Godsmack end their career with this album, with a pretty cool album cover. So, do they go out with a bang?
I think the answer after listening to this is a resounding no.
Again, it's the same thoughts I have after hearing When Legends Rise, but this album doesn't have a Bulletproof, so it's pretty much all generic rock songs. None are bad, but none stand out either.
Goodbye Godsmack!
I think there aren't any "bad" songs on this album, it's by far my favorite Godsmack record for sure, but nothing other than Bulletproof stands out for me. It's a good album as generic as it is, but its reluctance to break formula and produce anything memorable keeps it average for me.
There are tracks like Divide and Leverage that I feel nothing from, especially Divide since it's four minute of repetitive riffs, but other tracks like Unsaid and Collide really blow my mind that they're on a debut album from a high school band instead of spinning on the radio.
I keep seeing people saying this album is generic, but it really isn't. Some songs do follow the formula but they are very creative and innovative in how they go about that. This album is awesome
This EP really isn't it for me. Very generic with very few standout moments. "Dante" is quite good however.
I think this album is good. This is a journey through the minds of very creative and talented musicians and the product is delivered with a punchy high-gloss finish. The only complaints I really have with this album is the end of songs like Echoes and Sacrifice that is 1 to 2 minutes of ambience that barely transitions into the next track.
EDIT: 78 --> 99.
This is probably almost on par with P5 as my 2023 album of the year. This is an absolute masterpiece. Only reason I gave it a 99 and not ... read more
Banger record. Pearl Jam still going strong after all these years, and Setting Sun is an incredible track.
The million hits at the end are representative of me smashing my head against the brick wall to this
