Lana Del Rey - Blue Banisters
57

Lana could've used more help with the songwriting on this album, because a lot of it seems undercooked, it's just not landing well with me and gets dull on 2nd or 3rd listen, same as the hooks. Actually I'll say it, the hooks are garbage OR just not memorable at all. Nevertheless it does not ruin everything, if Lana wasn't a great singer I'd be twisting in my seat from cringe on most songs.

Denzel Curry - TA13OO
75

The album is one of Denzel's most easily enjoyable projects, due to it's infectious hooks and upgrades in his production style. The album is really indecisive of it's sound, it executes it's adventures really well, yet it all fails to come together in a meaningful way with these pop tunes that just feel thrown in, heavily contrasting with the heavy bangers Denzel is known for. It's an album I've listened to many, many times. If this was my first day of hearing this, I'd probably give it an 80+ ... read more

Maxo Kream - WEIGHT OF THE WORLD
70

Maxo's lyrical depth is of a 10 year old call of duty player on xbox 360, he rambles on about 3-4 different topics on the entire album, and yet he fails to say anything of note. Sometimes I catch a snippit and I'm getting into it, but then he destroys the momentum and starts a different topic. However when he manages to remain focused he says the average shit like "boohoo my haters suck, I've got money and bitches", or the occasional gem like "TRIPS" where he tells a ... read more

Coldplay - Music of the Spheres
40

You know how sometimes rough production and mixing can add to the quality of a song? Coldplay can't grasp that concept, that's of course not the only, or even the biggest grudge I have with this album. Coldplay finishes the album with the song that is it's highlight, it feels like 8 filler songs thrown in preceeding the intro to the actual album, that never comes. That 'cosmic' theme just doesn't show up on the rest of the album.

of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
86

Album paints a picture of a man emasculated by his surroundings, feeling stifled by influence of those close to you. Sonically it plays out more like ramblings of someone on the verge of a mental episode, especially in the second half, and I loved a great majority of it all. I love the unpredictable but beautiful vocals, love how unsettling and groovy the package is. I think that "The Past Is A Grotesque Animal" drags quite long, but that's the only MAJOR criticism I have on this ... read more

Westside Gunn - Hitler Wears Hermes 8: Side B
88

The ad libs on this thing started becoming gradually more entertaining after the Jay Electronica verse, BRRRRRRR, BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOOM. Holy fuck I liked every song here, legit every single one. I have a few grievances with this album, but I think that the bulk of it is turbo good. The beats are fucking SLAPPING, or beautiful, generally speaking those that slap are better in my experience. It's not perfect but it has some of my favourite Griselda songs ever.

FINNEAS - Optimist
72

It's not bad, not great, it's just good. The album to me feels like one of the most compelling mixed bags, because the low points here don't come from a lack of skill, but rather failed attempts, attempts at being straightforward and candid. A great deal of pieces here are heartfelt and beautiful, but sometimes it gets sabotaged by some pop cliches, bad autotune or cringe lyrics. Sometimes the songs are catchy, sometimes they're... uh..., like 'Love is pain' which is one of the most painful ... read more

Radiohead - In Rainbows
91

Radiohead Journey (first listen) #7
I found this album to be much more easily enjoyable than the rest, with how straightforward it is with it's sound. There aren't any experimental ventures that break my immersion in these dreamy but groovy instrumentals, I keep swimming throughout the entire album. I loved 9/10 songs on here, because I think that the second half of the 4th track, Arpeggi, is weaker than the first. But still it's not anything that ruins my experience, loved the record.

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
84

Radiohead Journey (first listen) #6
After 2 of their most unsettling albums by far, it seems like Radiohead returned somewhat to alt rock on this album. They make elements from their previous works blend together in a very tasteful way, incorporating the non linnear structures and electronics of Kid A, while sticking to their roots. In conclusion this album is a really good update on what they've done so far.

Injury Reserve - Floss
88

It was great revisitting this album after their latest release, to hear Groggs on this, who sounds great along with the rest. Every track is just addicting to me with it's amazing update on jazz rap. It's the musical equivalent of puffing up your chest and holding your chin up, it has such uplifting energy combined with character to make up for it, that not a lot of albums can rival. Though the second half isn't as enjoyable as the first, I mostly remember the album for it's incredible first 6 ... read more

The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Illusory Walls
71

EDIT: A few songs grew on me a little more, overall bumping up my enjoyment of the album, but still nothing too crazy, most of my critcism's still apply. I still don't like the closer to this album, it's way too stretched (original score: 61). I also updated my original review a little, it doesn't get worse and worse with each listen.

I really think this album sounds like overdramatic anime songs, in fact if someone just played this without me knowing what album it is prior, my guess would be ... read more

James Blake - Friends That Break Your Heart
78

Instrumentals are minimalistic, almost skeletal, but that when combined with the beautiful vocals creates an intimate space, that James utilizes really well. Though I wish we got more insight into his emotions, it's still tight with emotion from beggining to end. It's like "why are you sad?" and the answer this album gives is so indirect you still don't really know the exact reason. Even my least favourite songs are still good, which makes for a consistent listening experience.

Don Toliver - Life of a DON
63

It's so weird that Travis Scott keeps doing features for artists that blatantly copy him. This album has good hooks and vocals that I very much like, though some instrumentals just aren't as intresting. Don keeps recycling some trap stereotypes, but it's not like he's copy pasting Travis Scott or Migos' instrumentals. I just think that they could've been much more than they ended up as. Instead Don just complacently goes with the path of lesser resistance, when he had blueprints for something ... read more

파란노을 [Parannoul] - To See the Next Part of the Dream
60

I can't entirely get behind this project because 1. Parannoul is really not a good vocalist 2. I think he knows it and he purposefully mixed himself very low and 3. mixing is so rough it gives me a migraine, too rough. The lead vocal on half the songs has this weird metalic piercing echo, i think it's reverb, as if he threw a fucking speaker into the pool and then recorded the audio from it. I'm pretty sure it's because of too many effects on his voice, and poor mixing. It really just gives me ... read more

Denzel Curry - Imperial
80

This album is a bit messed up, not consistent when it comes to instrumental quality, but as a whole it still paints a consistent picture. That picture is a story about injustice against African Americans in the US, and the situation which many of them find themselves in. Denzel's narrative isn't really nuanced or complicated, but it has enough to be engaging, and not boring when combined with his incredible delivery.

Denzel Curry & Kenny Beats - UNLOCKED
85

No matter how many times I listen to any song on here it never bores me, in fact every time I feel like I just got an adrenaline shot in my ass. I honestly have nothing to throw on this album, but praise. The ONLY bad thing I can say is that it's REALLY fucking short, like srsly, 18 minutes? I really wish it was a little longer, not even full LP length, but 18 minutes feels short even for an EP.

Radiohead - Amnesiac
81

Radiohead Journey (first listen) #5
I honestly found this album (on most songs) to be more disturbing and dark than Kid A, and honestly I'm loving it. It's sinister and unsettling, and not as long winded as some songs off Kid A. The only thing I can criticise it for, is that it didn't go further with experimentation, I wish every song was as intresting as tracks 1, 3, and 11.

Radiohead - Kid A
83

Radiohead Journey (first listen) #4
This one is more inconsistent, I think that as a landscape album it kind of fails due to some songs just not being as exciting/intriguing as others. There isn't a song that I dislike, but these long winded instrumentals aren't doing this album justice, when compared to something like Idioteque. I thought that some songs here dragged to a degree, but not unbearably, it's still a very good album.

Radiohead - OK Computer
94

Radiohead Journey (first listen) #3
The way it's distorted and at times hypnotic really enhances the experience for me, makes it more unique than their 2 previous albums. Instrumentals feel more dense and layered, everything comes together in a more nuanced way. Still didn't blow my mind, but I'm starting to see a pattern of steady improvement on their 3rd album, loving it.

EDIT: It grew on me even more with consecutive listens, shit bangs OMG.

Radiohead - The Bends
73

Radiohead Journey (first time) #2
Much more consistent than their last album. I enjoyed it quite a lot from start to finish, deffinetly much more (as an entire experience) than their debut. Listening to it today it's not all that exciting, doesn't really blow my mind. Still a very enjoyable record.
