Just based on the critic reviews, a pretty overrated album. The singles FEEL like singles, except In God’s Country; pretty meh song. I do like how the album ends. I think there’s enough here to make you invested in the band, but I don’t think it’s groundbreaking.
I listened to this album and went “oh my god it’s good.” Thank you for reading.
Essentially a nearly perfect pop album. At least 3/4 of this album is a Tears For Fears greatest hits catalogue. Shout, fucking incredible. The Working Hour, I’d argue as strong as a song as Head Over Heels, if not for the LaLaLa therapeutic ending. Everybody Wants To Rule The World… probably one of the greatest songs of the 80’s, at the very least, decade defining. Yeah this album rules.
Some real goodies on here; really love songs like Pride, Whatever, and Turn On The News. It’s just a bit long.
This is like a 7.5 album without the two big singles, BUT I have to consider how much I love those two songs and especially especially Space Age Love Song.
Longest review I’ve done:
There’s a lot of awesome things in this record. By far, my favorite album Jack Antonoff has produced and easily Lorde’s best album emotionally. There’s some songs that have high ratings on this website where I’m like, “You guys really think The Lourve is only two point scores lower than Perfect Places, arguably the best song on the record?” The two strong moments for me that highlight this album as so strong are; Perfect Places ... read more
Great voice; there’s some cool stuff here, I think Black Friday the song, despite the… we’ll say Creep-y influence, is a beautiful song. If we’re gonna do the “5 songs that sound very similar to each other” bit, at least it’s not 40 minutes? The End is a very nice song too.
Bros, undisputed classic song. Swallowtail is super underrated. Great great debut album. Heavier than I anticipated but a very welcome surprise.
A flat 80 feels fair. There’s some really great heavy moments on songs like Details Matter, Talking Heads, and Vultures. Bloodline has probably the strongest chorus, though 4D is also very good. A lot of the other songs feel very… not necessarily paint by the numbers, but they feel like flyover states, like does it fit the theme of the record? Sure. Do they all feel needed? Not entirely, I do like Paradigm’s chorus/hook, but that’s the best compliment I can give about ... read more
Tyler Joseph and Paul Meany once again work their production magic. Beautiful song.
Just an overall consistent album, lots of great instrumental moments; really love that tv off beat change, the man at the garden’s final moments, wacced out murals is such a strong intro for this album, sza sounds really good. Great surprise release.
You have a very good heartfelt record with nice grooves and nice orchestral elements… and then there’s the title track Mahashmashana… absolutely beautiful song. Clear 100/100 song. My goodness.
Cute album. Sam Beam’s got a very palatable and soothing voice and when he lets the instrumental breathe, it makes you feel rewarded when his voice returns. Really dig Carousel and Resurrection Fern.
I don’t know with a billion streamed song I expected more, it’s your typical indie pop without the strong choruses. It’s the musical equivalent of a solid blueprint with mediocre execution. Nothing was entirely exciting, but I wouldn’t outright say bad. Wallpaper music for sure.
87 —-> 89, On Your Side has such a beautiful chorus.
Surprised the user score is so low; I think this is a very strong debut album. Love this mix of modern pop sensibilities with the Queen, Pink Floyd inspired arena grandiose undertones, I can’t even really call it undertones, it’s very much there. Burn Alive, The Feminine Urge, and On Your Side are all clear hits. The album I’d say ends pretty strong as well.
