Whilst this album has the occasional song I like such as Box Elder or Summer Babe, the vast majority of songs on this album feel like musical vignettes or demos rather than fully fleshed out songs resulting in a situation where some songs leave no impression whatsoever or end before they pick up full steam
Overall not an essential Pavement album and would only recommend for a Pavement mega fan
The last Pavement album and only one with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich unfornutately left me a bit let down after the previous album, Brighten the corners. the album starts off as all Pavement do with a very great opening song in Spit On A Stranger. The problem with this album however can not be identified in one or a few bad soongs, the problem is how sonically undiverse it is, whilst this album embraces the more country aspects of the band in songs like the next one on the album Folk Jam, ... read more
Coming into this as I am slowly making my way through the pavement catalogue was such a treat. Pavement knows how to open each album with a great song every time and this is no exception as Stereo contains some of the most fun lyrics from pavement in their discography. This is then followed up by Shady Lane, another great song in the pavement catalogue with an unforgettable and infectous guitar part. Other standouts include Embassy Row and Blue Haiwaiin, the latter of which has to be the most ... read more
The third pavement album after Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain honestly starts off incredibly well the first three tracks I really enjoyed , seemingly classic pavement, the fourth track feels a fair bit weaker than the first three but this is soon rectified by grounded which is one of my favourite pavement songs and one of my favourites from this album.
The problem with this album has is it’s a bit of a mixed bag both quality wise and stylistic. The next song serpentine pad feels an unneeded ... read more
On this album Bon Iver manages to merge the sounds of his more early folkier albums with his more recent electronic albums to create a really beautiful album. Overall would recommend
Listening to this for the first time ever and after already hearing slanted and enchanted a lot was a very pleasant experience. The band as a whole sounds a lot more cohesive and thus the album as well. It brings you into the album with the very special silence kit which fills you with hope whilst also creating a sense of nostalgia for the past. The album as a whole takes you on a more cohesive journey than the first album lulling you into which gentler sounds before the album hits you with ... read more
Very enjoyable and laid back album with a nice diverse track list that evokes different emotions on the listener. Standouts include Zurich is stained, summer babe and in the mouth a desert. I don’t think as an album it’s quite as cohesive as it could be and I think it has a weaker ending to the album than one would hope for. Overall would recommend
An album with undeniable smooth production. Unique blend of psychedelic instrumentals whilst maintaining a relaxing yet sparse atmosphere. Very emotionally moving in particular songs like funny papers . I think the album could be a bit more cohesive and the song transformations feels like a particular weak spot
Rest in peace Mac miller
