As strictly a fan of Court, I heard rumblings that 'Red' matched it in quality. Up until listening, though, I didn't believe this could be true.
But oh man, it is absolutely up there.
holy cow the best jazz album ive listened to so far in my delve into the genre
i will always think of you is so fucking good
my bias is that i also saw them live this summer (not here) but they are really good live performers
hell yeah we get more good posthumous juice and 2019 cordae no complaints
this album feels like peeping into a window of the human experience that you aren't supposed to.
i won't be giving this a score, i don't think that an album that was originally a series of recordings meant to be private should be rated, especially when it's from such a vulnerable place. these are some of the most raw emotions i've ever observed.
i am shamelessly a moonchild apologist. you call it noodling and i call it the soothing calm before the storm. this is the quintessential prog-rock record.
gonna be my guilty pleasure man. i find the message on "it cant be" pretty corny, and macklemore syndrome is kinda glaring on "gang gang gang" as well as a few other tracks, but overall just a pretty decent soul inspired rap record
isn't breaking any new ground but at 24 minutes it's just a fun and enjoyable project
also jack is so fine
like, its good, don't get me wrong. i just don't understand how the album with my FAVOURITE song of all time (everlong) can be so bleh outside of it
feels super messy but it is b-sides so that isnt even a criticism
Edit: The singing grew on me and this is in my top 3 favourite projects of the year. 76 > 85
Clique bro what on earth happened in January.
Okay guys, admittedly I am a Clique fan. Dude saved me from quarantine depression in 2020, and I do love his content. However, I think this review is pretty clear of bias and pretty objective.
Man, Clique reminds me a lot of a young J. Cole from the flows/lyricism to the beat selection/production to the admittedly pretty underwhelming singing. The ... read more
Gorillaz delivers a really fun pop record to help get me through 2023. With songs ranging from dancepop to Latin to somehow indie-folk and hyperpop in the same song?? (I'm looking at you Skinny Ape), this project doesn't really have a dull moment for me.
'Baby Queen' is kind of dull to be honest, but this tracklist went 9/10 - that's the only skip. 'Silent Running' elicits such a strong summery nostalgia feeling for me, and the aforementioned 'Skinny Ape' is an absolute blast with funny ... read more
This is gonna maybe sound like an insult depending on who you are, but this stuff is like Rocket League menu music, in the best way possible. Really fun electronic music.
My two biggest issues with this album are that a few of the choruses, namely on ‘RATATA’ and ‘Rumble’, and that some of the bigger-name, more exciting features like Missy Elliott and Swae Lee are pretty underwhelming. The latter’s voice doesn’t mesh with the track he was on at all.
But ... read more
despite what i see as a pretty big dip in quality from consistently 9/10 songs for most of the LP to consistently 7/10 songs in the last 3 tracks, this is still a really good album.
i was already predisposed to give this project a higher score, given that i love this genre so much, but man they crushed it. the instrumentals, especially the basslines were consistently so freaking enjoyable, and the vocals are so charming, no matter who's singing (p.s i've always loved multiple talented singers ... read more
