The Cocteau Twins and their weird little language are so enjoyable but at the end of the day their songs somewhat blend together. Apart from the true masterpieces they’ve made, the large majority of their material is just really good, but doesn’t stand out in any particular way. That isn’t to take away from this album but it is the one flaw I could find during this listen.
Goblin is such a confusing album. The lyrics never bothered me too much but the main problem is how contradicting the album is. I listen to the production on transylvania or fish and it sounds like a 12 year old made it in 3 minutes. Then I listen to She, Her, Analog, AU79, and I’m perplexed how the same guy made the same songs. I will always love Tyler and he is my favourite artist of all time. This project is raw and filled with flaws but is full of personality and talent.
Following up Pray for Paris is a tough task but once again, Gunn comes in with great production, A solid selection of features, and a fun album with some great take away tracks. It is somewhat choppy with great songs being squashed in between two mediocre songs.
A waste of decent production. The mixing and the quality of the vocals is geniunely unlistenable. If these tracks were instrumental they would be better. The sampling is so cool and then is absolutely wasted.
Billie is dominating the pop scene and coming out with, in my opinion. Her best album yet, she’s able to showcase so much of the raw talent we’ve seen on previous records, while also making a complete album that doesn’t wrong too long, in fact I wish there was more. She is able to reach across the aisle and do justice to so many genres, while still finding her catchy pop hits. I think it’s great. I think Billie’s song writing has come so far and still has room to ... read more
A pretty boring EP that just fades into the background of Monte Bookers work. He’s a great producer that’s done some great stuff with contemporaries but on his own his instrumentals don’t offer anything incredible. Just a meh overall.
Perfection. My 2nd ever 100 on an album and this one is both personal and technical. My favorite hip hop album of all time. Some of the best beats of this century, lyricism on a whole other level. A perfect mix of everything I love about Jay-Z and a flawless album.
As talented of a singer Frank Sinatra is, during his later works his writing seems quite plain and doesn’t draw me in like his earlier stuff does. There are some amazing melodies and catchy songs on this project and it’s obviously technically great, it just has less of a personality than his other projects.
I think this is my favourite Off Future Era. In a 2 year span we got channel orange, doris, wolf, Feel Good by the Internet which I consider OF. Doris is not my favourite of these projects but it’s a super enjoyable listen with so many fun tracks. The mood is murky and grimy and fits the beat selection and Earls rapping perfectly. The features are great too. It’s missing that 1 defining song in my opinion and does have some more boring cuts in the back half that I’ll skip ... read more
CEO Trayle, I found off tiktok I won’t lie. But years past his success this album still holds up a little. It’s a cool mixtape and showcases Trayles strengths well. With more substances and differentiating beats it would be a lot better. His menacing tone is great but it’s over a similar beat every time. I think Alter Ego was a risk that paid off and I really like that song.
Missing that energy and raw lyricism that Keem would later find on the melodic blue. Some great takeaway tracks but not fully worth it as a project. However this was definitely a sign of what was to come.
Who doesn’t love a good old white guy talking his shit about his deep river blues. Doc Watson is such an incredible guitar player that it’s really a shame that his lyrics lack a lot of substance. The listen drones on a slight bit but is definitely still worth it if you’re into that folk, blues music.
This isn’t close to the best Stones album and the 60s as an era brought so many hits. However this is still a pretty good album with some bangers and some duds. The songwriting makes and breaks this album. Sometimes great, sometimes just weird, but it was still a fun listen and Beast Of Burden is such a good song.
I ain’t a huge Future fan and 808 Mafia ain’t a production crew I’m too familiar with. But going into this short album I was expecting a quick listen with simple trap songs but honestly this is a big step up from a lot of Futures other work. The production is great and apart from a couple songs Future is able to provide not only catchy hooks but also good ass verses. It’s still a little short and some songs do fit in that simple trap bag that just doesn’t work for ... read more
This album shows an introspective side of freddie that I don’t fully mind. It’s when he tries to make these trap bangers with features like offset and moneybagg yo. That’s when this album falls flat. Lobster Omelette is on the same level as Scottie Beam and Pusha T, Raekwon and Kelly Price are all solid features. A step down from alfredo but still a fun album with great rapping and vivid storytelling from kaine himself.
I’ve been really sick for like a week but I got the energy to listen through this JID album. I could talk a lot about JID and the Forevery Story but in simplest terms it’s an examples of a really great rap album. I think JID might be the best rapper rapping rn and he shows it all over this album. Super fun listen with a song for everyone.
This isn’t my favourite Jay Z project but I think that it’s undeniable that from this point to 2002 Jay Z was the most dominant rapper in the game. It’s crazy that on his first full length LP he could put together a composition like this. We all know Jay Z can wrap but on Reasonable Doubt he’s working with amazing beats, creating catchy hooks, and putting it all in a pretty concise run time. Some songs fall a little short in comparison to the rest but this is a hip hop ... read more
Hands up if you suck. It put its hand up. Bad news when you got two good songs on your project and you just riding off the hype of your old stuff. Womp Womp
Best thing I can say about this is that it’s a compact vibe. Not a terrible listen but very skin and bones with no lyrics or hooks of substance to me. Planet Giza is an interesting group tho and I’ll for sure take a look at them again.
