Just a very good time.
The medley is amazing, better than the first half in my opinion. I'm confused on how different my opinions on the track ratings to the user score are. I think I Want You is the weakest song, like, why is it so loved... it's a great track, but a 96?? Huh.
Something is godly, it really is, every component is just godly man.
The production here is also crazy good for 1969, everything is so clear and well recorded, like, how did we get from this to shitty 80s ... read more
This exceeded my expectations by quite a bit tbh. I think the newer Nektar isn't on par with the 70s output. But man, they still got it. I really need to go back to the newer Nektar stuff and listen to the albums more cause I think I'm underrating them a lot.
So, apparently this is the first album in a trilogy of albums, so I'm even more excited for the rest, cause this album slaps. My favourite track has to be Long Lost Sunday. It utilises its runtime really well, introduces ... read more
I can understand why this is often considered Nektar's best work. And there really aren't any flaws I can think of, it's just that there are two that do it even better. The opening epic is a journey. It's always a cycle of song, epic transition, song epic transition. It goes through many emotions, it's like a space Rock Remember the Future. The guitars roar, the bass growls the Hammond screams and the drums... the drum sound is pretty weak, tbh. Really spaced out. I ... read more
Bro really thinks he's Roye Albrighton ππ
After the departure of frontman and key member Roye Albrighton (only for one album), you would think the quality of this album would be noticeably worse than the classic 6 album before it with all founding members in the band. WRONG!!! (Loud incorrect buzzer)
This album grew on me big time, from 60 (First listen) to 73 (3-5 listens) to 84 and is now in my top 3 Nektar albums.
Firstly, shoutout to producer Jeff Kawalek, who makes the album ... read more
Thank you @realskrrtskrrt for the recommendation!
Tbh I did not think I would enjoy this project at all, cause I don't fw Hip Hop all that much. And while some songs didn't do much for me, were cheesy, or whatever, most of the songs I really liked. Also, I really like the psychedelic, gloomy atmosphere the album creates.
For a Pop Rap project (at least what I've heard thus far) the beats are really damn creative. My favourite two are those on the opener, the rythm is amazing, ... read more
So fucking underrated. 68? What are you thinking! It may not be a Remember the Future 2, but it's just very fun and there is nothing wrong with that!
Down to Earth sees Nektar venturing more into a commercial-oriented sound, there are 9 bite-sized, easy to digest songs. Some are very accessible, some others are more proggy, but all have the distinct Nektar sound I know and love. Also I like the introduction of brass instruments as a expansion of the before limited instrumentation of ... read more
I became obsessed with this album. I listened to it probably 10 times over the course of the last 2 weeks. For good reason!
I love the experimentation on here. Maybe it is even more experimental than Kid A. Sometimes songs get really weird like Pulk / Pull, but other songs like the opener are doing something different and execeuting it really well. I wish the album were a little more consistent, cause the first half, from the opener to Knives Out, is really fucking amazing (we're just ... read more
What a wonderful album.
It's just filled with joy and really fun to listen to.
Also it is really fucking consistent. No single one of the 21 tracks I would call even a single bit bad. But I don't think the highs stick out so much either. I think the best track on here is I Wish, although not by much. On the other hand, I think I am Singing has to be the weakest track, but still, comparable with every other track, which really speaks volumes about the consistency of this album. ... read more
First off, thank you for 200 followers! It means a lot to me. Also shoutout to those of you who like every single one of my reviews, you're all awesome.
As I'm back from my vacation, I will continue to re-review my favourite albums.
First, before reviewing the actual album, a little backstory:
So, some time when I was around 12/13 I tried getting into Led Zeppelin, and landed on this album. For some reason, it didn't click at all with me and I never bothered to relisten to it. ... read more
A trio powerhouse of three of the best musicians to ever be born. This album is a big playground for their technical abilities, but also a display of the band's songwriting skills. The first movement of the over a side long epic Karn Evil 9 is a great example of this, as there are plenty of stupendous technical moments, as well as beautiful passages and excellent melodies. On the other hand, on Toccata the band goes a little overboard concerning barely enjoyable moments, especially the ... read more
Man this album has grown off me big time
Sure, the album sounds way ahead of it's time, sure, the
production is really innovative, sure, Easy Money and the
closer are both amazing tracks, but on the other hand, some
parts of the opener feel really disjointed and out of place,
especially towards the end, and make for a too eclectic
sounding track. Book of Saturday is awesome. Exiles is a
weepy over the top ballad that tries to hard to be beautiful
and comes out really cheesy. Has its ... read more
What a great prog album.
We start things off directly with the incredible opener El Anillo del Capitan Beto. I really love the jangly guitars contrasting with the crisp and tight drum sound. I also like how the song often stays on that dissonant chord in the verses before resolving, it builds up tension in an otherwise chill track.
The next track starts and you directly notice the much more laid-back atmosphere. Although I don't understand spanish, the vocals convey much emotion to me. ... read more
A big step-down from the first two albums. The fun and life that drives the first albums is missing here and it feels lifeless at times. There are still highlights here, like the great Deadly Nightshade, which keeps you entertained throughout its extended runtime. There is a beautiful guitar driven section at the start and the end of the song and also a quirky keys driven part. I also like Earth Dance, which is just a fun track. Other than those two the rest of the tracks don't do very ... read more
After the departure of frontman and key band member Peter Gabriel, Genesis continues to put out great prog like nothing ever happened. The sound is nothing like The Lamb, but rather the classic whimsical folky prog Genesis is known for. The mixing is on point and I'm glad we hear so much of the guitar again after the keyboard-driven magnum opus of 1974.
We start things with the grand Dance on a Volcano that reminds me a little of Dancing with the Moonlit Knight. I love this song, every ... read more
While it isn't as great as their sophomore record, it shows the groups brilliance and distinctive sound.
I will count the first two tracks as one as they flow into another very smoothly and the intro is very short. It is a great track. I love the buildup at the beginning of Impressione di Settembre and especially the part where the tambourine joins in to form a nice folky groove. After that it goes into a chorus part with an epic synth riff. It's cool the first time but I think it ... read more
Though there are many amazing heartwrenching songs here, I think, a few tracks are a bit weaker here. For example, Good Will Hunting. I love the time signature changes and the part with the main riff, although I don't like that whiney part with the weird pop culture references. Also, Basketball Shoes is a little weak compared to the rest lf the tracklist and as a closing track, as it is a bit of a mess and the transitions to the different parts are a little underwhelming.
Now, these 2 are ... read more
This is a really depressing album, I have cried to this several times.
Daydreaming, Glass Eyes and True Love Waits are all utterly shattering, but also really beautiful. I love how they are all very simplistic, being mainly based on piano, but are able to convey so much emotion. I think Thom Yorke's floaty voice is a big part on why.
There are many more great tracks on here but I think the overall length is too long and could've been shorted down by cutting tracks like Tinker Tailor ... read more
Man I just love this album.
Sure, Roundabout is great, but Heart of the Sunrise is the real masterpirece of a track here. The highs on that thing are transcental.
I also love the short tracks here. Cans and Brahms, Five Per Cent for Nothing and Mood for a day are cool, but the other 3 are really great tracks. We Have Heaven has amazing harmonies, like, that shit is crazy. Long Distance Runaround is just such a great simple song and ends with a flawless transition into The Fish. Why did they ... read more
**I forgot to mention it in a review but thank y'all for 100 followers!**
I like tripping balls on hard psychedelic drugs so of course I'm gonna like this album!!!!!
Do you like tripping balls on hard psychedelic drugs too? Then you're gonna like this album as well!!!!!!!!!
I love this album. It is just the right amount of tripping balls music. There are 3 long Space Rock masterclass tracks, those being Master Builder, A Sprinkling of Clouds and The Isle of Everywhere. Though ... read more
I don't even know. This album is so beautiful, yet so shattering. So dark and so heavy, even if it doesn't step into Metal boundries. It is very forward thinking, progressive, and is its time so far ahead.
I would've given Red an even higher score if it were'nt for those two pesky little fuckers... No, I'm exaggerating. I'm talking about Red and Providence. For me, they are in the low 80's territory, in contrast to the rest of the tracklist. But I still think ... read more
