Kill Bill: The Rapper - I THINK I FOUND THE END
92

Might be Kill Bill's best since Ramona. Love the almost ethereal take to Alchemist style production here. Lends itself well to Kill Bill's delivery style and feels quite refreshing contrasting it with some of his prior albums.

Fav tracks: Codeine, Kikaider, Patience, Joe pera, Appleseed, Animidnight, I dont write love songs, Parkers ferry, Integra, Joyce, Blue butterfly, Dr slump, Blue gender

Navy Blue - Sir Render
92

2 aoty contenders dropping on the same day is insane. Much like Vince, Navy drops an incredibly consistent project with the beautiful songwriting and jazzy production you expect from a project of his.

Fav tracks: Commencement, Baron, Sir render, Over, Reflections, Residuum, Crux ansata, Belladonna, Circa, If god had legs, Next life, The birth of medicine, Fear

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
94

Love to see Vince experimenting into a bit of a punk rock sound on this. Doesn't top Dark Times for me yet but on first few listens I think this is top 2 Vince quite handily. Loving the consistency

Fav tracks: All

Method Man - Tical
64

The only really notable Method Man solo album. Some good highlights but doesn't hold up as much as a full album listen comparatively to some other Wu solo classics

Fav tracks: Bring the pain, Meth vs chef

Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... Pt. II
58

Unfortunately very outdated sounding by the time of its release, a fact I find applies to a lot of Wu's mid-career projects

Fav tracks: New wu, Kiss the ring

Raekwon - The Emperor's New Clothes
85

Late career win for Rae

Fav tracks: Pomogranite, Wild corsicans, 1 life, The guy that plans it, Get outta here, Mac and lobster

Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...
69

Deserving of its classic status but not so much my taste production wise as far as 90's hip hop albums go

Fav tracks: Wu gambinos, Heaven and hell, Wisdom baby

Clipse - Til the Casket Drops
62

Inconsistent towards the latter half, holding this back from being good

Fav tracks: Freedom, Kinda like a big deal

Oneohtrix Point Never - Tranquilizer
83

Incredibly atmospheric. Not something id necessarily listen to on a day-to-day basis, but the ethereal vibe here is unmatched

Fav tracks: For residue, Bumpy, Modern lust, Fear of symmetry, Storm show, Waterfalls

Sweet Trip - Halica: Bliss Out v.11
91

Underappreciated album from Sweet Trip's catalogue, frankly my favorite of theirs

Fav tracks: All

Sweet Trip - You Will Never Know Why
86

Very well put together album. Though there's one or two tracks I'm not huge on the quality of the rest makes up for it, especially when listening to the album as a whole.

Fav tracks: Air supply, Conservation of two, Acting, Darkness, To the moon, Misfortunes are cruel, Your world is eternally complete, Pretending

Flying Lotus - Pattern+Grid World
82

A great early showing of FlyLo's insane ability to craft a unique soundscape

Fav tracks: Clay, Time vampires, Camera day

Flying Lotus - Flamagra
86

This could have been a near perfect album if it just had some of its fat trimmed. Or atleast it would have been better off had it been separated into two different albums rather than a conjoined one as it makes listening to it front to back a bit of a slog, even though most of the tracks here are of decent quality

Fav tracks: Heroes, Post requisite, More, Burning down the house, Spontaneous, Takahashi, Black balloons reprise, Inside your home, Andromeda, Remind u, Debbie is depressed, 9 ... read more

Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes
80

Feels a bit like leftovers from Cosmogramma unfortunately, though still good leftovers given the quality of that album. Theres certainly great foundation to a lot of these tracks but they just feel a bit unfinished compared to what they could have been

Fav tracks: All in, Getting there, Until the quiet comes, The nightcaller, Heaven, Me yesterday

Flying Lotus - Los Angeles
83

Very psychedelic though a tad bit boring as a full album listen

Fav tracks: Breathe, Camel, Comet course, Golden diva, Parisian goldfish, Sleepy dinosaur, Roberta flack

Flying Lotus - 1983
78

Certainly rough around the edges but thats partly some of the charm of this

Fav tracks: 1983, Bad actors, Orbit brazil

Genesis Owusu - REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE
81

Loving Genesis' consistency

Fav tracks: Stampede, Hellstar, The worldwide scourge, Blessed are the meek, Life keeps going

Genesis Owusu - STRUGGLER
81

A little rougher in execution compared to Smiling With No Teeth but this is still a great album

Fav tracks: The roach, Thats life, What comes will come, Leaving the light

Benny the Butcher - The Plugs I Met
91

Short but it has everything youd want in a Benny project

Fav tracks: All

Benny the Butcher - Burden of Proof
88

Prod top tier, rapping top tier, another Benny classic

Fav tracks: Burden of proof, Sly green, One way flight, New streets, Trade it all, Thank god i made it, War paint, Legend

On Wither's review of J. Cole - The Fall-Off
"@PostWither I guess I can see how it may come off as lazy. I personally find it fine though given art inherently comes from places of personal experience and perspective anyway, but i understand how it may appear to be dull, especially in the case of Cole who, frankly, has a rather uninteresting writing style at times."
On Wither's review of J. Cole - The Fall-Off
"I'm genuinely curious as to why you think he's rapping about nothing here. I do find Cole's writing to be rather on the nose quite often, but I feel like he took a more mature approach on this album comparatively to much of his prior work. Also, why the negative perspective on him rapping about his own experiences? That's a common feature of a majority of so-called conscious hip hop, not like its something new, unless that in it of itself is the reason you dislike it. Great review nontheless though, even if I personally disagree."

On Phoenix_wrong's review of Ice Cube - Man Up
"@Ableist_abby honestly that explains my thoughts perfectly. West Coast hip hop artists, atleast the mainstream ones, were never able to really evolve their sound and it just leads to all their projects sounding so dull compared to other regions. Especially so considering how washed lyrically a lot of them are now, like with Cube here. Luckily there's some amazing underground or underapreciated west coast artists that still keep that side of the genre alive, atleast aside from some of the more modern big names like Kendrick or Tyler. In their cases though they've obviously completely evolved passed the typical west Coast sound."
