there are a few duds on this one but god the good ones are so fun to belt out- have always thought it was a bit underrated
Lush instrumentals, great guitar tones, and witty lyrics are the highlights of this somewhat Pulpesque record
first listen 3/12/2025: definitely need to relisten to this to get into the intricacies of the lyrics which, of course, is Joni's biggest strength but on first listen I really liked the jazziness of the record!
revisit- starts so strongly but slips into the forgettable. nonetheless, still essential early 2010s pop
First listen 2/12/2025. surprised at how much I loved this. obviously the vocals aren't great but there is a charm to them, and the fantastic songwriting and instrumentals make up for it. truly an underrated gem
first listen 2/12/2025- will definitely need a relisten but really enjoyed this
really great but god sometimes is horrible- really quite jarring in how bad it is compared to the rest of the album
revisit 80->78. there are some real strokes of genius on here but its not quite as fully formed as is the popular consensus on here- but the potential is there to make a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to what comes next
first listen 1/12/2025. quite top heavy but considering the first six songs as good as they are... it makes sense. an outstanding debut.
