BROCKHAMPTON - IF YOU PRAY RIGHT
63

I feel like the first part of the song is promising. I think the tuba was a cool part of the song even though it probably could’ve gone a bit farther. Beat was decent. Second half of the song is just really boring. I’m really worried about how the new record will turn out now.

TOOL - Fear Inoculum
77

“Fear Inocolum” is an interesting track. It’s reminiscent of some of their older sounds (I mean, it is Tool after all). It slowly builds up and repeatedly reaches a climax throughout the song as Maynard’s vocals echo alongside the heavy riffs and Carey’s drumming. I think I had higher expectations though considering this is the title-track of the album, but it’s overall a good song. I just feel like it doesn’t particularly stand out in comparison to ... read more

The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge
NR

Not only is the production of this album so ahead of its time, but the entire atmosphere of this post-punk masterpiece is really one of a kind. It's somber yet clearly fervent with emotion and introspective lyrics. The varied sounds on this album make for an album that is diverse in the emotions it conveys while staying engaging throughout. From more acoustic-driven melodies to the cold and passionate vocals and the fading riffs, "Script of the Bridge" is a truly fantastic post-punk ... read more

浅川マキ [Maki Asakawa] - Maki Asakawa
93

This compilation album consists of some of Maki Asakawa's finest material. It's essentially a package of comforting vocal jazz with a fair amount of diversity in sound and emotion: a warm and welcoming listen despite the language barrier. This album's quality derives heavily from Maki's unique voice that in some respects reminds me of Nico's vocals. It has a rough edge to it that still sounds wonderful and adds a lot to her music's distinct sound.

Fishmans - 宇宙 日本 世田谷 [Uchu Nippon Setagaya]

I think at this point this has now become one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s just so beautiful.

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
85

The first two tracks are amazing. They’re addicting and I always revisit them. Epitaph has grown on me. Moonchild is a promising song—I get the chorus caught in my head a lot—that suffers from unnecessary filler moments that do nothing for the song after the first two or so minutes in the beginning. There are also other notable bloated moments in the album that make some otherwise perfect songs a bit less enjoyable as a whole. However, some of the atmospheres on this album are ... read more

Beach House - Teen Dream
63

Unpopular opinion alert!

I think this album has a lot of gorgeous tunes and Victoria Legrand’s beautifully unique voice, but doesn’t manage to encapsulate me as well as some of their other releases. It just sounds boring to me as a whole. The songs can sometimes end up too repetitive in instrumentation, atmosphere, production, and progression. I feel like its atmosphere is more focused on the texture of the sounds, rather than the dreamy overall atmosphere. That doesn’t ... read more

Boris - あくまのうた [Akuma no uta]
87

I just revisit this album a lot. It has a great combination of all the different things that makes Boris who they are. It has its fair share of upfront headbangers like Ibitsu and Furi, with more droney stoner metal tracks in the mix as well. The title track is also really damn good.

Drake - Take Care
53

Never liked Drake and likely never will.

Fela Kuti & Africa 70 - Zombie
95

It’s just such a fun album!

OutKast - Aquemini
87

There are a fair amount of genuinely catchy songs on this album with intriguing sounds, great rapping, and nice beats. The production may not be amazing and the skits can make it drag a bit at times, but I don’t think there’s one song on here I find particularly boring or disinteresting.

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Piñata
85

Insanely high replayability value.

Slint - Spiderland
67

I just think the “creepiness” of this album feels forced. It just feels really fake to me and as a result this album doesn’t really do much for me. It also fails to keep me engaged all the way through because of how repetitive the tracks end up sounding. Some of the riffs and instrumentals bring it up a fair amount.

My biggest flaw with this album would be the pointless spoken word interludes which don’t really do anything for me. Otherwise, this album is actually amazingly fun to listen to. It’s raw, psychedelic, hypnotic, and has a unique edge to it for its well-executed styles of sound. It’s more than your typical space rock. It goes hard.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
77

Unpopular opinion but I find F#A# better. I find the instrumentals in that album more engaging overall and it just feels darker to me. Although both albums have their bloated moments, I find this album to have more and some parts just fail to catch my attention.

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
100

I just love Bob Dylan. Whenever I listen to his music, I feel at ease. This album may not be musically grand or anything like that, but it’s human and arguably Bob Dylan’s greatest effort.

Boris - Heavy Rocks
75

It has its bangers, but it’s also fairly inconsistent.

Melvins - Houdini
63

I’d rather just listen to Boris.

Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood
NR

I can feel my body disintegrating.

My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade

I will never understand why the average rating for this album is so high on this website.

On exception's review of Jai Paul - Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)
"I think he just released this compilation of unfinished material for the fuck of it and considering the whole context around it he probably just wants to forget about it and move on to something else considering how much it impacted his mental health and personal life in the years following its leak. I completely respect his decisions to do so & imo he deserves the $. All his effort essentially went down the drain years before—he deserves something for it, even if people may not like it. "
