(this review is ONLY THE BONUS TRACKS)
The Great War - 8 (somehow both mellow and infectious. really nice)
Bigger Than The Whole Sky - 7.5 (is this a typical Taylor Swift heartbreak ballad? yes. is it still good? also yes)
Paris - 5 (nah)
High Infidelity - 9 (oh yessssss!!)
Glitch - 6.5 (interesting concept but didn’t turn out to be anything special)
Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve - 7 (dragged a bit but otherwise a banger)
Dear Reader - 7 (lyrics carry)
(edit: Changed my mind on Maroon, good song)
This is another solid album in Taylor’s discography, one that I think falls a bit short of the heights reached by albums such as Red, Folklore and Evermore but Midnights still has its place.
With the somewhat exception of Maroon, I thought the album got off to a very strong start in the first 5 songs. Lavender Haze is still a really great opener, I really love the atmosphere of it and the small touches such as the backing vocals throughout. ... read more
Clairo’s immaculate vibe era.
This album is full of sentimental songs to vibe to. They are tracks featuring some real messages mixed with airy instrumentals that pull you in straight away. Whilst I do love some of the lyrics on this album (especially on Alewife), the real winners here are the sweeping melodies and beautiful production. Songs like North and Softly are so great to just turn on and smile to, Sofia is hands down one of the cutest songs of the century and Bags will forever ... read more
repetitive but some awesome production and memorable lyrics. short and sweet. i'm a fan
Pink Venom - 5 (tolerable, interesting production but still boring)
Shut Down - 4 (this isn’t good. too much tongue-in-cheek cringe stuff and not enough good vocals or production to save it. at least it’s sorta catchy though)
Typa Girl - 4 (that melody in the intro had some potential, only time you hear it again is in the pre-chorus. holy crap the rest of this song is boring. it should be thankful that 20 good seconds saved it from being even worse)
Yeah Yeah Yeah - 7 (alright, ... read more
EDIT: 91 -> 100
Yes, I’m comfortable with this score. When you have spent almost 20000 minutes with one album you can’t really justify giving it lower than 100, can you? Sure it’s not totally perfect, I can still comfortably pick a least favourite track here (Boyfriends), but in terms of how I view and enjoy albums this is realistically about as close to perfect as possible.
I know I’m definitely an outlier on this site in that almost nobody here sees this album the ... read more
First impressions review:
Minor Feelings - 8.5 (really love the vocal harmonies in the second half and the straight up lyrics. good intro)
Hold The Girl - 9 (beautifully pleasant while somehow also haunting in a way, also that outro CARRIESSSSS)
This Hell - 7 (very typical department store pop but I don’t have much against that, this is still good)
Catch Me In The Air - 7.5 (seems like she really is going for the 2010 pop star sound. have to admit I dig the soaring melodies ... read more
Enjoyed it despite the amount of corny and stupid stuff in there. Stepdad and Marsh are the two biggest examples of the corny and stupid stuff. Extremely bad wordplay and silly production.
A lot more of the pop-style hooks also didn’t catch my attention much (odd considering they usually do). No Regrets I feel had a lot more potential than what we got and Lock It Up had some energy but ultimately didn’t sound all that captivating. On the other side of this spectrum, songs like In ... read more
chaotic review for a chaotic album
I didn’t know your face was the front of shop or the real shop front, that was a surprise in Faceshopping. Especially considering the pure seduction of Ponyboy. Seemed like something lower down would be the front of shop. With a lot of seduction felt in this album, however, there’s also pure… gender euphoria?
So many dreamy sequences of validation take place in here. This album is an intense grounding of glitch pop and nightclub atmosphere ... read more
TV - 8.5 (a little slow in the verses but still amazing, so many great comments made and a beautiful soft melody. love the ending with the choir in the background too)
The 30th - 10 (this is phenomenal!! incredible vocals and lyrics as well as back beautifully stripped back, it makes it sound so raw and powerful. also that bridge is a spiritual experience. sooooo good)
first impressions:
Galaxy - N/A (fine intro)
Raydar - 7.5 (pretty banging last verse and has some great moments)
Dance Now - 7 (solid bop, monster effects in the background are weird but do add to the fun)
Crack Sandwich - 7 (really good start, then felt like it was dragging a bit but some good flow saved it)
Can’t Punk Me - 8 (this slaps!! awesome bassline and wordplay)
Surround Sound - 8 (great 21 Savage verse, good vibes and good beat switch)
Kody Blu 31 - 7.5 (swang on, swang ... read more
That key switch is too good to avoid giving this a really high score. Breathtaking outro
EDIT: 85 -> 91
rest of the song grew on me too. it’s really well crafted and the lyrics are great. great song
it’s been a year since this album came out. what would I do without it?
I don’t know how to describe some of the masterpieces on here other than that you’re swept away into another planet. Take the ‘ooohhhh’ of Harbor for example. How could something possibly be so beautiful? and how did Claire tie this in to a bittersweet song so perfectly?
these sweeping melodies are so gorgeous and pull you in only for the lyrics to pull you in even further. Bambi is a perfect ... read more

if your biggest flex is being white you’ve got a serious problem bestie
I got this wrong I won’t lie. I always liked this album but I never went deep enough into it I don’t think. These songs have so much depth both lyrically and sonically, I used to think the songs on this album blended together but they really don’t. I need vibes to help me really appreciate storytelling in songs and the vibes grew on me so much that I was able to appreciate the storytelling in this album so much more.
Favourite Songs (quite a few but these 2 are the truly ... read more
