Been a fan of James for quite a bit and he’s back again with an incredible single. I was slightly nervous when I heard the live acoustic version but man is this groovy
The supposed start of a downward trend for Bowie
This may be my hottest take listening to Bowie so far
Are yall ears broken or something cause wtf this is not bad at all I would even say this is good. The opener is incredible it has probably some of his best messaging about the problems with religion and the production uplifts that. I mean the mix of soul and pop done so well I was convinced I was listening to the wrong album because it can’t have this user score. Sure Bowie isn’t ... read more
Definitely his most pop adjacent album so far I mean it starts off with a funky gospel song and it’s honestly one of my favorites. Although ‘china girl’ has the creepiest lyrics a Bowie song has had I desperately wish I could look past it because it’s got a stunning instrumental. Now ‘let’s dance’ is one of his most catchiest songs it’s pop perfection in my opinion. After that we continue the gorgeous production but Bowie seems to be dragging in ... read more
Nothing I’ll say will be as deeply moving as these demos
Way to break my heart with the original album then once I’ve gathered the pieces to break it again
This is the Bowie album I’m most familiar with so I’m 100% more biased
being his 14th album Bowie mixes the old glamorous sounds of Aladdin sane with new wave-ness of lodger. Its lyrical qualities about fighting fascism turning a new leaf from station to station. Also he said the f slur and that bumped him up two points.
now this is a completely different vibe but I really love it
david bowie takes experimenting up to the extreme switching up his sounds depending on where he is. It's obviously not a cheap gimmick I believe bowie is truely inspired by other countries and his music is a proud example of that. Like with others in the 'berlin trilogy' this album is split in two but in a less obvious way than the ambient half's of low and "heroes". The first half feels more about his ... read more
possibly the best 3 album run.
david bowie continues with his ambient experimenting while including more rock bangers like "heroes"
crazy to say this is my least favourite of the 3 considering my high rating but I felt as though there was less tracks that stood out to me as absolute favourites and more like building blocks to the overall experience of this album.
listening to my grandparents records pt 5
just want to start off by saying thank you so much for the support on this series this has actually motivated me to spin my records more so thank you
Leonard Cohen who I originally thought was just a poet had released his debut album after getting some attraction from the books he published in the 50s and 60s. At times it does just feel like a spoken word song of his poems as he's not necessarily a vocalist but the instrumentation is nice and the ... read more
I'm so sorry lesley gore to how 'It's my party' has been ruined, still a banger tho
lets just say i liked everything but the last track which was extremely laughably bad with just phil spector talking (possibly my worst nightmare)
this was the year I discovered Vylet Pony and it feels like a good way to end off the year with someone who has now created some of my favourite albums of all time
it's christmas eve as I'm writing this and what a wonderful treat before christmas. I hope everyone is cozy and this season treats you well whatever holiday you're celebrating.
not me fangirling after finding out brian eno worked on this
I really appreciate david bowie as an artist for trying new things and experimenting even late into his career. I mean he knows how to do a genre justice bringing in artists (like brian eno) from the genre to work with him, and it really paid off in this instance because it's a masterpiece.
watched this yesterday, who knew there were so many classics on it. what a fantastic musical
old gays make me so happy
only being 17 when this was recorded this album is a nice jumble of songs with a few iconic hits such as 'sunshine, lollipops and rainbows' and by far my favourite 'you don't own me'. I mean it definitely didn't blow me away and it's very reminiscence of it's time but I surprisingly enjoyed this.
after the soul album that was young americans david went back to the rock but with an atmospheric drone-y twist with reverb on the vocals unlike what i've heard from his pervious work
