sadly they're weakest effort. the production is over-saturated, the songs are nearly all uninspired. some cool highs, like Spit Shine and Asking For A Friend, but as a whole this was rough... it's so sad to see Dave and the gang wandering around musically like this.
Flabbergasted rn. I've been going through Haim's discography for the first time during the week, and I surely did not expect anything like this album. They have made a 180 turn here, with a new experimental approach towards production. The album is very "grainy" sounding, with a lot of distortion and wacky sound editing going on. alt-j were recommended to me by a girl whose favorite film was Amelie because "it represented her". This scared me when I first listened to them, but An Awesome Wave ended up being an amazing musical experience This album felt much more akin' to the Amelie-lovers crowd, in that it's stylistically very interesting, but ultimately kinda dull on the inside. Some tracks are still pretty cool tho, and Get Better hurt me a lot.
