This is harder to listen to than the last single. This features repetitive instrumentals, and vocals that sound like they ripped off *NSYNC. Not to mention the lyrics are describing a "main character: I'm gonna defeat you" situation in a bland and not unique way.
This is my first album experience made by April Harper Grey, who goes by the alias "underscores." Her debut album "fishmonger," features a fun collection of hyperpop songs that include lyrics worth dissecting. For example, the song "Bozo Bozo Bozo" features silly lyrics, yet I think the lyrics can also dive into the negativities of beating yourself up. The track "Where did you fall" has lyrics that describe a broken relationship and the instrumentals ... read more
When I saw this referred to as thall with clean vocals I knew I wasn't gonna like it. For the record, I don't think clean vocals are inherently bad, but this album isn't helping its case. This album is way too overproduced. Every djent riff on this album sounds the same, and it blends in with a lot of djent from other modern metal bands. Plus the clean chorus sections weren't combined well together, specifically on the track "two" that starts heavy and then suddenly goes into basic ... read more
This features some of the most obnoxious vocals I've ever heard on a post hardcore song.
The debut album for Full of Hell shows a lot of potential for this band even though it is a pretty simple execution of sludge metal and grindcore that would need to do more in order to stand out.
On "A Quiet Place To Die," Alpha Wolf deliver a metalcore experience with elements of nu metal and modern djent production. I would say this project has elements that make it stand out more in that field. The drum work on most of this LP is very technical compared to a majority of modern metalcore. A lot of the riffs and breakdowns are more chaotic than modern nu metalcore. However, a lot of the songs on here sound the same in the way they are delivered similarly to other bands. I ... read more
Allie X brings a lot of personality to this album. Her vocals are great and also varied with delivering high notes on "Off With Her Tits" and hitting low notes on "John and Johnathan." Although, my major gripe with the album is that it's borrowing a little too much from the 80s synthpop sound to where at some points it sounds like it's copying from artists from that time period. I also think she could've added more to it to make it unique and sound maybe slightly more ... read more
This new Full of Hell track is a track more fast paced compared to most of the tracks they've been putting out recently. I'm glad that they're switching things up compared to the last couple albums which lets them show more variety.
The lyrics are a little on the nose, but instrumentally it goes hard and it features energetic vocal performances that compliment the instrumentals.
Even though I didn't like Prada's "Color Decay," it at least had lyrics that were at points good and worth dissecting. Unlike this single, where not only have I felt like I've heard these clean vocals before, but the "Everything is possible, we could be unstoppable" type chorus rhyme, as well as the riffs are very 2020s Architects, so not good.
Better than the original. The instrumentals in the verses and chorus are improved and give the track more energy. Plus that bridge with the harmonies is glorious
On this single, Alpha went with a track that is more on the melodic side. However, it doesn't sound like Alpha Wolf, instead it sounds like they're trying to emulate The Amity Affliction or a late 2010s Architects song. The track sounds bland with its too easy to follow structure, basic drum parts, and stock guitar riffs. This track really needed something else to make stand out from other types of metalcore tracks like it.
Easily the most predictable single for the upcoming EP. The djent doesn't do enough to make this song new and different, making it forgettable
I appreciate Job For A Cowboy taking a more tech death approach and I think they pull it off really well. From the technical guitar, bass, and drum parts, you can tell that the band put a lot of work into this album. I bet they could go even further on a future LP with this style, but I'm satisfied with this. Nearly 10 years of wait was worth it for me.
While I really like the atmosphere this album creates, I feel that some of the songs are a little stretched out and could be offering more to them. Not a bad project though. If you like doom metal then give it a shot.
Pretty solid metal track that features some well made melodic riffs, kinda wish the track had more different sections to it but it's not bad at all
(Warning: long review/rant, it’s a little mean, you are allowed to like this album, and I hope Jacob Collier is successful and happy)
As someone who is studying to be a music educator, I was hoping to like this album. I was hoping that even though I didn't like Jacob's last project, or even the singles leading up to this album, it would somehow turn out better than I thought it would. However, not only did I not have an enjoyable experience with this album, at a few points it was ... read more
"The Cold Sun" is my first experience of the band Loathe. Loathe are a band that I've heard lot of praise from people in the metalcore community, so I was excited to check this album out and see for myself what has made them so loved. Sadly, I didn't really get much out of this album. A lot of the heavy moments of this album sounded the same in the way it was delivered and I was hoping for more complex riffs and breakdowns. There's also a lot of songs that don't really go anywhere and ... read more
