I swear i already reviewed this a year ago, where the fuck did the review go?
A good effort but stylistically far removed from what she would go on to create. The first half is pretty great, while the second sees Sabrina slightly painting herself into a corner. Still a short fun record.
Chappells debut is phemininomenal! Such a colorful and touching experience. What a shame that everybody chose to hate on her for the stupidest reasons ever, but oh well, not everyone deserves to be blessed by this albums greatness.
They really come through with a mesmerising sound on No more shall we part. I feel like i'm being lectured by a pastor with the way Nick is sounding here.
Funnily enough, this project, while extremely forward thinking, seems so different compared to the albums that Miles would go on to release later on. Much tamer than anything you’d expect to hear from the guy who made Bitches Brew.
Aside from that, this thing is fascinating; the progression from "So what" to "Flamenco Sketches" is quite the contrast.
This album shines during its most to-the-point-aggressive passages. The tame passages pan out well enough and the rapping isn’t too bad either. Nonetheless LANDMVRKS sometimes still incorporates ideas that just seem cringey, like the "I am the Creature" call out or some of the try-hard rapping. Those are the moments that bring this album down as an overall experience. Still very enjoyable.
I admire the experimentation on this album, it culminates in some of the catchiest material the band ever came through with. The features work very well too, i mean could you imagine anybody else making a beatboxing segment sound this fitting in a metal context?
This could easily be a best of album. Only 3 songs i would consider deep cuts, even though they still do numbers anyway.
Oh how i hate that there are no real names to these songs.
Aside from that, this album is great, Kendrick sounds hungry, which is crazy to say, knowing this is just a bunch of B-Sides. Although most songs are reminiscent of TPAB, the album still has its own kind of sound
This album was a bold move for travis, focusing way more on atmosphere than delivering bangers, but it panned out quite well. As usual the features are great too
Sadly this album plays it way too safe. Yes the songs are catchy, yes they are well produced but where are the hits? Where is the variety? Bruno sadly doesn’t show himself as the hitmaker he has established himself to be on previous records.
Look, i was really afraid that this album was gonna be utter garbage, especially after hearing the first 3 songs, which really aren’t anything to write home about. To my surprise it picks up quickly after that and keeps going pretty consistently from there. Overall positive
I am amazed at how well this sounds for a 1970 recording. Absolutely beautiful songs on here as well as some great upbeat tunes. Nice entry for people who haven’t gotten into Folk yet.
I am not reviewing the version you see on this site, since this one is missing 3 whole songs on the tracklist, I am reviewing the full version (the version that is to be found on streaming, on CDs and as far as I know on Vinyl too).
I am a big fan of the whole "wall of noise" thing they were going for on this album, although I feel like Glenns vocals don’t really benefit from it at certain points.
It’s not the perfect album i would want it to be, given how many great ... read more
Kinda forgot that i didn’t rate it yet, i just assumed that i went through the classics already. Not only is this the start to one of the best bands to ever do it, but it’s also one of the best albums in the genre. Incredible
After a fantastic first full-length debut where the strength was consistency, souly follows it up with a record that focuses more on expanding the style and aesthetic that we were introduced to. Instead of bangers on bangers, we get more atmosphere with the occasional banger such as Bundeswehr or Null Acht Fünfzehn. While not as great as its predecessor, it’s still very good.
Great extension of a great album. I personally prefer this version
This is absolutely beautiful, the opener and closer are both incredible and songs like "If" or "Summer of '68" are highlights i keep coming back to. Very consistent and unexpectedly good.
You might be familiar with the last two tracks, which are phenomenal, but if you can, check out the rest, it’s really great. It might turn out to be one of my comfort albums, somewhat ironically
Here we are now, everybody’s favorite FNM album. I remember putting this thing on shuffle for the first time last year as I was moving some furniture into my new apartment. So now I finally feel comfortable enough with the score so that I can give this a proper rating.
This album is great. There are some songs here and there that just don’t live up to the quality of the rest but it’s not a drastic difference. Some of my favorite songs ever land on this album alone. I still ... read more
