i don't have much exposure to the darkwave genre, but i enjoyed how textured and well-mixed the songs were. didn't have the vocal gratiness of artemas's hit song 'i like the way you kiss me', and is quite experimental. cool singles, his new mixtape is definitely going to be under my radar. dont sleep on him guys
the standout moments on the album get suppressed by the same, annoying ass soft pop-rock trend that jack antonoff has been infesting into the pop mainstream as of late. also some of the lyrics on this thing are putrid

doesn't have the same grandeur or maximalistic ambitions as their other projects, but still an immensely cohesive and enjoyable album
second sleep: top 2-3 soty what the shit i heard the live performance already but the studio vers is so clean
star eyes: has some very nice orchestra bits its really good but second sleep holy shit that song omg

a magical experience only brought down upon the more beautiful renditions in their live performance (sometimes)
if the vocals were mixed a little better and the instrumentals hit a little harder though
this album is insane. it goes all out on all fronts. needs an avant-garde tag or something.
the part of the chorus where she says "I wanna cut to the feeling, oh yeah" is a little jarring but everything else is so peak

"as an abstract hip hop album, there really is no narrative. it's a snapshot of many different ideas into an amalgation of an album. there is no definitive or unifying factor that ties this album together.
as for the lyricism, i'm not sure if you paid attention to the whole thing. sure, some songs touch upon common ground for many topics adjacent to many other hip hop records. i'll give you that. but saying that the wordplay and lyricism is average? come on. if you search up any video highlighting all his rhyme schemes on any song, you would see how insane they really are. plus there are so many witty one-liners
