Garbage's self-titled debut has all the trappings of alternative rock -- off-kilter arrangements, occasional bursts of noise, a female singer with a thin, airy voice -- but it comes off as pop, thanks to the glossy production courtesy of drummer Butch Vig.

With their menacing sexuality, sonic playfulness, inventive guitar treatments, and cool vocals by Shirley Manson, Garbage comes off like a punkier, less cerebral Golden Palominos.

'Garbage' will make you feel like you've heard something new, fresh and different.

Like so much fun and important rock & roll, it's the product of brilliant misunderstandings.

Prepare to obsess on the aural intersection of a soulless Courtney Love and a Manchester School of Bo Diddley drum machine beat - or wait to enjoy Garbage one trifling single at a time.

This site needs more estrogen. Seriously, it’s a goddamn sausage party on here.

Funny Quip™ out of the way, I’ve never exactly been the most in touch with my own femininity. I don’t just say that from an angsty, “wow I fucking hate my period,” standpoint, but more from a, “I’ve never fit the stereotypes associated with my gender/sexuality and thus it has caused severe frustration in my life,” kind. When I was younger I was always too loud ... read more

That Shirley Manson could pull off the rock chick style in a similar way to Debbie Harry is maybe the truth behind this crossover appeal, you can't beat a girl who looks great in a leather jacket. Strangely, just the fact Butch Vig had produced ... read more

this might be a hot take but I found this album pretty boring, like it had good songs but I was just so bored while listening to this, all the songs on this album just sound the same, there's really not much I can say about this record other than its boring but solid, my favorite song was either vow or milk, overall its not a bad debut, but its just a little lacking.
