiful World." However, on this EP, none of the tracks sound similar to each other and nothing was really predictable. ... read more
If this was a full album instead of an EP, I probably would've hated it more cause it would've lasted longer. A lot of these songs sound undercooked and feature elements that sound like they needed more workshopping.
The bridge in "Dante" where the small buildup sounded like it wanted to be this big moment, instead it just has a light edm section that sounds more like a placeholder for something stronger. The track "Kraft" featured some fast paced rap-like vocals, but it ... read more
The first full album by Eidola that I've heard and it sounds a lot like Dance Gavin Dance mixed with Issues. A lot of the same problems that I have with both of those bands are also shared on this album. I found the instrumentals to be even more derivative and forgettable when compared to DGD and Issues. The album really drags as it gets closer to the end.
This is pretty derivative of a lot of modern metalcore bands with djent style riffs from bands like Polaris, Windwaker, and While She Sleeps. I can think of at least a few tracks that sound exactly like the song "CANVAS" This album also features a lot of djent sections that sound like it's parodying "Animals As Leaders." The longer this album went on the more annoying and repetitive it got.
I only listened to this cause I knew Jordan Fish was writing and producing this due to the fact that this band supports transphobia and they block people who call them out for it. It's obvious that this track is going for a Bring Me The Horizon sound. If you're gonna go for that sound, don't have choruses where part of the delivery sounds like top 40 radio. It also doesn't help that Sam's cleans aren't that good and he needs to sound like he's straining his voice. Instrumentally and ... read more
