Clairo’s song writing is something that has really stuck out for me on her past projects and I think this album not only maintains a cohesively written theme but it also maintains a soundscape that fits within one realm while still differing enough to not become bored. By incorporating jazz and funk elements she offers this elevated take on her previous “bedroom pop” work. I think it all works so well and a couple of the songs on this album are among my favourite of the year.
Despite having some phenomenal tracks and being an overall wonderful album experience, the difference between this album and blonde is that there are a couple of straight up misses on channel orange. I like vibes and the soundscape of Blonde and consider it a more cohesive piece whereas channel orange feels like a collage of wonderful things that seems like it was put together lacking the consideration of other projects Frank has released. Regardless please come back home Frank the kids miss ... read more
Was very pleasantly surprised by this project. Been getting into Gucci a lot more recently and this album definitely contains some great verses from him but the highlight is B.G, a perfect mix of cutthroat bars and iconic flows that left me nostalgic for the trap era they come from. Highly recommend a listen to anyone, it may not be perfect all the way through but there’s definitely takeaway tracks.
Although the creative vision is there, at the end of the day this album is just a gimmick. It works well a couple times and that’s all it needs to do.
The hits on this track list rise far above the filler songs but unfortunately there’s more fillers than hits. 21 just doesn’t have the cadence or incredible bars to thrive on mediocre beats. With a good beat he can work magic though.
J Cole needs to stop leaving his bag. That does not mean he doesn’t have to be creative or innovative. That doesn’t mean he shouldn’t explore more styles, but the reason he gets called corny is because for every great, introspective track where he raps his ass off, there’s some corny ass shit that doesn’t belong on this album. That being said, this album has classics and the opening 4 song run is amazing.
It feels like Don really debuted with so much potential and is cementing himself in the game as a reliable artist that drops consistently good music but he just hasn’t had his big break out. This is about as close as he’s gotten and I’m still excited for any new Don music.
Though it doesn’t feel as personal as his first full length LP. This one shows his improvement technically by a lot. There’s a good mix of emotional and introspective tracks, and laid back tracks. If Mavi can link up with a talented producer and really lock in he could be one of the best rappers of the next gen.
I know this isn’t a genre or anything, but cartoon themed villain rap with creative chops and loops can only be done by these 2. No one else could make Madvillainy. No one should try. Some songs kind of sit to the side and there’s not a real through line in the album but it’s still an amazing and surprisingly concise listen.
Surprisingly solid album. An enjoyable listen from an artist that is a little one note. Obviously the content of the songs never changed but the energy and talent that X has is apparent. A handful of forgettable tracks and some good ones are the focus though.
Larry June is a really cool artist but I can’t lie, it’s his performances that lose me on this project. However the features and production make up for it. The vibes are immaculate and it’s an immersive experience filled with luxury.
Why review the new Cure album when I can listen to this one. A hit parade of an album that loses some originality as it goes on. There are a mix of classics and some songs that aren’t inherently bad but just end up being forgotten to me. So sadly it suffers the fate of a pretty good but not great album experience.
I think Mavi is such an interesting artist. He’s an amazing storyteller and reminds me so much of Earl or even Joey Bada$$. This album isn’t perfect in any sense but it shows signs of how talented Mavi really is. As an experience I liked it but didn’t love it. It was over before it really started for me and most of my enjoyment came from a handful of songs I picked out.
I know this is such a nitpick but something about this makes me refrain from calling it truly perfect. It’s about as close to perfect that close to perfect can get I’ll say that. The greatest debut album of all time, peak Kanye at a point in time where you couldn’t name any producer on his level when it came to chopping soul. Some of the greatest rap verses not only of Kanye’s career but in the history of hip hop. You can’t ask for much more from this album.
The Strokes have carved out a niche subsection of music that seems to hop in and out of genres often. Is This It is easily their most consistent record and is filled with good to amazing songs. If anything a few more tracks would’ve benefited this album. The sonic pioneering this album contains is undeniable but at the end of the day my personal enjoyment wasn’t crazy. I still handpicked a few tracks I thought were spectacular though.
Unironically an amazing project. I know that tiktok soured it on some people but I geniunely think this album is great. The R&B and Neo Soul elements work so well with Steve’s voice and vibe. The songwriting is a huge improvement from his last few projects as well. It’s concise and a really enjoyable listening experience. I’m proud to say I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this album.
A pretty good add on to an album mostly comprised of filler. To be clear though, this is a review of the 9 new tracks which I honestly enjoyed more than I thought I would. The lyricism could use work but the production is another step forward for Yeat and is a fun and welcome addition.
Starts off solid with Chapters then goes far downhill. I promise I don’t hate UK drill but what central cee was doing around this time I just didn’t enjoy. I do think he matured quite a bit and his collabs w Dave and Lil Baby are much better than this stale EP.
