A short yet stunning set of tracks from up and coming producer mus.hiba. Each song is smooth and glitchy at the same time, with many layers to the production. The use of a completely artificial voice (which mostly only creates dreamy sighs) is a very innovative trait to this EP, as the majority of songs I have heard with computer-created voices have been pretty cringe-worthy. Nothing on Hitoe is perfect, but with some polishing and practice, it looks like mus.hiba is on his way to crafting a ... read more
I am not at all a fan of grindcore, or most hardcore music for that matter. But even I can't deny that this is an impressive album. Nails crafted 20 minutes of pure chaos, and although it may seem excessively violent and monotonous, there is plenty to enjoy throughout this project.
I was looking forward to Charli taking a more PC Music approach to her next album, but instead she turns to sugary, upbeat dance pop bangers. Which is by NO means a bad thing, I think this is a very fun and satisfying song, but it is slightly forgettable. Lil Yachty doesn't contribute at all, and the song is a bit overproduced.
Obviously its good, but it has the same problem the other two singles have had (except maybe Talk To Me): no real punch like everything on RTJ and RTJ2 had.
The youthful nature of this album is what I love and hate about it. On one hand, the dull and adolescent lyrics make this album something like an immature Belle & Sebastian, and on the other, the very colorful instrumentation keeps me listening throughout. Overall a solid project, but until the songwriting is improved, it's nothing to go crazy about.
I fell asleep. The lyrics could be the deepest thing I've ever heard and I'll still snooze through this because of Mark's terribly monotone voice and the lack of excitement or energy on any of the instrumentals.
Shitty features and a lack of variation bring YG down for the 2nd time this year. He remains the best G-funk/west coast rapper of right now, but he wastes his potential. YG can make an album that rivals those of the prime 90's west coast hip hop era, like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, but he instead turns to blander and more hook driven tracks, as well as loose collections of tracks instead of albums.
fav track: I'm a Thug Pt. 2
least fav track: I Be On
Elegant and heartfelt songwriting, but the sonic aspect of this album is very lackluster. Nothing truly stands out, and I can only see this as just another indie album.
Surprisingly, Yung Lean made something worse than Warlord in the same year.
The Weeknd's follow up to 2015's Beauty Behind the Madness is an improvement; but not very much of one. Most songs are painfully formulaic, with very shallow lyrics and anticlimactic production (aside from the Daft Punk crafted songs). Kendrick Lamar, however, absolutely kills it on his feature, even with Sidewalks being one of the more annoying songs on Starboy. Lana Del Rey does what she does best by not adding anything positive to the album, and Future lightens the mood with his verse on ... read more
Vaporwave starts and ends here. The album is too long for its own good, but the slowed down and pitch shifted vocals on most tracks make up the unique sound that Lopatin created, and has been such an influential part of diy music in this decade. Lopatin has surpassed himself multiple times since Eccojams, but nothing else has been as influential and important.
Honestly, this wasn't all too special to me. I guess the instrumentation was spacey and cool but it didn't strike me as super impressive. The singing was also very average, especially the singer's tone of voice, which began to get on my nerves.
After Lou Reed explored a darker and more experimental form of rock with The Velvet Underground, he pioneers the glam rock genre on his 2nd solo project. Transformer's blend of piano ballads and classic rock songs make for a very diverse listen. Reed's singing is not at all that great, but he never tried to be the best singer. His voice cracks here and there, but his tone and lyrics take control, making his flaws irrelevant. Perfect Day and Walk on the Wild Side are two essential 70's rock ... read more

Beautiful atmospheric rock. Every song is incredibly textured and interesting, and there is not one serious, or even minor, misstep. Stratosphere is not something that I could go back to all the time, but it is something that I think is essential to anyone who loves slowcore and shoegaze.
