Radiohead - Pablo Honey

Radiohead Journey #1 (first time)
I found this album to not really be anything intresting, rather just a bunch of good tracks mixed with the more alt rock slow burners, which are my least favourite on here. It still has more highlights than low points, but I see this as a mixed bag. A creatively undefined start, and I know from their reputation, a start to one the best rock bands of the 2000s

The Strokes - The New Abnormal
84

This album shows what kids/teenager perceive to be abnormal. With very straightforward lyricism that really does feel like coming from a younger person. It's not poetic or complex, but it all ammounts to being complicated when inspected at large, just like real life. Sonically I find the record to be addicting even on multiple listens, I don't think it's flawless, but very entertaining and enjoyable from front to back.

Brandi Carlile - In These Silent Days
69

The songwriting, structuring and instrumentation doesn't reach any more depth than if Regina Spektor decided to make bland country music. The piano or an acoustic guitar leads almost all songs on here. I did enjoy the experience, but I can't help but notice that this album really isn't anything too special, there isn't a single point where the album impresses, or suprises me.

Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga - Love for Sale
51

This is a literal time machine to early 60s Jazz You'd hear at some cafe. That's all this album is, it's not boring or anything, it's just absolutely nothing new. If I'm in the mood for such a brand of jazz, there are better albums from the 20th century. This album doesn't offer anything original to warrant consecutive listens. It's just one of these albums You throw onto a playlist with other vocal jazz albums to play when You're in the mood.

Tirzah - Colourgrade
52

The mixes on this album are garbage. The production is rough but I don't get the feeling like it was done on purpose, because these things stand out too much. I like the vocal performances, and the minimalistic instrumentation really empower them, but the songs either drag, or are intolerable production-wise to me. I think this album sounds like some art student's project, but they only had 2-4 days to prepare the instrumentals. It's 60/40 with songs I hate and love, but I can appreciate the ... read more

Goodbye Honolulu - Goodbye Honolulu

The album is a statement of freedom, and a message of empowerment, I can respect that. The hooks are on point, there isn't anything bad in terms of production or recording quality that I detected. BUT, On consecutive listens some of the less adventurous tracks get straight boring, especially with how they're structured. Nevertheless this album has a little more highlights than low points for me, though I think that "Make You Mine" is one of the most vommit worthy sensual ballads I've ... read more

Migos - Culture

I usually shit on trap rap albums, but I do think that you can do it right. This album is one of the prime examples of that. This album simply radiates with energy, the catchy hooks, the instrumentals that feel more dense than they actually are thanks to good vocals and ad libs, well executed melodies and clean autotune. It falls apart in the second leg, but overall I enjoyed the record.

Pond - 9
83

I love how funky it all sounds, I am consistently enjoying every song from start to finish. The only low point is Czech Locomotive, where I think it takes too long to blow up, and the end goes on for too long. This album is for the most part really uptight and layered which makes for a very engaging listen, even on the more mellow songs. Time flies like crazy when I listen to this album, and the only song I don't enjoy as much is Czech Locomotive, and maybe Gold cup a little.

Mixed bag between good hooks with textured instrumentation, and skeletal generic trap rap instrumentals, I'm not crazy about it. Ride For You is easily my favourite off this album. He tries to tackle the topic of "i'm rich, but Im still not happy!!!", but that is also a mixed bag, sometimes the messaging lands well, or sometimes we get such nonsensical lines it reminds me of Lil Wayne.

Regina Spektor - Remember Us to Life
81

One of my favourite albums lead mostly by piano chords, an extremely easy to enjoy and pleasant listen. Regina perfects piano balladry in a beautiful and dramatic album, with delightful hooks, pretty instrumentation and great vocals. It doesn't tell a cohesive story, rather portrays how we change over time, and that longing for the past when we catch ourselves reminiscing.

JPEGMAFIA - Veteran
74

JPEGMAFIA comes through with one of the most creative experimental hip hop albums, that also happens to be quite enjoyable. Though I'm not really sure of the narrative direction of the album, because while he presents incredible production, he doesn't really offer much in terms of compelling lyrics, though with an addictive delivery, and full of quite funny one-liners.

There are cuts on the album that I can't enjoy no matter how many times I listen to it, like Rock N Roll Is Dead, Rainbow ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
90

Incredible album, the most cohesive album Kendrick has put out. It tells a story of a young Kendrick Lamar growing up in Compton. It is a story of violence, distrust, loyalty and perserverance, as well as trying to find self worth. Kendrick creates tension with his lyrics over these beautiful instrumentals, and tells us of his youth, or perhaps many Kendricks.

Lil Wayne & Rich The Kid - Trust Fund Babies
25

In my review process the first step is going through the album and rating every track individually, and I gave all 3 beggining tracks a 0/10, and "Admit It" a 1/10. I legit think they're intolerable, from production choices to terrible hooks and both of them mumbling with Drake's CLB energy. The rest is a mixed bag, skipping over the uninspired lyrics, the energy and hooks are either there, or not, while being slightly tilted to the 'not' for me.

Nicolás Jaar - Cenizas
74

It's all so adventurous, spacy and unpredictable, it feels like I'm listening into the vast expanse of space. Only catching glimpses of like radio signals coming from far away, as if aliens are trying to communicate with me. It's a quite distinct experience, I just find this album to invoke anxiety within me. I don't really know how to feel, and that in itself is making me uneasy. I think that it could've been executed better, as there are better and worse tracks on here.

Kendrick Lamar - Section.80
80

Kendrick here obv attempted to say thought provoking things, on topics rehashed in hip hop for decades. Da man himself succeeds in making me re-think some issues, and sometimes all I can say is: "yeah, I know, this is the sad reality". The ideas aren't as well crafted here as they become on his later records. The sound here is also not that exciting, with very simple jazzy instrumentals, and often structured really predictably. That isn't that much of an issue tho, because the hooks ... read more

Yo, yo caterpillar's the miller,
Drake's bars are all just filler, (yah)
Real sars-covid, I dove it,

Boned Yo Mama on the beach,
She a peach, neat, take my seed,

Oliver Tree & Little Big - Welcome To The Internet

After he released Ugly Is Beautiful i was hoping he'd continue to release music, because I saw potential in that LP, so i was dissapointed when he announced he's retiring. After this I hope he'll actually retire, holy fuck. The messaging isn't bad, it's just delivered in such an uncreative way that it makes me vommit. The musical package it comes in is kinda vibe-worthy, but it gets progressively worse and more intolerable with each listen. It sound so soulless and fucking dead. It almost ... read more

Westside Gunn - Hitler Wears Hermes 8: Sincerely Adolf

A kind of fun, and enjoyable jazz rap album with quite fresh production. I don't have a paragraph to write about this album because it doesn't warrant one, with how much content we get.

EDIT: I began enjoying it less after listening to side B

Unown - Redukqs
58

The album isn't well described by the cover, it's warped, distorted and unclear only at points. I think that the album really underdelivers on that aesthetic. What we get is a mixed bag with groove tracks, two horrendous arena rock-hip hop fusions?, and instrumental neo-psychedelic cuts. It's not like the album blends all these genres, it's rather a bag containing all of them, but songs carry those genres independently from one another. It's just kinda a head-scratcher. I liked the instrumental ... read more
