Boring

Fav tracks: None

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - The Big Beat
89

Another fantastic Blakey & Messenger's album, though a bit inoffensive as far as Blakey's highly regarded works go. Felt myself wanting a little more on a few of these tracks, though its still a great album nontheless

Fav tracks: All

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - A Night in Tunisia
88

Not quite one of Blakey's best or most interesting, but a fantastic listen regardless

Fav tracks: Sincerely diana, So tired, Yama, Kozo'z waltz

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Mosaic
91

Probably the most rhythmically chaotic jazz record ive heard. The drum playing is fantastic.

Fav tracks: All

Art Blakey - Free for All
90

Seriously underappreciated jazz record

Fav tracks: Free for all, Hammer head, The core, Pensativa

Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers [Moanin']
94

Much deserving of the praise it gets. A quintessential jazz listen

Fav tracks: Moanin, Are you real, Along came betty, Blues march, Come rain or come shine, The drum thunder suite

Jean-Luc Ponty - Cosmic Messenger
93

Got intrigued by this cause of the fire cover art and the music luckily is just as fire. It's basically jazz in space. Quite the acid trip of an album

Fav tracks: All

George Benson - Breezin'
91

The quintessential summer album. Everything about this just has a warm feeling to it. A classic in my eyes

Fav tracks: Breezin, This masquerade, Six to four, Affirmation, So this is love, Lady

Dave Brubeck - Jazz Impressions of Japan
92

Such an interesting fusion of sounds as far as a jazz album goes. Not necessarily as groundbreaking as Time Out but when the music is performed this masterfully anyway, it doesnt need to be.

Fav tracks: Tokyo traffic, Tokis theme, The city is crying, Osaka blues, Koto song, Rising sun, Zen is when

Dave Brubeck - Time Out
94

The most jazz, jazz album youll ever hear. Ahead of its time (pun intended).

Fav tracks: Blue rondo, Strange meadow lark, Take five, 3 to get ready, Kathys waltz, Everybodys jumpin, Pick up sticks

Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
70

A bit of a disjointed follow up compared to Paul's Boutique, but there's bits of the quality you'd expect in a Beastie project

Fav tracks: Jimmy james, Finger lickin good, Pow, Professor booty

Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
87

This is up there with Paul's Boutique as their best album. Clean production for its time and like always has great energy from each member.

Fav tracks: Sure shot, Root down, Get it together, Sabrosa, Flute loop, Do it, Ricky's theme, The update, B boys makin with the freak freak, Bobo on the corner, Alright hear this, The scoop, Shambala, Transitions

Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty
81

May not be the Beastie's best project, but its definitely their most interesting and unique. Does run on the longer side than what I normally prefer in an album, but the highs on this are some of the bests in Beastie Boys' entire catalogue

Fav tracks: Intergalactic, Body movin, Just a test, Remote control, The move, The grasshopper unit, Electrify, Unite

Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
73

For being such an early era hip hop albums this still holds up really well. Has some of the best production as far as 80's hip hop albums go, and each members energy on this makes it that much better. It does still feel rough around the edges, but to an extent that gives it part of its charm

Fav tracks: Shes crafty, The new style, No sleep till brooklyn

Open Mike Eagle - Brick Body Kids Still Daydream
92

Man do i love abstract hip hop

Fav tracks: Legendary iron hood, Feel at home, Hymnal, No selling, Happy wasteland day, Daydreaming in the projects, Brick body complex, Tldr, 95 radios, My aunties building

MIKE - Beware of the Monkey
95

Mikes best for sure

Fav tracks: Nuthin i can do is wrng, As 4 me, Ezema, Light, No curse lifted, What do i do, Ipari park, Swoosh 23, Tapestry, Stop worry, Weary love, Concrete, Closing credits

MIKE - Burning Desire
94

Abstract hip hop at its finest

Fav tracks: Dembe, Zap, Snake charm, Plz dont cut my wings, U think maybe, Zombie, Set the mood, Billboards, 98, Do you believe, Burning desire, They dont stop, Baby jesus, Ho rizin, Mussel beach, Sixteens, What u say u are, Golden hour, Lets have a ball

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique
90

An oldschool classic. Such a fun listen

Fav tracks: Shake your rump, Johnny ryall, Egg man, The sounds of science, 3 minute rule, Hey ladies, Looking down the barrel, Car thief, What comes around, Shadrach

Joey Bada$$ - Summer Knights
95

Why are there so many fantastic albums not on streaming. It hurts

Fav tracks: All of them

Mos Def - The Ecstatic
88

Another album that needs to be on streaming services.

Fav tracks: The auditorium, Wahid, Priority, Pretty dancer, Workers comp, Revelations, Roses, History, Casa bey, Supermagic, Pistola

On Wither's review of J. Cole - The Fall-Off
"@PostWither I guess I can see how it may come off as lazy. I personally find it fine though given art inherently comes from places of personal experience and perspective anyway, but i understand how it may appear to be dull, especially in the case of Cole who, frankly, has a rather uninteresting writing style at times."
On Wither's review of J. Cole - The Fall-Off
"I'm genuinely curious as to why you think he's rapping about nothing here. I do find Cole's writing to be rather on the nose quite often, but I feel like he took a more mature approach on this album comparatively to much of his prior work. Also, why the negative perspective on him rapping about his own experiences? That's a common feature of a majority of so-called conscious hip hop, not like its something new, unless that in it of itself is the reason you dislike it. Great review nontheless though, even if I personally disagree."

On Phoenix_wrong's review of Ice Cube - Man Up
"@Ableist_abby honestly that explains my thoughts perfectly. West Coast hip hop artists, atleast the mainstream ones, were never able to really evolve their sound and it just leads to all their projects sounding so dull compared to other regions. Especially so considering how washed lyrically a lot of them are now, like with Cube here. Luckily there's some amazing underground or underapreciated west coast artists that still keep that side of the genre alive, atleast aside from some of the more modern big names like Kendrick or Tyler. In their cases though they've obviously completely evolved passed the typical west Coast sound."
