After First Impression which I found to be completely unconvincing and Angles which was too tepid, I think the strokes come back in a big way on this album. burrowing down the rabbit hole even more into New Wave and Synth Rock sounds that were found on angles however I think to much more success
The first half of this album I find to be pretty great, Tap Out is a pretty fun and catchy song. One Way Trigger has really grown on me over the years when I first heard it many years ago I really did ... read more
I think for a lot of Kinks Fans this is either the album before their legendary run or the beginning of a great run for the Kinks however since I have not heard the albums what come after this I cannot comment on this however for what is here I think you will find a pretty enjoyable baroque psychedelic rock album with some great tracks in the mix.
I think the track-list on this album is pretty strong with some great tracks such as End Of the Season, Lazy Old sun,David Watts, Death of A Clown ... read more
Whilst not the weakest point in their discography at this time, that would be the entry before this, I do think this to be the most tepid entry in their discography at the time this came out.
I think First Impressions whilst not being a good album, makes sense in their context of their discography up to that point, coming off the back up a sophomore album than many people at the time felt failed to live up to the debut. The third album went bigger being longer than the first two album and tried ... read more
The strokes third album came after the now really well liked Room On Fire however as the time of that albums release a lot of critics found it to be a bit too similiar to the debut Is This it?. Whilst now I think myself and most founds love both of the first two albums since it wasn’t quite as well loved at the time, it left an interesting conundrum for the strokes on which direction they wanted to go with on their third album
The resulting decision was to make the album significantly ... read more
Definitely a guilty pleasure, I think the contrarian in me just loves the fact the song Spaceman misled people with the sound they thought they were getting when it originally came out l, almost reminds me of MGS 2.
The lyrics on this album are so overly edgy and 90s sounding, it’s so over the top I love it. I think the lyrics think they’re a lot more profound than they are in a distinctly 90s way and start to border on parody Nine a inch Nails that to me they’re hilarious ... read more
I think potentially my favourite of the three Portishead studio albums, whilst the sophomore saw the sound of the debut expanding the bands Trip Hop sounds to be a deeply atmospheric and unnerving almost noir movie in feel of an album, this album feels almost mechanical and crushing in the way it adapts the bands sound
It also has some of my favorite Portishead songs, Silence is a deeply unsettling album opener, Hunter carries on in the same directions whilst starting to introduce the ... read more
I will admit I don’t think I had the ideal listening experience with this. I have heard this album three times in full now however I have never really heard a cure album before, just the big hits. So after hearing the album, it sounds to me like a pretty weird meta commentary album where the album feels like it’s almost summing up where the cure is now after such a lengthy career and it feels like a self examination of an album which obviously is somewhat lost on me as I ... read more
The third studio album by the Smiths and I think in what a lot of people eyes is considered their magnum opus and it’s not hard to see why. A tracklist that is just filled to the brim with immortal and undying hits such as There Is a Light that Never Goes Out, Bigmouth Strikes Again and I Know It’s over, the latter being in my opinion one of the best, if not the best ballad of The Smiths career with an amazing vocal performance from Morrissey. This album I think is more consistent ... read more

Acclaimed album post Berlin potentially , I have always been very fond of this album ever since I found it in a used record store when I was a teenager and it’s definitely up there with my favourites of his solo material
I think the biggest drawback of this album is arguably its undynamic nature. A lot of the song on this sound quite similar and it never veers from his lane however I think it makes up for this in sheer track ... read more
The this Joni Mitchell album I have heard at this point and the best so far. A deeply consistent singer songwriter album with many great tracks. It starts off really well with the song All I want which is a terrific album opener, which I think is one of the stronger songs on this album and one of the stronger songs of her discography I’ve heard up until this point and with the hook being very memorable. I really love the follow up track My Old Man which has a great vocal performance. ... read more
A pretty enjoyable album by Depeche mode, after not hearing much of them apart from the big hits which everyone’s heard, I did quite enjoy this album. It was very atmospheric and a lot more downtempo and slow than I expected. Songs like The Bottom Line, Barrel Of a Gun, Home, It’s No Good really stood out as highlights.
I think the album gets a bit repetitive after a while with the ballads, it’s definitely somewhat bloated and at times feels like it meanders a bit too much ... read more
This album I thought was quite disappointing. To be honest I’m pretty unfamiliar with Phair’s catalogue. The only songs I’ve ever heard is weirdly enough a handful of alongside from her album Funstyle and seeing this for cheap on cd at a second hand store I thought I would pick it up and take a listen. This to me sounds like an accumulation of ideas and demos that Liz Phair had but never truly fleshed out and just put onto one album. The album feels quite one note, a lot of ... read more
I got this for very cheap from a used record store, after really enjoying his earlier album What Colour is Love? I went into this with pretty low expectations as it comes quite late in his career and I had never heard of this album before however it surprised me in a very pleasant way, being a great listen. For an album that clocks in at around an hour this album flew by for me with every song being pretty good. It’s a lot more simple than his earlier albums being a pretty forward soul ... read more
After listening to all the essential smiths albums I thought I would check out the new Morrissey solo album, more so out of ironic curiosity than anything. I heard Makeup Is a lie and Notre Dame before the album released and I thought the former was so bad it’s mildly funny and the latter was one of the worst songs I’ve heard.
This albums constantly oscillates between being so bad it’s hilarious with the title track and being so absolutely terrible it’s baffling that ... read more
The follow up to The Smiths Debut showed that they were capable of future success. I think the performances and production on this album is probably stronger than it is on the debut as they had longer time to record this album however I don’t think the song craftsmanship is quite as good and therefore the songs on the debut feel a bit more remarkable however still a great album and follows in the same vein as the debut
There are a lot of standouts on the track list the opening track, The ... read more
I know it’s a compilation album but in my opinion this is the definitive Smiths album. A band defined by the ability to make hit after hit, it would make sense that the album that manages to capture the essence of who they are as a band would be a compilation album cramped with hit after hit.
The tracklist on this album is just simply amazing. The album opener shows just how special of a band The smiths really were, a non studio album song being one of the best song of a bands career is ... read more
The starting place for The Smiths and the birth of their dynamism between their jangle pop sound, mixed with Morrissey’s distinct voice and his witty, tongue in cheeks lyrics. Also noted for it’s very difficult record sessions, produced by Troy Tate originally and recorded during a heat wave and in a basement, Johnny Marr would go on to say this made recording the album quite difficult. This version of the album late got re done by another producer,John Porter, and re recorded, In ... read more
A lot of people label this as the worst Bowie album of his magnificent 70s run and whilst this seems somewhat harsh, with it being a covers album to tide fans over during the wait between album. It’s also not an entirely unwarranted critique. The album is largely very forgettable. Sorrow feels like the only significant song I could see myself worrying about, the rest of the tracks fall into the enjoyable category like Here comes the night, or the much more populated category of very ... read more
By Storm were obviously created through the tragic passing of Groggs, a vital part of the previous trio Injury reserve who helped them make some amazing albums and songs, Superman That from the posthumous album after his passing being one of my favourite songs of all time and the self titled debut album, I loved a lot of the songs from. Therefore I was coming into this hoping to absolutely love it and I do think it’s definitely a good album however I don’t think for me this is the ... read more
I think this is an album I learn to appreciate more and more with every listen as I get older. I think this album has all its beauty in its simplicity, it’s a fairly straightforward album, being a pretty simple album, clocking in at just 28 minutes and featuring almost exclusively acoustic guitar and just nick Drake’s voice. Despite this short length, the album feels a lot longer, it really gives you the experiencing of having listened to a long journey through album in a very short ... read more
