Mach-Hommy - F.Y.I.
92

Super underrated. Easily amongst Mach' best

Fav tracks: Midrash, Newark, Breastmilk, Egypt, Sauer suite, Russian dolls, Gnarly dude, Solo dolo, Wheaties, Kinglish, Hardwired

Tha God Fahim & Mach-Hommy - Dollar Menu
61

One of Mach's worst projects but still not horrible

Fav tracks: Nardwuar

Tha God Fahim & Mach-Hommy - Dollar Menu 2
63

Feels mostly like leftovers from Mach's other 2017 drops

Fav tracks: Continental breakfast

Mach-Hommy - Dollar Menu 4
72

Pretty inconsistent but its still Mach and his mid is still quite good

Fav tracks: Shukran don, Rosewater

Kenny Mason - BULLDAWG
83

Honestly this took me by quite a surprise. I feel like Kenny finally managed to strike a great balance between the mix of genres he's been attempting on past albums. Here it sounds like he's reached a new level of polish in his sound and there's hardly any tracks here that aren't at least somewhat enjoyable. Still by no means a flawless project but atleast on the first few listens I'm thinking this is his best work thus far.

Fav tracks: Citgo, Door swangin, Junkyard ... read more

Action Bronson - PLANET FROG
92

Action dropping potential rap aoty contender. Some of Baklava's best work since Well Done. Love the almost psychadelic, rock inspired production on some of the tracks here on top of the typical luxurious jazz prod you expect on a Bronson album. Really gives this a different feel to most of his other releases, especially his 2020''s albums.

Fav tracks: Lebron hennessey, Olympic vince carter, Vhs, Triceratops, Peppers, Condor, Mandem, My blue heaven, Iguana, Chutney, Simone

JAY-Z - Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter
47

Much like its predecessor this doesn't particularly stand out in Jay'z catalogue, though this one significantly worse. Also wtf is that Things That You Do beat and why did anyone let that pass

Fav tracks: None

JAY-Z - Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life
58

One of a handful of unremarkable stepping stone albums between Reasonable doubt and the Blueprint. Has some moments but mostly quite bland

Fav tracks: A week ago

JAY-Z - The Dynasty: Roc La Familia
75

Pretty good albeit inconsistent

Fav tracks: Intro, This cant be life, 1 900 husler, Soon youll understand

NxWorries - Yes Lawd!
91

Yes lawd indeed

Fav tracks: Livvin, Wngs, Best one, What more can i say, Kutless, Lyk dis, Cant stop, Get bigger, Han, Scared money, Suede, Starlite, Link up, Another time, Fkku

NxWorries - WHY LAWD?
90

Paak and Knxwledge at their best

Fav tracks: 86sentra, Move on, Keep her, Distractions, Where i go, Daydreaming, From here, Fall thru, Battlefield, Here i am, Out the way, She used, More of it, Nvr rmx, Walk on by

Noname - Sundial
83

A bit of a quality step down considering her prior two projects but its not without its great moments.

Fav tracks: Black mirror, Hold me down, Namesake, Gospel, Oblivion

Noname - Room 25
91

A continuation of the positive vibes from her mixtape

Fav tracks: Self, Prayer song, Window, Dont forget about me, Regal, Montego bae, Ace, Part of me, With you, No name

Noname - Telefone
93

Sunny, positive, and concise. Feels like a lullaby in the best way possible

Fav tracks: All

Q-Tip - Kamaal the Abstract
83

Pretty solid all around. Not Q's best solo release but has a lot of worthwhile highs.

Fav tracks: Feelin, Blue girl, Even if it is so, Make it work

Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives
56

Another just fine Nas project. Gets a bit boring and same-y sounding after like the first 4 tracks. Luckily Nah mean is a pretty good break in the pace of the project and is the one song here worth revisiting

Fav tracks: Nah mean

Nas - Untitled
58

Underwhelming especially for a Nas project. Rhymes on point like always though

Fav tracks: Breathe

Nas - Street's Disciple
53

Pretty average

Fav tracks: War

Vince Staples - Prima Donna
61

A fun bridge project between Summertime and Big Fish but doesnt really do anything to warrant coming back to it

Fav tracks: Big time

Vince Staples - Hell Can Wait
66

Decent for an earlier Vince project

Fav tracks: 65 hunnid

On Wither's review of J. Cole - The Fall-Off
"@PostWither I guess I can see how it may come off as lazy. I personally find it fine though given art inherently comes from places of personal experience and perspective anyway, but i understand how it may appear to be dull, especially in the case of Cole who, frankly, has a rather uninteresting writing style at times."
On Wither's review of J. Cole - The Fall-Off
"I'm genuinely curious as to why you think he's rapping about nothing here. I do find Cole's writing to be rather on the nose quite often, but I feel like he took a more mature approach on this album comparatively to much of his prior work. Also, why the negative perspective on him rapping about his own experiences? That's a common feature of a majority of so-called conscious hip hop, not like its something new, unless that in it of itself is the reason you dislike it. Great review nontheless though, even if I personally disagree."

On Phoenix_wrong's review of Ice Cube - Man Up
"@Ableist_abby honestly that explains my thoughts perfectly. West Coast hip hop artists, atleast the mainstream ones, were never able to really evolve their sound and it just leads to all their projects sounding so dull compared to other regions. Especially so considering how washed lyrically a lot of them are now, like with Cube here. Luckily there's some amazing underground or underapreciated west coast artists that still keep that side of the genre alive, atleast aside from some of the more modern big names like Kendrick or Tyler. In their cases though they've obviously completely evolved passed the typical west Coast sound."
