Bones adds some different production styles to this tape, and reverts back to his lighter flow and delivery. There is some vaporwave influence on a few tracks, which is something that Bones hasn't used in his music for a while. The theme of a computer and it's programs making noises stays apparent on the whole album, with some various sounds and vocal bits popping up here and there which sound straight out of Windows 98.

I won't go as far to say that this is an incredible album or that it is above average in any way aside from the production. But without this, rap wouldn't be nearly the way it is today. Lil B has some shitty bars, but the style that he pioneered was emulated by countless rappers in the 2010's, creating the wonderful subgenre of cloud rap. Clams Casino's work (ESPECIALLY on I'm God) influenced future producers, and the two of them pairing up really changed the rap game, even though both of ... read more
I've been a little disappointed with the amount of releases from the PC Music label this year; there was the fantastic Vroom Vroom EP, but aside from that there's been a shortage of tracks put out from the collective. But Kero Kero Bonito leaves me pretty satisfied with what I have been craving. This production is the same quality as any other release from PC, very bubbly and textured beats with plenty of bass laid over it.
The main issue I have with Bonito Generation is purely the lyrics ... read more
A more club-oriented approach to contemporary electronic music from Sweet Trip, before they became electro-shoegaze masters
A folkier version of Have A Nice Life. Dan presents the same very faint vocals and depressing moods, but he goes so much deeper lyrically than he does on his main project. This record depicts his struggles and dark times in his life, all while at times sounding a little bit optimistic. All of the guitar and drum work is much more reserved and clean cut (most of the time) to create less of a shoegaze/rock style project, but more in the chamber folk/lo-fi rock genres. A few of the songs ... read more
Bones has been resonating with me a lot lately. I doubt that he will stay as high as he is now on my ratings, however he's been my most frequented rapper for the past month or so. I love how he is harsh and aggressive but still has moments where he sounds delicate and almost out of breath. This mixtape especially is loaded with bangers.
Scumbag is the transition mixtape into the grittier, more trap-influenced Bones that we get much more of in his more recent mixtapes. His voice is still soft, but the beats got much more dark, creating a different synthesis between the lyrics and instrumentals than what was on his older tapes.

Not nearly as grandiose and fully-formed as Have A Nice Life's debut project, but The Unnatural World is still a very satisfying album.
The band condenses much of what they have to say in about half the time they took previously, which I am conflicted on. On one hand, they trimmed all of the extra bits and pieces off of this album, which makes for a cleaner and more organized listen. But I also loved how the long and drawn out tracks on Deathconsciousness fit the depressing tone so ... read more
Shaz you fucking retard you forgot to put the release date when you were entering the album details
Even with Bones' prolific nature of releasing his music, he has some incredible projects under his belt, especially Useless. He juxtaposes a loud and angry delivery with a super light singing voice so perfectly throughout this tape, and that weird style is what keeps me listening. The production is just as beautiful, airy and ethereal beats that I feel like could be used just as easily on any dream pop song.
This will probably end up being one of my favorite projects of this year, as Useless ... read more
De La Soul tries to force the "happy" gimmick much longer than what was necessary, and end up flooding the album with cheesy topics and an atmosphere that left a bad taste in my mouth. Their production as well as their lyricism was pretty solid however, even with some very cringe-worthy lines here and there.
Beck is a terrific artist in every sense of the word. However, on this album he just doesn't use his talent as well as he had in the past, and ended up creating a very commercially friendly album that droned on much longer (with not enough variation) than it should have. Even with Odelay being circlejerked by critics, it is far from Beck's best output.

Pure candy to the ears. Some of the most wholesomely fun and upbeat pop music from the 1960's. The songwriting is brilliantly catchy, and the harmonizing between Ronnie and the other two is absolutely perfect. Nothing here is groundbreaking or super unique, but I haven't had this fun while listening to an album in a long, long time. I for sure will be revisiting this in the future.

Something really unique and interesting, but also the type of music that gives you a headache after a while. The fast paced, breakbeat style of production is not found on many rap records, which I found to be a very interesting take on the genre. But, the rappers aren't too talented delivery wise (both of them have very nasal voices) nor lyrically. I think everyone should listen to this, as it is only 5 minutes long, because it's a pretty cool switch from usual hip hop.
