This album feels and is kind of a placeholder for finding his sound as he I guess takes music more seriously and it's actually pretty good. It's no IDMTHY or Scrapyard but you definitely see the glimpses of the potential he had to create those 2 great projects. The thing that holds this back is that some tracks still sounds like he isn't completely out of the Youtube rap era.
This just wasn't for me. I liked the intro and I thought because of that that the album as a whole would be enjoyable for me, but I was wrong. What followed that was a bit of a shit show for me tbh. The way a lot of it sounded was just too extreme for me and not something I really vibed with. The ambient track wasn't too bad either and then I really loved "Immaterial" and I'm not lying when I'm saying that that song nearly made me forget about how bad the last 20 minutes was and that ... read more
Probably would have went harder if I didn't listen to the deluxe tracks but even with them, this is as a whole is really good and I loved the beat selection on a lot of the songs.
One of the best rap albums I have heard honestly. All amazing songs from front to end and it's all is very well constructed and I loved it.
Fade Into You is quite clearly the best on this album and everything following that song didn't grab me the same way even though there was a lot of good ones.
I don't have a problem with the way the album sounds or anything but the part where I have a issue with this is when it's made as a 90 minute 25 track project. It suffers from not being that consistent and while being very good at times, it is also at times really boring and at the end of the day it didn't feel any different listening to this than any other bloated project in modern day rap.
Pretty good for being the first thing he put out. I think that A$AP Rocky shines by himself a lot on this mixtape and I think that all the tracks with features except for the ScHoolboy Q one are the lowpoints on this.
I have never been a person who really likes ambient music a lot and this album didn't really do anything to change that for me. The only song I really liked the melody of and vibed with was Ageispolis. I think the problem I had with this is that it sounded too electronic in a way. Maybe it's something I will grow to appriciate in the future but at this point in time it isn't really for me.
Drain Gang + Yung Lean #4
I'm surprised by how much I liked this. All the way through it's amazing and there is no bad song. Honestly one of the best Drain Gang projects I have heard,
Drain Gang + Yung Lean #3
This is one of three drain gang releases I had heard before and relistening I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. I have always had it on a high ranking but at the same time always had a problem listening to the songs of this individually as they in a way are kind of bad. That made this listen kinda interesting as I could see if I actually enjoyed it and I did. I think that when listening to this from beginning to end it clicks for me and it makes sense ... read more
Drain Gang + Yung Lean #1
A really good release for being the kinda first thing that was put out from any of them individually. There are some songs that are way too cloudy or weird sounding in my opinion and that's what's holding me back from giving this a higher score based on this first listen. Otherwise I do get the charm that these boys have and this album is a good way to get me excited for listening to their later releases.
The tracks are either really mediocre or bangers on here and there is no middle ground. Most of them are bangers though and I think the feature list on this album is insane.
I don't have any big complaints for this album, the only one is the whole minute silence on the last track but otherwise it was great. All tracks were quality and there wasn't a single one I didn't like except the last one.
This album for me felt different than what she usually has put out before this and at moments it sounded really great but then there were also moments that I didn't like that much at all. Overall I enjoyed it as I felt there were more positive parts than negative.
I didn't like his debut but with this album I get the Elliott Smith hype. It's really sad but at the same time the melodies very beautiful and it all sounds amazing.
A bit weaker than the later albums by Nirvana and the production and the songs which has kinda reptetitive lyrics put me off this at first and there were a lot of tracks here that I wasn't a big fan of. Towards the end though I think it got better and just because they closed the album with a couple of great tracks it boosted my rating of this a bit.
