EDIT: 87 -> 92
I can’t stop coming back to the highlights here. There is so much fire on this album.
Original Review:
An incredible aspect of Boygenius’ music that I haven’t seen discussed much is how beautifully they harmonise with each other. It’s absolutely heavenly to listen to. So indescribably beautiful.
12 tracks filled with their harmonies? I will never complain about that. The harmonies alone cement Emily I’m Sorry as a contender for my favourite ... read more
(edit: 60 -> 70. for some reason sounded really nice on second listen. actually like this song ngl)
It’s alright. Inoffensive and not particularly annoying. just lacks a bit of a spark at times. This is not something I’d hate to hear on the radio or in a retail store
Had to see if this is as bad as everyone says. Commercial music can sometimes still be pleasant to listen to. Some radio friendly songs are bangers. But there’s nothing really quality to be found here.
I guess the upside is that this album does start off listenable. The first few tracks are produced so that something nice is given to the ear at least. However, this ends up not really being a great compliment. Something Just Like This (which I’ve never really enjoyed at all on the ... read more
need to talk about the way Phoebe, Julien and Lucy all harmonise with each other. HOW DOES IT SOUND SOOOO GOOD EVERY TIME????
also these lyrics are incredible, this is just a straight up incredible song
If user padgoose wants happy music they can go listen to the chainsmokers (this is a joke btw. no hate towards anyone regardless of your opinion on the album)
That being said this is fantastic. Every song is so intimate, filled with emotional lyrics and gorgeous melodies. You can call it a typical indie sad girl project, but rarely ever will you find one of those projects that’s as consistent and genuine as this one.
This album is 18 songs long. A fair few tracks really stood out on first listen, I already knew this was really good. And then I watched as I rapidly warmed up to almost every remaining track too. For an album to be this long and this consistently good is something pretty special.
Beach House achieve it with all of their signature traits, plus many new experiments and ideas. Two songs on this album especially stand out as all-time great Beach House tracks: Superstar and New ... read more
edit: 93 -> 100 (this hits even harder with every listen. absolutely fantastic. perfect score)
listening to this at 12:36am after it just came out in your country >>>>
This is potentially Gracie’s best vocal performance in any of her songs so far, simply because her singing perfectly suits the lyrics. You can hear everything in her voice. Such a beautiful song. So simple yet evokes so many emotions. Perfectly stripped back and raw. This is brilliant.
I love Maisie’s music and have always appreciated her blunt and pretty sharp lyrics, as well as the moods she creates with her melodies, vocals and the way her songs are produced. For most Maisie fans this song continues emphasising those strengths of hers. Which is why it’s confusing me that I’m really not loving this one?
Production is still pretty on point and usually if that’s the case I can look past poor lyrics and still enjoy it. But here the lyrics are really ... read more
There’s just something about Beach House’s ability to create a mood and take you away. This song is 6 minutes long but it feels so much shorter, it just encapsulates you.
Everything about this from the beautiful lyrics, the deep vocals, the ethereal synth passages the song builds on, it’s just brilliant. So lethally beautiful. One of the best songs of 2022.
This is so beautiful. Boygenius harmonies are just unmatched, as are these lyrics. All three of the teasers have me so excited for the album but this one is the one that really blew me away.
Going back to this in anticipation of a new Maisie album this year. This one was a really cool debut that showcased a lot of her talents and left me with a lot of great songs to come back to.
There’s a lot to like here. The songwriting circles through a lot of bitter young heartbreak themes which could get boring very quickly, but the abundance of humour and smart comments in these lyrics keeps it fresh. A lot of these songs really make me laugh and make me wonder what specific ... read more
Rating might even go up. On first listen this is pretty awesome. Love how catchy this is and the production is great. The little hits of vocal effects throughout are really nice and the slightly toned-down hyperpop beat suits her singing so well. Lyrics depict her in a situation where she has let something go by her own choice (possibly a person) and can’t seem to move on like she expected as she didn’t realise what she had until it was gone. You can hear that feeling of regret in ... read more

First Impressions Review:
Married in Mount Airy - 8.5 (wow this is really beautiful! nice simple and captivating lyrics, beautiful dreamy production to match and love the singing over the top)
Gold Satin Dreamer - 8 (similar to the first track, very nice dreamy song. really like the vocals on both of these opening tracks)
Dogwood - 8.5 (short but sweet. a lot of desperation in the lyrics, a beautiful yet haunting melody to accompany it)
Runnin’ free - 7 (a little less captivating ... read more
Don’t know anything about this artist but this is a pleasant listen. The album weaves through some very nice plucky songs, as well as more dreamy sections through the title tracks. Projects like this serve as a nice reminder that music doesn’t have to be made to be torn up and analysed, it can just be there to provide some calming enjoyment.
Favourite Tracks: Mimicry, Regicide/Edible Art
Least Favourite Tracks: None
Most overrated song of 2022.
The female vocal melody throughout the track is pretty nice and there’s a few nice conscious lyrics here and there. But what else does it have?
Denzel’s flow is boring, it isn’t especially pleasing to hear at all. It doesn’t switch up or become more interesting, you listen to the same thing for nearly 5 minutes. The ‘beat switch’ that everyone hypes up so much is super underwhelming, all that happens is a background trap ... read more
First Impressions Review
SOS - 7
Decent start, like the sample. Works as an intro
Kill Bill - 8.5
Woah, really really like this! Love this production and that chorus is so catchy.
Seek & Destroy - 6.5
Feels like it’s building up to nothing, the chorus falls a little flat. Like everything else, the verses are nice and the outro finishes it off strong
Low - 6.5
A switch-up, goes to a darker and more sexual side of things. Comes off alright. Nothing really special but at least it ... read more
If Diane Young won’t change your mind, Hannah Hunt will Worship You and hold you in your Everlasting Arms away from all the Unbelievers. But if you lie to her she will Step away from you, bend her Finger Back and go to date Hudson instead. She is a Young Lion and will ride away on her Obvious Bicycle. All you’ll get from her in a text message is “Ya Hey”, nothing else. So Don’t Lie to her.
(i’m sorry)
In all seriousness, check out this album. The depth of ... read more
