I just feel underwhelmed and bored by a lot of these. This album is at its best when it’s catchy like with the singles.
The songwriting and vibe were great on just about every song, but there were parts of the track list that felt uninteresting and bland to me. I feel like on repeated listens I may warm up some to songs like voyager and today I give up but for now they are just kind of okay for me.
I really loved the singles (excluding blanket), my friend and the greys. ... read more
This is the Quadeca I like. All three of these tracks are great, the first two are some of the best of his entire career. That dark, glitchy, spacious production fits him so well and the songwriting is just phonemonal.
Both of these tracks have things about them I love, and they both have things about them I do not care for. The ending of u dont know me is amazing and actually put a smile on my face and the chorus and vibe of LA CARTE is great, I just think the melody they do with their voices kind of takes me out of it and I am not a fan of brakence's voice at all. I have come to realize neither of these songs have any replay value so I will probably never play them again, I hope I enjoy the other ... read more
Teenage angst in a hip hop/alternative rock bundle. So much nostalgia here for me and so many masterful songs. This is still his best album and I go back to it often. Yellow, Empty, Seventeen, Tattoo, American Boyfriend, Runner and Echo are some of the best songs in this genre and the soundtrack to the end of my teenage years. Fucking amazing album
Packed full of nostalgia, but when I revisit it a lot of these songs just feel like half baked ideas and don't really hold up. I still really enjoy parts of songs, like the chorus on baby boy or the beginning of use me, this album has very low replay value and has songs I will never revisit again such as crumble and boyer. There are many forgettable tracks here mixed in with a few amazing ones such as American Problem and Peach, which are some of Abstract's best ever. I have a softspot for this ... read more
This album has moved me and frightened me more than any horror movie or other piece of art this year. This feels like it transcends music, it takes me back to being a young boy in the middle of Texas sitting in a small fire and brimstone Baptist Chapel listening to these hymns lead by a piano with speaking in tongues, so much eerie passion and lyrics about jesus's blood. As an athiest now, it is nice to be able to feel those emotions again, she is singing with the core of her spirit and it is ... read more
There was so much cringe here I could hardly stand it. I have a soft spot for the first album so I was expecting to like at least something here: and I did.
I liked high again, journey of the one and the mt Everest speech moved me. But there were some of the worst songs I’ve heard all year here, like fysu. I actually ran to my girlfriend to show her how much cringe that song emits. It makes me wonder how their awareness can be so low.
I didn’t hate this album, there was serious ... read more
Edit- okay I lied. I didn’t listen to the extended mix. I finally did, and it blew the short tracks out of the water. It’s a different album entirely and maybe my favorite jam record of theirs.
Gizzard goes electro/synth pop (again)?
I was a huge fan of butterfly, and while I definitely think that album is over hated, this album is superior in almost every way.
This is more experimental, takes more risks, the synths and electronic instrumentation is so much more interesting and ... read more
Why is this so long? The title track and how u feel are amazing. I really love the rock-adjacent dreamy production on almost every song here. The problem is lonely. It works on individuals songs when there is a refrain that is catchy and the beat is a masterpiece, but it does not work for a whole album. I want to make it clear that a few of these tracks are 8-9+ to me; but the majority of this is just background music filler.
Which I guess it serves it’s purpose I’d it’s ... read more
Just a small sliver of the creativity, talent, that made brockhampon something special.
The outro and bling bling are the best ojes here, the Houston Texas influence was cool. A harsh reality though?
Everyone in BH other than Kevin is washesd up and will not have a successfull career
uninspired, bitter and boring. Glock 19 fucking slaps but it should’ve just been a single.
To this date; this is the most generic thing that has come out of Brockhanpton.
Absolutely mesmerizing.. everything about this is beautiful and left me in awe. These songs are powerful, smooth, catchy, consistent and positive.
The music looks exactly like the cover. Sampha heads in a sonic direction here that feels very futuristic and focused, the airy production and his razor sharp voice cut through everything else here and delivers his magnum opus.
An industrial, metal-inspired, art pop album from an artist I’ve loved since I was pretty young watching her on YouTube. I’ll start with the highlights, the best on the edm songs here was fun to listen to. It felt like it was going for an industrial sound, but it was almost too polished to the point of being bland on these tracks. But every time the percussion came in it saved me from the deep boredom u was in for the rest of this album.
The slower songs are boring, the writing is ... read more
Ive never been a big Brent fan. I went into this really wanting to like it, and I wasn’t disappointed. I liked the production on parts of this album a lot, the features all did well and Brent really had some swag on here that makes him entertaining to listen to.
But that’s really it. Nothing blew me away. Nothing was reallly good enough to ever make me want to play it again outside of the intro, which really threw me for a loop when I heard that boom hap beat and felt that bouncy ... read more
I liked this a lot when I was younger
Not as much as an adult, but there’s stil strong tracks here like nobody knows and stfu. The lyrics get cringey sometimes and I just cannot bare to sit through the slam poetry song, but it’s at least creative and it sounds like they really enjoyed making it.
Black bear was great in 2013 and his music has really taken the most generic and boring turn possible. Mike poster helps alleviate that here.
Some really cute moments and song ideas but I doubt I’ll ever listen again
Over hated, the best selection is amazing and there are some really great alternative/rock adjacent songs and vibes here
The lyrics are cringe, there’s no bite to the music, I hate hate hate the whiney sounding voice
They sound like they are operating at 30% of what they were in their prime. I hated the singles and I went into this hoping for some things I liked, but I felt so fatigued half way through. I think I’d rather listen to MGK than this
