Pipes is a stunning song, however the rest of the album does not impress me as much. Still very enjoyable however, great piece of experimental pop.
A very enjoyable little EP from Lil Ugly Mane and Supa Sortahuman, but the inconsistencies bring this down. The production continues to prove that LUM is one of the best producers of this decade, and Supa's voice complements the chilled, downtempo style. His verses are pretty average, but his delivery is what gets me. Supa Sortahuman has a voice that will make any song better, even if it has sub-par lyrics.

I feel the same way about this as I did for the Macklemore album: some good moments, but overall this comes off as very corny. Green Day had their peak in the 90's and a resurgence when American Idiot came out, but now they are well out of their prime. Their formula on this album is extremely obvious, and the shoddy production makes this even harder to stomach. I don't wanna bad-talk these guys too much, because I played their stuff throughout my childhood. But ever since 21st Century ... read more
I originally had this album scored at an 80. Oh how wrong I was. Now, this still isn't an album that I think I'll be listening to all the time, but now I have fully realized it's true beauty. Jazz, rock, and electronic music all incorporated into a single project, and one from 2000 for that matter. It's a trailblazer for sure, and every aspect of this project is executed in a perfect manner. I sincerely apologize to all the Radiohead stans when I first wasn't a huge fan of this project. Really enjoyed this project. Maybe it's because I haven't listened to anything else from Tycho, but I thought this was a very fun and energetic album. There wasn't a ton of variation, but enough to keep me listening, and the speed of the record also earned my affection. Nothing crazy, but a very solid LP
Obviously there was no way that this could be as good as the band's debut LP. But I was expecting a little bit more. The instrumental arrangements are still pretty solid, however Kinsella's voice has deteriorated over time, which happens to everyone, but it now has a country-like tone. I enjoyed AF1 because of it's angst and emo sadness, but this record lacks the angst, and instead heaps on more sadness. The lyrics are decent, a bit repetitive and sometimes cheesy, but nothing that is ... read more
Can't believe how absolutely wild this mixtape is. The bass-heavy production just makes the music even more in-your-face than it would be with mellower bass. Ruby da Cherry and $uicide Christ's unorthodox deliveries are a highlight of the tape; with sing-like rapping as well as heavy screams that resemble those commonly used in black metal. $uicideboy$ aren't something that I can listen to all the time, because their gimmick does get old after a while, however if you're looking for primal, ... read more
The first 11 songs or so have some of the most charmingly humorous hip hop of recent times, but the last third of the tape takes a bit of a dip in quality. Rainbow in the Dark is one of the best rap tracks of the decade as well.
fav tracks: Rainbow in the Dark (standout), Fake Patios, Hugo Chavez
Mind-numbingly boring. Francis' voice lacks any real emotion to show through the electronic modification of it, and the production is decent at best. This would have been a lot better if the filler was eliminated and the rest was created into a 4-5 track EP.
fav track: Friends
Lyrics suck, instrumentation doesn't have enough depth. The various samples used are pretty unnecessary in my opinion, but the production as a whole is decent.
This seemed like a project that would be right up my alley. But there was little to no substance in Hval's voice that kept me interested.
Pretty close to a carbon-copy of Andrew Jackson Jihad. Not a bad thing, I am a huge AJJ fan, but the singer's tone, the pace of the record, and the short song lengths show that Pat The Bunny does not only wear their influences on their sleeves, but rather from head to toe.
fav tracks: The Hand You Reach Out is Empty, Run From What's Comfortable
Through pagan themes and very bare-bones instrumentation, Robert N. Taylor created a comfortable yet haunting folk composition. His voice echoes into my soul when I listen to this, in the best way possible. Records like these are those that I appreciate the most due to the sheer complexity in lyrics and simplicity of instrumentation, because sometimes they just don't match.
fav tracks: Fire of Life, Early Morning Hours of the Night, Horizons That I See, R.I.P. Van Winkle's Pipe Dream
The orchestration made me feel as if I were a character in a middle ages folk tale. I love that feeling.

In 2011 Danny Brown dropped what would become one of the most beloved hip hop mixtapes of this decade with XXX. His charisma and humor struck the hearts of millions, including my own. The tape was experimental yet accessible, with a split between fun songs about women, drugs, and money, and songs about Danny's past and the problems he encountered during it. Two years later, Brown put out Old, a much more generally accessible concept album that consisted of a Side A and a Side B, ... read more
