BTS - ARIRANG
29

Lacks real depth and enjoyability to me. So far, some people seem to really like it though.

Edge of Sanity - Crimson
89

Nice to see this is a must hear now. This is honestly the best death metal album of all time. Happy 30th to this.

NR

This is the best selling death metal album of all time, having gone an impressive double platinum. (Or 4x gold), meaning 2,000,000 copies sold.

The first two songs are the only ones really worth listening to. If anything, “Hammer Smashed Face” and “I Cum Blood” are actually nice, but the rest of this album is just not good.

Linkin Park - Meteora
81

I can’t be the only one who feels like a lot of LP fans bandwagon each other into saying this is their best album. Meteora is right on par with Hybrid Theory though, Linkin Park was definitely something special with those first two albums.

Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
82

I forgot how almost all of the songs on here sound besides the popular ones, even though this album basically defines nu-metal. Either way, I liked it more than I remember.

Atheist - Piece of Time
81

Atheist’s debut is like thrash and more raw compared to their other albums. Any OSDM fan should give this a try, but they definitely solidified a name for themselves with their sophomore album, which captures the space atmosphere they went for very nicely, and is far ahead of its time, even beating Death’s “Human” in my opinion. It creates an impressive sound other bands wouldn’t make something quite like for a while.

Shining - V - Halmstad (Niklas angående Niklas)
82

Far from perfect in more ways than I would personally count for good albums, but it honestly surprised me, especially the vocals, they surprised me but not in a good way.

I don’t think too highly of this kind of black metal, but this is pretty solid.

J. Cole - The Fall-Off
73

Inconsistent given its length, but honestly solid.

Charli xcx - Wuthering Heights
66

Pretty enjoyable new album from Charli XCX. The middle portion is a little bit bumpy, but at least the album cover, while weird, isn’t as strange as Sabrina Carpenter’s “Man’s Best Friend”.

AC/DC - Back in Black
81

It starts off very strong with “Hells Bells”, but the last few songs just don’t compete.

Ayreon - 01011001
83

I am kind of surprised to see there is only 1 review for the most popular Ayreon album. I had only heard the first song for quite a while, but I actually liked it more as I heard a few more tracks, if not just LP 1 in general, which normally I would not say. I feel like this album isn't harmed as much by the 2LP, nearly two hour bloat of itself that Ayreon likes doing. I might say it's actually a benefit for this album. Just remove track 11 and you're solid.

Ayreon has slowly ... read more

Mayhem - Liturgy of Death
66

New Mayhem album before GTA VI?

The album is decent, but it's definitely my first time hearing Mayhem with production like this. Especially grandiose.

I feel like this album is all dark no bite, but that doesn't really harm it too much. It's about as good as I would've expected.

Mayhem - De mysteriis dom Sathanas
83

Polarizing album, but honestly, I think it is pretty solid. All things said though, I agree those vocals are just weird.

Dissection - The Somberlain
84

There is really nobody truly adjacent to Dissection. For their first album here, they went full-on with the black metal approach instead of being a death metal band and mixing their sound with it, which I think is good, seeing as what they were able to accomplish, besides the murder and eventual suicide of their frontman, but this album is great.

Those riffs are just really good.

TOOL - Undertow
79

Imagine listening to almost exclusively Tool while climbing one of the world’s tallest buildings. Dude is insane.

Dissection - Into Infinite Obscurity
NR

Just a few minutes after writing the review for their first demo EP, this one is much better. Their sound is combined with black metal unlike the last one, which was strictly death metal.

NR

Seeing as Dissection’s discography is pretty small, I gave this a listen.

Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon
76

Ok, I feel they took the "symphonic" element too far with this one. They had a good balance of it on Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, but this album did surprise me with it a bit. I just personally don't think it fits too well, despite them doing it well in 2001.

For those who like this album, I can definitely see why. Their sound on here is great, if not captivating. They almost kind of reverted it, which I think is good because what they did on their previous aforementioned ... read more

A$AP Rocky - Don't Be Dumb
66

Not bad, but far too much time was lost without mew music. The album cover is the same as what people thought it would be, but with some drawings on it.

I have not heard the 2018 album yet, so I would say this definitely has to be his worst album to date. I understand the hype, but I feel like I got hyped myself for less than I expected.

Megadeth - Megadeth
55

Giving this some relistens makes it much easier to understand why people hate it so much. It's honestly painful to replay the songs.

I get to be one of the earliest in the world to hear this, since I am in the USA west coast, normally this releases at 12:00. Currently this released at 9:00 PM.

I haven’t heard too much modern day Megadeth, so this is definitely a new experience for me. I can’t say I don’t enjoy this album, I’ve heard most of their 80’s to ... read more

"Just came back to this album today. I'm not a big black metal consumer, but I've been listening to it a lot recently. Surprisingly, this might not even be the best "DSBM" album of the year, since Shining's "V. Halmstad" is a close competitor."

On lilyth's review of GRIM - The Death of a Capulet
"I think it’s a glitch that it showed up on Death’s profile because this happens to other small artists when somebody has the same name as them (although death is really not that small) For example, if you check death metal band Pestilence on spotify they have a single listed as their lastest release which is not even theirs."
On SotisGaze's review of Testament - The New Order
"Btw, idk if you have listened to Testament’s debut album, The Legacy, which I think is their best album. I would also recommend The Gathering, my second favorite. Maybe just as an honorable mention, as well, Practice What You Preach is pretty good. For a review you left on Cynic’s “Ascension Codes”, I would recommend their debut album, Focus, which is very ahead of its time."

On chaz's review of Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
"Bro let people rate by their opinion lmao. To me though, this actually deserves higher than an 82, especially for its influence on death metal. Sometimes just the music is not everything. Otherwise this album tends to be overrated by fans. On metalstorm.net (much better than aoty for metal fans, since users on there know way more.) this is the 82nd highest rated metal album of all time, rated an 8.84/10. What glaze."
